I was contacted by Auffenberg Hyundai in OFallon IL in October of 2024 to schedule recall work. On 10/23/24, the car was dropped off in working condition to the dealership for that recall (engine software update). The day after the vehicle was returned, the check engine light came on and the vehicle went into "limp mode". I returned it to the dealership 10/24/24. They changed the knock sensor and I picked it back up on [XXX]. On the same date, the check engine light came on and vehicle went back into "limp mode". Car was returned to dealership 10/28/24, due to the issue being after hours and on a weekend. They tested it and reset software. I did not get vehicle back until 1/3/25. On [XXX], the check engine light came on again and vehicle went into "limp mode". Car was returned to the dealership and now it is 3/17/25 and I still have no resolution. The vehicle is unsafe to drive because in "limp mode" you cannot go above a certain RPM level. Pulling out into traffic is dangerous when your vehicle just will not accelerate. If this were to happen on the interstate, then it could be catastrophic. The dealership has been able to reproduce this issue, but offers no fix as they state that they are being limited by corporate Hyundai. A corporate claim was made but Hyundai is unwilling to fix an issue they caused. In essence, the recall broke my vehicle and corporate Hyundai has decided to do nothing. Note: All records for repairs and dealership/corporate communications are with Auffenberg Hyundai, 1050 Berg Blvd, Ofallon IL 62269; phone 618-622-9001; contact is John Koch. The contact owned a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that as his daughter was driving at 20 MPH on the highway, she depressed the brake pedal, the brakes failed to respond, and the vehicle started to smoke from the engine and into the cabin. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's daughter then tried to depress the brake pedal again, and the contact's daughter then jumped out of the vehicle on the ramp. The vehicle was coming down on the intersection unoccupied, engulfed in smoke, initially hitting a stop sign and then another unknown sign and sequentially coming to a stop. The contact then saw the vehicle at the hillside engulfed with fire and smoke and tried to break a window, however, the contact heard his daughter and stopped. The Fire Department and Police Department were on scene and extinguished the remaining of the fire and the hillside. The origin of the fire was on the engine. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was consumed by the fire and the remainder were taken to Lenzi Automotive. The contact was the only occupant in the vehicle and sustained scrapes and bruises to her elbow, finger, right thigh, buttocks, and back rib that require medical attention. The failure mileage was approximately 77,200.

Vehicle would not shift when accelerating on gas pedal while driving, rpm’s went up to 5,000. Had the car towed to closest dealership and they haven’t looked at it. They stated they are unable to assist me with a rental car. I am home alone with 2 children and cannot go to work. There is a transmission recall on the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe with the exact problems the car has been having. Recall #236, campaign #22V746000. I called the recall consequences customer service # and they stated they were unable to help me until the dealership looked at it. The problem started in fall of 2024 and I took it into the dealership first on 11/5/24 and again when it continued the problem 11/14/24. The 11/14/24 visit they performed a software update and the car shifted smoother in Smart Drive Mode only. On Friday, 3/14/25, while driving home from work, the car would not shift at all when pressed the gas turning into traffic. I turned on my hazard lights and pulled into a parking lot. I called roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to the dealership.

Vehicle has been excessively consuming oil. I have been doing regular oil changes every 3k miles and topping off when it gets low. I was driving on the highway and experienced total engine failure with no warning signs. Engine completely locked up and is at the dealership waiting to be inspected.

I have only had my car 7 years and it is at 151,000 miles. I purchased it brand new in 2018. At about 15,000 miles I reported a burning smell under the hood and took kt in. The service department stated they did not smell anything. I continued to keep up with the service and had some issues with oil consumption. Hyundai did the test, but came back and advised it was okay and Hyundai's do this and it is okay. I later had an issue where it began jerking as if it were about to cut off after coming back from Virginia. I had it towed in and they advised it was nothing. Maybe bad gas. I was also told to just always check my car to put oil in it. I felt like this was crazy to have to carry around oil to put in my car within the same month of having an oil change or anytime. I have taken this vehicle in for this reason before I reached 150,000 miles and they would not give me an engine starting it necer had a recall. I explained that it has had issues where it stalled pulling out to get in traffic and I almost had an accident and it has had issues with the engine where it would jerk and hesitate. At this time, I recently went to Simpsonville for a funeral and it began the jerking and hesitation when we got into Fountain Inn. It was a lot and I was told by a mechanic that I needed a new engine. Hyundai would not help me. I called consumer affairs, I guesd with Hyundai and they took over 2 weeks and said there were no recalls and they couldn't do anything. I bought this car brand new, made sure I took care of it and this was what I got. Hyundai is a rip off and they do not guarantee anything. I will never buy from them again. Now I have been without a vehicle for over a month and not even anyone trying to get me a loaner, help with giving me a discount to purchase another vehicle or anything. I should have not had any issues with this car. I was having the exact issues of the recall vehicles but they state there were no recalls on it. Something needs to be done.

