My 2022 Honda Civic Sport has been having an issue with the steering rack it seems. The steering wheel gets stuck when turning left and right. It "sticks". This is super frustrating with it being a new car. I have never been in a vehicle that has an issue like this, and it seems that many people have the same issue as me.

Starting at roughly 10,000 - 11,000 miles, while going 45+, and after driving for 10+ minutes, the steering has seemed to become sticky and no longer has a smooth operation. It almost seems like it gets jerky/slightly stuck for a split second each time you start to move the steering wheel.

The contact's daughter owned a 2019 Honda Civic Sedan. The contact received notification NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the parts to repair were not available. The contact stated that her daughter was driving at an unknown MPH when the daughter stopped at the stop sign. However, the vehicle did not stop, causing the contact's daughter to crash into the front driver side of another vehicle and both vehicles crashed into a wall. No warning lights illuminated. All of the air bag deployed. The contact sustained bruises on her face, 9 stitches on her right hand, and a bruised left knee which required medical attention. The contact did not go to the hospital by ambulance. The contact stated her daughter has suffered emotionally. The driver in the other vehicle did not seek medical attention at that time. The vehicle was towed to CoPart and deemed destroyed. A police report was not filed. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) as a possible cause for the accident. The contact notified the manufacturer of the failure and was given a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 44,825.

Steering wheel is sticking at speeds greater than 40 MPH. This has been an on-going issue for several months, but over the last week it has been getting worse. The incident that has prompted this complaint occurred while driving this evening on the interstate. I moved to pass an 18-wheeler while entering a slight curve in the lanes. The steering wheel failed to respond as it should have, and I felt as if I could have been in an accident. It isn't that I could not turn at all, but the extra effort I had to use on the wheel in order to navigate only a modest curve in the scared me in that particular situation. Since it is getting worse, I have to say I'm not fully confident of my safety while driving this car. I feel this for two reasons: first, I have no idea when or where the problem might present itself, or to what degree of effort I will need to put into the wheel; and second, I feel at some point I will overcompensate and either hit another vehicle or drive into a skid. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer, but I am not certain they even test-drove the car. The invoice states it operates as normal, which means they could not have test-drove it. I described my issue in detail, even showed them the complaints on the NHTSA website, and I was told that Honda did not have a solution for the problem. There are no warning lamps present, and the vehicle is available for inspection for anyone who wants to inspect it.

My steering wheel does this "sticky" thing. It's exactly what I have read about online. If I turn left the car is not turning with me. If I turn right the car isn't turning with me. Very unsafe and has almost cause multiple accidents! I took the car to the dealership and they were not a huge help. I was quoted $2500 for repairs! Unacceptable for such a new car and such a common problem!

When driving at highway speeds, steering wheel “sticks” or “locks” and requires extra force to turn. Problem was intermittent at first but has gotten worse over the last few days. Problem seems to occur whenever the wheel has not been turned for a few seconds. Driving at city speeds doesn’t cause problem to occur. No lights or warnings indicate any problems. Issue occurs with or without lane departure on. I’ve made an appointment with the dealership. Dealership said they would “re-inspect” a part that had previously passed their visual inspection but has known issues/recalls.

The contact owns a 2023 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at various highway speeds the vehicle had experienced a sticky steering wheel and would not immediately respond when turning in either direction. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 2,000.

After sitting outside for 9 hours during a heavy rain storm and then driving for 30 minutes in the same storm, water is somehow entering the trim of the rear hatch, then draining into the trunk space via inside trim panel seams near the taillights. Water is entering the vehicle cabin trunk.

I am experiencing sticky steering. When driving the steering seems to get stuck until I forcefully move the wheel to overcome the steering resistance.

The problem I am experiencing is with the steering on my 2023 Civic. I have seen it referred to online as "sticky steering". Basically, the steering wheel/system initially resists attempts to turn the wheel from its present position. Once this initial resistance is overcome, required turning effort is smooth until the turn or correction is complete. Then the steering seems to take another set and the initial resistance must be overcome again. I first noticed this problem in late October or early November 2023 when the car was about 4 months old. I subsequently received a recall notice from Honda for a potential steering rack assembly issue that I thought might be causing the problem. I brought the car in to the local Honda dealership for the recall, but found that the recall issue was not causing the "Sticky Steering" (See Attachment). Instead, my Civic was experiencing a different problem common with 2022 - 2023 Civics and already known to Honda. However, there does not appear to be a recall on this "sticky steering" issue. The local dealership ordered a replacement steering gear box to fix the issue (see attachment). The replacement gear box was due in by December 31, 2023. Recently, I contacted the dealership and found out that the replacement gear box was delayed until February 28, 2024. In my opinion, this is not acceptable for an issue that could result in an accident if extra precaution is not taken while operating the vehicle.

Steering is sticking when driving at highway speeds. Steering wheel requires extra force to begin steering, and after starting to turn the wheel, power steering starts at a delay. This causes difficulty making small steering adjustments and causes sudden overcorrection.

This vehicle has started to randomly start pulling to the left or right as it's moving at a high rate of speed. It was diagnosed by the dealer to need the steering rack replaced. This is the same issue the 2022-2024 Honda Civic are being recalled for. The dealership stated that they have seen a lot of 2021 model coming in for this same issue so I am concerned it could involve the 2021 models as well. It has become very dangerous to drive.

Sticky steering, vehicle is hard to drive at highway speeds due to steering sticking making it impossible to make minor corrections. After making a sweeping turn the steering does not return to center on its own and requiring force to center. This was first reported at around 6,000 miles and repaired at 12,000 miles. This has now reoccurred at 24,000 miles and is persisting. according to the dealer the repair part is 4 months out. This car is dangerous to drive!

When driving at 50mph the steering wheel gets stuck and requires more force in order to slightly turn the wheel, I took my car to the dealership to get my recall fixed about the steering rack but the issues persists.
