Unknown. The steering wheel feels like it gets stuck when I'm driving at 45 mph+, but especially around 70 mph. It's like the steering wheel is locked and I have to forcefully tug it to correct my driving, but then it gets stuck all over again, so it's a constant back and forth while making minor corrections when driving.

2024 Honda Civic Touring at about ~4650 miles when brought into the dealership on 1/10/24 Two days prior, experienced sticky steering while driving on Highways speeds betweens 40 mph and 70 mph. Steering wheel would get "stuck" in the center position requiring extra force to be able to turn. Sometimes causing the car to hear or unable to turn without applying extra force. After the steering became unstuck, it would function normally until it went back to the center position. Brought it to the dealership on 1/10/24, and they diagnosed it as a bad EPS (Electronic Power Steering) unit and informed me that the part is on back ordered and could be a month or so. This car was purchased on 9/30/23 with 5 miles on it, no previous owners I had it checked on 12/23/23 for the recall that was issued, but my car was not affected due to it not having the replacement EPS unit that was being recalled.

My 2023 Honda Civic Sport Touring Hatchback which I bought new in May 2023 which now has 10700 miles driven and was serviced by my Honda dealership in Fall 2023 now exhibits a "sticky" or "notchy" steering wheel sensation off of dead center steering at straight line highway speeds. It is gradually becoming more noticeable so I am going to report it to my dealership. There are no warning messages. I've turned off the lane crossing safety warning device because this symptom resembles that sensation. I've ensured my tires are at the recommended PSI. I'm not comfortable driving it for long distances on the interstate because this sensation increases with time and mileage driven.

Steering wheel sticks when making small adjustments on highway after driving for a certain amount of time, usually 20-30 minutes. Will reset itself after cooling off and sitting overnight. When it sticks it takes more force than expected to unstick, causing my car to jerk in the lane. It started as it is getting colder outside, and the car is relatively still low mileage (5700mi).

I was making a right turn the steering wheel stuck & I hit a curb causing significant damage. Honda says it’s not from recall & won’t pay for any of it $4600 to repair it. It was clearing from the steering being sticky.

The Civic idles low after coming to a stop. Idles approximately 500 rpm’s. Periodically it will drop below 500 and stall. About 3 occurrences so far. Once at 500, there is no throttle response. The pedal can be fully depressed and the motor will continue to idle. Throttle response will occur anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds later. My work around is to take the car out of DRIVE and put it back. This solves problem. Mostly. I may have to do that a second time. Reverse is different. The car doesn’t move at all 100% of the time. And it takes me to move in and out of Reverse to get it to move. There are occasions that the throttle will activate. But, if you lift off the throttle…. It won’t engage. Below asks when this happens. It began over a year ago. I would depress the throttle and could count to 3 before going. Now it’s longer than 10. But, since I’ve learned about taking the car out of gear.

When going around 50mph+, the steering wheel tends to feel "stuck" in the middle, which causes you to overcorrect it to the side, causing the driving to feel super unstable. When I take it to the dealership, they keep saying there are no warnings on diagnostics, so I get the car back with the same issue still happening at random times. Please help! There are tons of online posts about this same issue with the same model of Civic and it doesn't seem like dealerships know what to do about it. It's a very uncomfortable way to drive a car and feels very unsafe.

- #11564884January 11, 2024VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL, STEERING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
I was driving on the Interstate had car on cruise control set at 70mph it began to slow to 60mph because of a vehicle in front of me so I moved to the left lane to go around and the vehicle just speed up (G5 force) on its own very quickly and reached speeds up to 80mph and would have kept accelerating past 80mph had I not disengaged the cruise control instead of braking. The second issue we have found was the steering became uncontrollable. It feels like the steering wheel gets stuck and hard to control to stay in your lane. You are not relaxed to drive this vehicle. Your body tenses up just to control the steering. We took it to the dealer for the steering recall but I don't think this is the issue. It is something more serious. We refused to drive our vehicle until it is repaired. A loner vehicle was given to us as the parts for the recall will not be in until April 2024.

The front windshield glue holding it on the car has failed. The windshield can be pushed out completely with only a pinky finger. This should not happen and is very dangerous. This windshield could of came off easily from sudden stopping or collisions and caused serious bodily injury to the driver. Safelite auto glass came out to inspect and replace the window due to this defect. They stated it is a factory installed front windshield and they had never seen anything like it. The windshield started coming off less than a week ago. There were no warnings. We knew there was a problem when we heard wind sound coming in while driving. I have tried to upload a PDF documentation, but the website will not let me upload it.

