2015 Honda Odyssey with approx 34000 miles. During auto stop/start events the van intermittently would not restart. This issue was worse during warm weather and occured throughout the summer of 2025. It was also noticed that the van sometimes would experience hard starts when restarting soon after a drive. It appeared to be a heat soak issue with the starter and the starter could not turn over the engine. There were no service lights present during this issue. After it failed to start, you would need to turn the ignition off then back on to attempt to restart. Service was performed at Performance Honda in Fairfield Ohio on 11/21/2025, and although the van passed all tests in regards to battery and starter. Initially the van was not going to be repaired/covered, but the van happened failed to start while in the service bay. The starter assembly was replaced under warranty on 11/25/2025. This is a safety issue when the van doesn't restart while at a stoplight or even worse when attempting to pull out into traffic.

Around Dec 2024, the central control screen started blacking out. At first, it would black out and then the screen will come back on randomly. We took the car to Tempe Honda service center, and the technician was able to reproduce the problem, and it's covered under warranty. However, they had to order, but they didn't anticipate that it would be in back order. A couple months later, we checked on the status and found out that it was on back order and there is only one manufacturer, so it could take a few more months. We kept on calling to check on the status, and the anticipated back-fill date kept on pushing out. Finally, the screen went completed black and wouldn't come back around Aug 2025. We called Tempe Honda, and the service manager suggested us to call American Honda Motor. We did, and a case was open with American Honda Motor around 10/17/2025. American Honda Motor has been providing weekly update to us, however the update has been the same, which is that they are waiting for ETA on the release date for the part. We wrote an email back on 11/20/2025 with our concerns around safety due to this defect. They called on 11/26/2025 and suggest us to file a complaint with NHTSA. Our concerns in the email include: 1) it's the central control for a lot of the functions including navigation (which we can't update because the screen is broken, and the warranty period to do so will soon be at an end); 2) It's being used when we back up our car. With the defect screen, the back-up camera is useless. This poses potential danger as we pull out of a busy parking lot, such as at school when we drop off and pick up kids. it's very difficult to back up without the screen especially when there are large vehicles parked next to us; 3) To have customers with an essential part of the car being defective for a year is unacceptable. This problem needs to be fixed ASAP. Thank you!

When the vehicle is stopped, and the auto-shut off engages, the vehicle will turn off, and the vehicle has to be restarted. Quite dangerous when in traffic and the vehicle is dead due to the auto-shut off not starting again. The fix is believed to be an updated starter engine computer and starter motor.

The Auto Idle Stop (AIS) feature on our 2024 Honda Odyssey EX-L has recently failed to restart engine leaving driver and passengers stranded in heavy traffic at intersection traffic lights. This has occurred twice, once while traveling alone, once while traveling with five year old child. Safety put at risk because driver had to exit car in middle of road during rush hour traffic while cars attempted to go around. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by dealer. Had battery tested at auto parts store and results indicate battery in good condition. Vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives. There were not any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure.

The contact owns a 2025 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle stalled. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was unable to pull over to the side of the road. The contact turned on the hazard lights. The contact waited to restart the vehicle and after several attempts the vehicle restarted. The contact stated that upon depressing the brake pedal and pushing the Start button, the brake pedal was stiff while the start button made an abnormal beeping sound. The message "Press the Brake Pedal and Push the Start Button," was displayed. The contact was able to continue driving; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. The failure had occurred four times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle remained at the dealer undiagnosed and unrepaired. The contact no longer felt safe driving the vehicle and left the vehicle at the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 18,886.

Category: Structure / Water Leak / Electrical System Risk Vehicle: 2025 Honda Odyssey Description of the Problem: My 2025 Honda Odyssey has a repeated and serious water leak issue that affects the driver-side floor area. I first discovered the leak on October 30, 2025, with the driver-side carpet and foam padding completely soaked. The dealership (Sloane Honda in Philadelphia) kept the vehicle for two days but claimed they could not find any leak. On November 19, 2025, the same leak occurred again, with even more water present under the driver-side carpet and foam. I have photos and videos showing significant water accumulation. This presents multiple safety hazards: Potential electrical short circuits in wiring under the carpet Mold growth affecting occupant health Floorboard corrosion Impaired vehicle operation The vehicle is currently back at the dealership, and Honda has not provided a proper resolution. This is a recurring structural defect that poses a safety risk and should be investigated.

