1. I am being told that the high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) catastrophically seized and locked up internally while driving. Because the HPFP on the 3.0L Duramax (LM2) engine is directly driven by the engine's timing system, this sudden mechanical seizure instantly destroyed the engine timing gears and snapped/skipped the timing chain. The failed components are currently intact inside the vehicle and are fully available for inspection upon request at Ron's Smith GMC in Merced, CA. 2. The failure occurred on busy Labor Day (XXX) while our family of [XXX] was traveling back home at 70 mph on a major highway. The truck violently shook, instantly lost all engine power, and forced the vehicle into a dangerous limp-mode state before completely stalling in live highway traffic at night around 10:45 pm. This sudden loss of propulsion at high speed severely compromised our ability to safely navigate out of the way of fast-moving highway traffic, creating an immediate & extreme risk of a high-speed rear-end collision. At times hazard lights didn't work causing family panic & screaming as truck shook with passing traffic. 3. The problem has been officially confirmed by Ron Smith GMC in Merced, CA. Their service department diagnosed the issue, confirming that the high-pressure fuel pump had locked up and subsequently destroyed the timing belt/chain & engine gears. 4. The vehicle and its failed components have only been inspected by technicians at the Ron Smith GMC dealership service department. No police, insurance representatives, or outside third parties have inspected the vehicle yet. 5. I had been extremely happy with my truck and there were absolutely no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or driving symptoms prior to the failure. The truck was operating perfectly normally under cruise until the exact moment of the failure, at which point a "Reduced Engine Power" warning flashed on the dashboard simultaneously with the mechanical lock-up, shaking, and immediate stall. While driving my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 at highway/interstate speed, the front upper grille molding/deflector unexpectedly detached from the vehicle. There was no collision or known impact immediately preceding the failure. I recovered the detached molding and inspected the vehicle afterward. Multiple molded attachment points on the back of the upper grille molding are fractured/broken. Several of the attachment retainers and mounting hardware remain attached to the vehicle. Photographs were taken of the detached molding, broken attachment points, mounting locations, and the vehicle after the incident. I have retained the failed part. I am aware of NHTSA Recall 25V060 / GM Safety Recall N242490120 concerning certain 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles in which front upper grille deflector attachment points may fracture over time, potentially allowing the deflector to detach from the vehicle and become a road hazard. My vehicle is a 2023 model and is not currently included in that recall, but the failure I experienced appears similar to the failure described in that campaign. I am reporting this incident because the component detached while the vehicle was traveling at highway speed and could have struck another vehicle or created a roadway hazard. I request that NHTSA document and evaluate this failure and determine whether similar failures are occurring in 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by a dealer or manufacturer. There were no warning lights, messages, looseness, or other symptoms noticed before the molding detached. The failure occurred suddenly while the vehicle was in motion and created a potential road hazard for following motorists. The failed molding remains in my possession and is available for inspection. My vehicle is a 2023 model and is not currently included in Recall 25V060 / GM N242490120, but the observed attachment-point fractures appear similar to the failure described in that recall.

I was driving home on the evening of September 12th 2026 and when I exited the interstate and came to a stop at the traffic signal my vehicle died and I had to have it towed. There was no way to flat tow because we couldn’t get it into neutral without the vehicle’s engine running. Once the vehicle’s engine died it would not restart. Had this happened while still on the interstate causing my vehicle to be disabled in the lane of travel it could have been deadly since it was 10 p.m. in the evening and dark outside. Anyhow had the vehicle towed to the dealership for diagnosis and the engine spun #7 rod bearing which ruined the entire engine at just 15,182 miles.

600 miles and 3 months out of warranty the dash completely disappeared. Dealership says the costs is in excess of $1600 to fix the issue. I have researched this and it is a common problem with these trucks and it needs an instrument cluster. Given the fact that GMC controls the panels to these trucks I feel certain that this is actually caused by them and should be fixed under a recall. We have owned the truck 6 months. We are not able to see the speed limit, gas limits or anything on the dash any longer.

Driving vehicle at approximately 70 mph when a semi truck passed me going the opposite direction. The upper grille deflector / molding section of my front end grille blew off and landed into on coming traffic. I understand a recall was issued for the same problem on the 2022 models, but not the 2023 model.

At approximately 2 years, 47,000 miles I received a message that I needed to service the transmission soon. I then got a message "Trailer Brakes Disabled Service Required" and another "Service Transmission Now Unable to Shift Soon". I brought the vehicle into my closest GM dealer and they said it is a faulty shift control lever. These are known to have a fault from the factory, but since I am outside of the 36,000 bumper to bumper, they will not cover the cost. It took about 2 months for the part to come in as it was on back order, and now they want $1000 to replace it.

Dealer confirmed 6.2 V8 engine failed at a little over 4000 miles. Dealer stated it was the bottom of the engine. Probably the same failure the 21-24 recall is for.

There is an known issue with the coolant control valve that causes the truck to enter "limp mode" that dangerously reduces the engine power. The part is not recalled but there is a special extended warranty, N252508341, up to 15yrs or 150,000 miles for 2021-2022 GMC 1500 trucks but my VIN is excluded from this for some reason. I would like this investigated.

The engine blew up driving down the road 5k miles past warranty. Complete junk and had to pay for a new one. They would only put in another defective 6.2 gmc engine and it will fail again

While operating my 2024 GMC Sierra EV Edition 1 at approximately 21,000 miles, a "Service Power Steering" warning appeared. Steering effort initially increased and then rapidly progressed to a near-complete loss of power steering assist. The steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn, making anything more than a gradual sweeping turn nearly impossible. I was able to safely exit the roadway into a parking lot. After shutting down and restarting the vehicle, steering assist returned to normal. No crash or injury occurred, but I believe this represents a significant safety risk because loss of steering assist at highway speed could result in loss of vehicle control.

The transmission overheats on this vehicle shutting the vehicle into “limp mode” this is extremely dangerous when at interstate/highway speeds and the vehicle slows it self down to a dangerously low speed and all other vehicles around are traveling at a high rate of speed, this has happened twice, it has also happened while in back roads and tractor trailers have had to swerve to avoid a collision.

The vehicle in questions was purchased with less than 5 miles in year 2020. This vehicle was dropped off at MAC HAIK CHEVOLET MADISON MS on September 25, 2026. I was advised on September 28, 2026, that the vehicle was test driven with the scan tool connected, Graph Torque converter slip, found over 100 RPM slip when torque converter engaged and causing shutter at highway speeds, also felt 1-2 and 2-1 harsh downshift, check fluid condition was black and smelled burnt, replace transmission assembly, flush cooler, program transmission control module and perform clutch fast learn. Estimated cost of $8k