The car has shut down unexpectedly for at least six times while driving at roads and highways. When this happens, engine stalls and nothing works and all alarms and check lights turn on and activated. Driver has to pull the car to the roadside which cannot be imagined when in a highway with all cars driving at 65-70mpH and the car suddenly slows down to stop. The other problem is that when the car is turned off and on again, all alarm and faults go away, and it can be driven again! It clears all safety and alarm checks and lights and behaves like nothing has happened. Car was bought on June2023. The first incident happened on Aug2023 and the next one on Sep2023. The next incidents on Feb2024, Sep2024, Nov2024 and the most recent on March 2025. The car has taken to the Sport Durst Hyundai dealership (Durham, NC) after incidents, however dealership did not perform any repairs in first four times claiming they could not duplicate the incident! (service reports attached for 3) After the third incident, we opened a case with Hyundai company trying to invoke the Lemon law, but our request did not go through despite all evidence we provided. Shamefully, their final suggestion to us was to sell the car! This was around March/Apr 2024. (Final decision letter attached) On fifth time, the driver did not shut down the car and towed it to the dealership while leaving electrical system on. They checked the car and claimed they found the cause and changed a part from car claiming it has been fixed. This was on Nov.2024. At the time we did not notice but, apparently that was a lie to make us quiet. The last time (sixth time) the same incident happened on [XXX]. The car was towed to dealership and is left there. We do have all screenshots from engine failures, although the dealership tried to wipe the history at some point. Upon first start up of the day, dashboard notification states “Transmission system error! Check transmission oil immediately”, vehicle will not accelerate over 10mph with this error. After turning vehicle off, error is gone and vehicle operates as normal. Dealership is aware of this notification but states they could not duplicate it & found no issues.

Washer nozzles are non adjustable, and spray too low on windshield to effectively clean glass, especially at highway speeds. Severe visibility issue. I have reported the problem to Hyundai corporate customer service, who are escalating the issue to upper management. I have also brought the vehicle to my local dealer where it was purchased and made them aware of the issue. Dealer agreed with me, and has heard same complaint from many other owners of this model. This should be a simple fix by swapping in an adjustable nozzle.

My 2017 Hyundai SanteFe (76,000 miles) stoped running late night, dark highway. Manged to pull off onto the shoulder. The engine wouldn't even turn over. After about a 2 hour wait I had the vehicle towed to my residence, eventually having it towed to the dealer from which it was purchased. After a few days the service advisor called to tell me that the entire engine needs to be replaced. That, he said, will take 3+ months because it's a manufacturer"s defect. I explained to him that I depend on my SUV for personal and professional reasons so I asked if a loaner car could be provided. The dealer, Heritage Hyundai of Towson, and Hyundai corporate (I called) both refused. Also: Aproximate Blue Book value is $15k. Hyundai's cost to replace the engine is $30k according to the service writer at Heritage.

My vehicle had an oil leak from the front cylinder bank valve cover onto the alternator. the oil damaged the alternator resulting in illumination of the charging system warning lamp and disablement of the charging system. On 11/09/2021, the engine light came on and my car turned off. I had it towed to my mechanic and on 11/10/2021 he replaced the valve cover gaskets, alternator and belt. On 12/2023, I found out there was a manufacture recall related to the valve cover. I placed a claim in 12/2023. They have asked for several versions of documents and then stop communicating and eventually deny/close the account. I have filed approximately 4 claims and they stop communicating. The last claim was filed on 1/2/2025 and I have only received an email stating "Thank you for contacting Hyundai Motor America." I have tried to ask for an update and no response. I have called and it refers me to the recall portal. What do I have to do to get reimbursed for the towing and repair work I that I have paid for.