The vehicle intermittently fails to restart after the auto start/stop stopped the engine. This happened several times when stopped at a traffic signal, nearly causing an accident when cars behind expected to move after the traffic signal turned green. There were no warnings or indications prior to the failure to start. Multiple attempts to restart the vehicle failed until at least a minute or so had elapsed. The vehicle has also intermittently failed to start after being parked for a few minutes after being driven for 20 minutes or so. The starter has generally sounded weak when starting, and when it fails to start it sounds like the engine tries to start turning for a fraction of a second before it stops trying to crank the engine. It almost seems like the start duration is too short or the ECU thinks the engine has successfully started when it hasn't. I brought the vehicle into the dealership to have this checked, and they replaced the battery saying it was bad. However, the failures to start continued to happen shortly after. I returned the vehicle to the dealership to be checked again. They have not yet identified anything that could be causing the issue. They claim the battery and starter test good. Based on similar complaints, it seems that this is an issue with many of these vehicles. Honda needs to identify the root cause of this failure to start issue.

COMPLAINT: 2025 HONDA ODYSSEY AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM FAILURE Component Failed: Auto start/stop system fails to restart engine after automatic shutdown. Vehicle available for inspection. Appears related to investigation INOA-EA25004-10033. Safety Risk: Vehicle has failed to restart approximately 12 times since May 2025, all at intersections with active traffic. When auto start/stop engages at stoplights and fails to restart, the vehicle remains stationary and blocks traffic lanes when lights turn green. This creates hazardous conditions where other vehicles must maneuver around a stalled vehicle in intersections, risking rear-end collisions and traffic disruptions. Dealer Confirmation: Yes. Authorized Honda dealership tested battery (good), contacted Honda customer support directly. Honda acknowledged the issue but provided no diagnostic solution or repair procedure. Dealership's only recommendation was to manually disable auto start/stop every time the vehicle is operated. This is unacceptable for a new vehicle and defeats the purpose of this factory system. Manufacturer Inspection: Authorized Honda dealership consulted with Honda customer support. No fix or remedy provided. Warning Symptoms: None. No warning lamps or dashboard messages appear before or during failure. Auto start/stop system operates normally until restart phase, then engine fails to restart. First occurrence May 2025. Problem occurs intermittently.

The liftgate on my vehicle stopped functioning in March 2024, one month after the warranty expired. On June 24, 2025, the vehicle underwent a power tailgate unit replacement and water leak repair at Ocean Honda of Brockton. Water had leaked into the tailgate unit and caused it to short out. The total cost for this repair was $1,776.18. I have attached a copy of the paid service repair summary and proof of payment. My primary concern, beyond the financial burden, is the inherent safety risk posed by this malfunction. As a parent of three children, we specifically chose the Honda Odyssey for its reputation for safety and reliability as a family vehicle. A power tailgate unit that can fail due to water infiltration presents a serious hazard, as it could cause the tailgate to unexpectedly open while the vehicle is in motion. This could lead to items falling out onto the road, creating a dangerous road hazard for other drivers, or potentially compromising the safety of passengers if the vehicle is involved in an accident. Right before the tailgate stopped working, we noticed a "low battery" warning upon starting the van. This is probably due to the electrical short. I sent a letter to American Honda Motor Company on July 2, 2025, detailing the issue, but have yet to hear a response.

With vehicle auto start/stop feature enabled, vehicle just shuts off when attempting to start back up after shutting off at a stop light. It has happened multiple times and recently it even happened with the auto start/stop feature turned off. Took it to the dealership and they tested everything to include the battery and they weren’t able to duplicate it. A review of forums showed other people with the same issue and it is pointing to a faulty starter, but no recall has been issued yet.