There at times where the steering requires a little more effort to turn. This causes me to either over correct or panic a little bit that my steering wheel is "sticky".

I was driving from work, when pressing the gas pedal would not accelerate the vehicle. I was passing over a bridge when the problem occurred. It was in heavy traffic and near a onramp for a busy interstate. I arrived at a stop light before the onramp, and different warning lights on my dash lit up. There were no warning lights on prior to this moment. I tried starting the car again with my hazard lights on, but it would not "turn over". I assumed that either my battery/alternator was having problems or the engine was not receiving fuel to start. Traffic was too heavy for me to get out of my car and thankfully, no one hit me or my car. After trying to jump the car, I had it towed to a small mechanic recommended to me that night. The next morning, I was informed that the codes indicated a problem with the fuel pump and that Honda had a safety recall out. They said to tow it to a certified dealer to get the problem fixed. The Honda dealership received the car that day, after closing, and I called the next morning. I was told that the dealership could not touch my car because the recall was not official. I asked about a loaner car or reimbursement for a rental car and informed that they would get back to me soon with an answer and I should call Honda Customer Care. I was informed that yes the dealership should be able to assess my car and though the recall is not out yet, they could fix it and I would pay out of pocket to be reimbursed when the recall became official. After multiple days and calls, they finally ran the diagnostic codes and confirmed that the fuel pump is affected and that the recall is the culprit, but they could not fix it because it was not official and they did not have the parts. I was finally told last night that they could order parts and fix it by Friday. Customer Care called again today, telling me they do not know how to fix it. No other transportation has been offered and having one vehicle has put a strain on my wife and I.

Intermittently, and only within the past 2000 miles or so, the steering will begin to have a notchy feel during highway driving. The steering requires excessive force to move the wheel and then the wheel jerks and causes the steering to do the same. It is very dangerous and unsettling at highway speeds. The issue seems to only occur above 45mph, but again, it is not happening every time I drive above 45mph.

- #11564314January 9, 2024FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
-What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Forward collision warning and accelerator pedal How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Traffic travelling at 45+ mph had to change lanes to avoid rear ending me after I pulled out onto the frontage roads from a stop and the accelerator pedal stopped responding (rpms went to idle). If there was less time to pull onto the road and/or others couldn't change lanes this could have been very bad. -Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No. -Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. -Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The screen was flashing "BRAKE" while I had the gas pedal pressed to the floor (after realizing the car wasn't responding) with no response from the car for probably 3 seconds while traveling less than 10 mph. I had no way of knowing the accelerator pedal would become unresponsive after pulling out into traffic. -My theory is that a pedestrian on the right sidewalk potentially made the (camera?) system think I was going to hit them but the person was not in or even that close to the road and my car wasnt pointed at them at any point. -This happened awhile ago (unsure of exact date) but couldn't help but think of how bad it could have been there was less of a gap or other drivers were unable to change lanes and it still makes me uneasy pulling out into fast paced traffic unknowing if the car will have this happen again potentially causing a serious accident.

-What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Unknown, possibly the steering rack and or power steering motor. -How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk Inability to safely maintain lanes and the wheel not returning to the center after a turn requires extra force (Especially60+MPH) to get the wheel moving again that causes over corrections and in turn swerving that can be very dangerous to me and others on the road especially after getting stuck during said over correction. -Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, I took the car to the dealership said they were aware of some cars having this "sticky steering" and they did NOT get in the car to confirm the issue. -Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes, after I called the dealership about the steering issue, the dealership scheduled appointment for the car and held the car at the dealership for (I think 1) day for a recall for a similar issue description: "An improperly assembled steering rack may allow tires and/or tire chains to rub against the vehicle’s lower suspension or tire rod end, which could cause tire damage." They gave the car back after the 1 day and said the car wasn't experiencing said issue of the tires rubbing and they updated some software. Nothing changed after getting the car back, they did not replace or service any parts of the car. The steering issue has gotten significantly worse since. -Any warning lamps, messages OrOther symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? I started noticing the steering wheel getting stuck when driving straight and requiring extra force to get it moving again, micro adjustments are really hard without over correcting. The wheel also started no longer returning to center and gets stuck off center and LKAS wont stayCenteredInLN
