- #11655984April 22, 2025VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
The cruise control function ceased to properly function after automatically increasing the speed to 110 mph. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This is a safety risk for myself and for others on the road. If another combination with this fault were to occur (either physically to the driver or to the software), this could lead to an extreme hazard due to the potential for excessive speeds. The first occurrence for this vehicle happened on 4/21/2025; however, additional instances have been reported going back at least a year for other owners of this same model. Initial issue occurred while setting cruise control from 45 mph to 35 mph and then back to 45 mph. The last instance of 45 mph is when the cruise control quickly increased the set speed to 110 mph. The set speed could not be reduced after the issue occurred. This issue is difficult to reproduce, but will always occur after the first instance until the vehicle is restarted. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer. This is a known issue that has occurred for more than a year now. It appears to not be addressed due to the lack of reproducibility. However, when the software issue happens, it is continually reproducible until the vehicle is restarted. No other warning lamps or erroneous events occurred at the time of the software malfunction.

November 1st, 2024 My husband and I were northbound on I71/75 at mile marker 160 while traveling in the high speed lane, doing 65 mph, when the car suddenly lost power, the check engine light immediately came on (NO prior) warnings. The car would not respond, had to coast to the side of road while traffic is whizzing past us at 65+ mph. The car at that point was DOA, lights would come on but motor would not respond . After many discussions with Hyundai corporate and sending them proof of eligibility for remaining factory warranty (window sticker information) that I was told in detail by the dealership representative. I was told emphatically that with it being a lease turn in that I was still eligible for all remaining warranties. Hyundai corporate says that even though I only have 88,000 ( odometer reading at purchase was 24,147) of a 10year/100,000 warranty on the engine. Hyundai corporate says that because I wasn't the original purchased that the warranty is null and void. I feel like there is something very wrong here when these warranties can be voided at the whim of the manufacturer. I have since had to purchase another vehicle in order to make it to the VA medical center for my husband and make it to the hospital for my cancer treatments.

When I am driving with my seatbelt on for no reason at all my seatbelt comes undone doesn't happen all the time but Several times it has happened to me. And then there is something wrong with the transmission. Doesn't shift right away so it like jerks or lunges when it finally goes into gear. I have noticed both of these problems since 2/28/2025

On 03/22/2025, I took my car into Riverside Hyundai because of engine shuttering. Riverside Hyundai discovered foreign fragments in my cylinder from the piston and stated they had never seen this issue before. Their diagnosis was engine replacement at an estimated cost of approximately $7,500 for the engine and $3,168 for labor for a total amount of $10,668. Searching for answers, I quickly came across the Hyundai Elantra Piston Defect Class Action Lawsuit (Brown v. Hyundai Motor America), which pertains to an engine piston defect not properly heat treated affecting the same year and make of my 2019 Hyundai Elantra. The class action lawsuit related to a defect found in certain Elantras equipped with Nu 1.8L engines. Although this defect is specifically tied to issues within the pistons, which are a critical component of the engine responsible for generating the force necessary to power the vehicle. The defect can ultimately result in “total and irreparable engine failure.” This failure leads to a loss of engine power, power steering, and brake assistance, all of which pose significant safety risks. While this class action suit has settled, and is an important step in addressing the engine defect that has already impacted many vehicle owners, I believe that the scope of the class action lawsuit was not broad enough, as it failed to include all vehicles that could potentially be affected by the same or similar defects, specifically Hyundai Elantras with different engine types, like the one in my 2019 Hyundai Elantra. Although my Elantra is equipped with a different engine, I believe that the defect that was present in the class action suit, is the same defect that caused this damage to my engine. I also came across images of the defect online which seem identical to damage caused to my engine. Please see attached files for your review. Riverside Hyundai has denied my request for a good faith replacement engine and are still waiting on a reply from Hyundai.

- #11653071April 6, 2025ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST, ENGINE
Driving on interstate at 70mph. Multiple, five or six, warnings pop up in rapid succession mostly dealing with the safety features such as distance to car in front, adaptive speed control, lane keeping. The last one was hybrid system - safely stop. The car then immediately lost all acceleration power leaving us coasting. This all happened within a few seconds. Terrifying. Luckily we had space to get over quickly. 30 miles sooner we would have been in downtown Jacksonville with no place to maneuver. Extremely dangerous. A few seconds warning then nothing. Turned the vehicle off as soon as we stopped and car was completely dead, no electrical power to anything, including flashers. Not sure how you can’t have flashers on a hybrid. Basically no warning to no power at highway speeds and then no flashers. Something is seriously wrong with this.

The electronic power steering is not working in my 2017 Hyundai Elantra. My vin# is showing as unaffected for this specific recall, however I am having the same issue that the recall is for. I have a code that came up for the electronic power steering. It is quite a coincidence.

The contact owned a 2024 Hyundai Elantra. The contact stated that while stopped in traffic on a three-lane highway, another vehicle with a distracted driver crashed into the rear driver’s side and side-swiped the vehicle up to the front driver’s side door of the contact’s vehicle at approximately 50 MPH and pushed the contact’s vehicle into rear-end of the vehicle in front, causing that vehicle to spin around on the highway. The vehicles came to a stop after the impact. The contact stated that the air bags failed to deploy. Additionally, the Blue Link Service in the vehicle failed to activate to notify the Emergency Services of the crash. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local Caliber Collision body shop. The contact stated that the vehicle was deemed a total loss by the body shop and the Insurance provider. A Police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to her neck, back, a torn left rotator cuff, and injuries to her shoulders. Medical attention was sought for the injuries sustained. The contact was receiving physical therapy and pain management for the injuries. The contact stated that there were no injuries to the other drivers. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed as it had been declared a total loss. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that there was no fault with the air bags or the Blue Link Service. The approximate failure mileage was 5,308.