On October 31, 2025, I brought my vehicle to the dealer for several issues, including an Auto Engine Idle Stop System problem, a memory seat malfunction, and other concerns that were discussed with the service advisor and are listed in the invoice. I was charged almost $1,000, including a new battery. Initially, some of the problems appeared to be resolved, but shortly after the service, the Auto Engine Idle Stop System problem reappeared, and the memory seat stopped working again. Even more concerning, a new and dangerous issue began immediately after the repair: while driving at night, the headlights suddenly turn off for a few seconds and then turn back on, and the “Auto Engine Idle Stop System Problem” warning appears at the same time. This issue never occurred before the dealer performed the repair. This situation is extremely unsafe, especially when driving in dark conditions with my family. I contacted the dealership through their “Contact Us” form on November 2, 2025, and again via live chat on November 5, 2025. I was told that someone would reach out to me, but as of November 9, 2025, I have received no response.

When car is stopped it completely shuts off, goes into park and does not restart. This has happened 3 times, twice at an intersection and once as I slowed to a stop sign. The car didn’t restart and I had to push the engine start to restart the car. This was dangerously because it has happened while I stopped but also while I was slowing down at an intersection, the car would abruptly shut off. When this happens warning lights on the dash appear but go away once I restart the engine.

My 2025 Honda Odyssey has been completely shutting off after the stop-start shuts the engine off. When the car actually “stalls” is when I let off the brake and it’s time to start going. Then I hear a ding, the dash lights come on, and I have to frantically hit the ignition button to restart my car. This happens intermittently, without warning. I've been stuck at redlights afraid I will be rear ended because all of a sudden I can't move forward at a green light. My and others safety is at risk. Honda does not allow the start/stop to be disabled by default. It has to be disabled, manually, by the driver, every single time the car is restarted. So you can't just ignore this problem by shutting off the feature when the feature won't allow itself to be shut off by default.

- #11697897November 6, 2025LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST
When using the sensor-controlled, automatic wipers the lane keeping assist is silently disabled when the wiper speed switches to high. There is no warning or explicit notification of this other than the dashed lane markings indicator becoming "empty". There should be some on console warning that is more substantial so the driver knows they cannot rely on lane assist steering during this time.

- #11697370November 4, 2025VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
Observed repeatedly while operating at highway/interstate cruising speed, with adaptive cruise engaged: any changes in road texture - concrete to blacktop, between different types of blacktop or concrete, separation joints, etc - such as when crossing a bridge, crossing state lines, entering open-road toll plazas, etc - results in a sharp lifting of the throttle and at times will also automatically engage the brakes. This results in rapidly and unexpectedly cutting speed by 10-15 mph before automatically resuming set speed 1-2 seconds later. This has resulted in trailing vehicles to think I am brake-checking them or otherwise caused them to abruptly brake or swerve out from behind me. It also can cause driver and occupants in the Odyssey to lurch forward and back unexpectedly - which has had a residual affect of unintended input on the steering wheel, cascading into unintended direction change and amplifying vehicle instability issues already introduced by the sudden speed change. There are multiple other owners of 2018+ Odysseys on the forum [XXX] which have reported similar situations. I have tried to encourage them to register their observations here. I believe this issue poses a significant risk to the operator and occupants, as well as surrounding motorists. Rental/fleet vehicles with drivers who are otherwise unfamiliar with the issue would be at exceptional risk. I have experienced this issue numerous times as I live near & frequent highways and interstates with these types of road conditions nearby. I came to a stop at a stop sign. Then "auto off" shut off the engine. Next, the vehicle went into park. A message came on screen telling me to press the brake and the start button. Doing so had no effect. Cars behind me started honking. After repeatedly stabbing the start button and opening and closing my driver's door, the vehicle eventually rebooted, and the engine started as normal. This caused a dangerous situation where other cars went into opposing traffic to get around me.
