Transmission is failing. Up shifting it misses gears and slams into random gears. It has sent me off the road buy at 50 mph in 7th gear it randomly shifts to first gear locks the rear tires up and spins the truck out. The problem can be reproduced anytime you start driving the truck after its been off for a while. But that doesn't mean it can't start up at any time. no warning light. problem started around 78k miles. THIS IS DANGER

While driving the steering wheel will jerk and pull the wheel to the right then have no power steering at all. This has happened three times now with one time I ran off the road while going around a corner , luckily on a fm road with no traffic. I have to stop turn the vehicle off wait a few minutes then restart and it is fine again for awhile. I used a code reader to find a torque shaft sensor code where it loses communication with itself intermittently which is inside the electric power steering rack and unserviceable outside a 2k whole steering assembly. This is a dangerous fault , I used my truck at work until this happened and lost my job due to not being able to perform my duties as a maintenance tech. I see the recalls online about this issue I’ve tried to schedule a service to have it reprogrammed but everytime I try the ford site just spins and never loads for this service yet will work just fine for any other aspect .. please help I shouldn’t have to lose everything because of fords known issue with the power steering .. I’m the second owner of this vehicle and have no other problems ever with the truck outside of normal maintenance. I can’t afford the rack due to losing my job and can’t get to a job due to the issue it’s a catch 22 .. please help…

The 10R80 transmission shifts extremely rough. For example, mine has 67,600 miles on it and has horrible shifting behavior in the lower gears (3,4 and 5) whether shifting up or down. This is a very common problem and Ford has yet to deal with it for recalls and improve safety. The fix is extremely expensive and needs to be addressed.

As of May 23, 2023 Ford issued a TSB 22-2428, TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT Automatic Transmission - Harsh/Delayed Engagement And/Or Harsh/Delayed Shift - Built On Or Before 23-Dec-2022 " Ford issued a TSB and not a recall since they knew the affected vehicles would be out of warranty and they could then charge the owners pay for repair cost of $8,000- $12,000 for a new transmission replacement. Ford refuses to replace these transmission at their expense, if you are out of warranty, which I am and most are unless you have a extend warranty. How it is even legal that they aren't required by law to replace these transmission at the full expense of Ford since they clearly sold us vehicles with known defective transmission from the beginning and refused to address when the vehicles were under warranty. My safety concern is the transmission will fail in open traffic from these harsh engagement, harsh & delayed shifts. I made multiple remarks to the Ford service departments about harsh transmission problems, once around 30,000 miles and again around 60,000 miles. Ford never admitted identifying operation flaws during their evaluations. They stated transmission was operating within normal specifications.

Our 2019 F150 four-wheel-drive began jerking, hesitating, and gear slipped from 1st to 3rd to 3rd and fifth when we attempted to cross an intersection, our car would not shift at all, and we had to coast across the intersection and it finally caught and began moving forward. The vehicle also displayed a warning light in the dashboard, but it said our trailer was disconnected. We didn’t have a trailerWe brought the vehicle home called the dealership. The next day the vehicle was on a tow truck going to the dealers. I thought we were going to get hit my car’s not paying attention in front of us Behind Us and coming through the intersection. This was a very scary moment for me. I was afraid the power train was gonna lock up while we were driving 45 miles an hour home. The dealership said the train. The powertrain was shot and needed to be repaired but offered no assistance no help and I’m fighting with the dealership who offered us a lifetime warranty on our powertrain as long as we own the vehicle and will not honor the free powertrain replacement. This makes me believe that Ford has known all along that they have a very huge safety issue both my husband and myself have to drive on the interstate to get to work and we spend about an hour in traffic each way I would hate to see what would happen if the wheels did lock up or the gears would just strip out I believe more than just a powertrain could possibly be wrong with this vehicle as well

Transmission is acting up causing vehicle to jerk in traffic and makes a loud clunking sound in 3-4 and 8 gear. I’m afraid it’s gonna fail one day and cause an accident. I hear from other Ford F150 owners this is a widespread issue with these vehicles.

VIN # [XXX] Ford Customer Service Current Case Number: [XXX] Integrated Trailer Module Failure after recall completion. NHTSA Campaign ID Recall # 26C10 was completed at Coconut Point Ford in Florida on 3/26/2026. This recall identified that when towing a trailer, the integrated Trailer Module may lose communication with the trailer possibly causing a loss of brake and turn signal lights or a loss of brake function. On [XXX] in the middle of a seriously steep and dangerous decent, the system reported that the trailer was disconnected from the truck causing, loss of trailer brake control which in turn cause a reliance on the truck. The antilock brake system failed moments later. I had to literally stand on the brakes to slow down to keep from going over the side of the mountain. At the end of the dirt road where it Ts onto the highway we could not stop. We travel with a 23 foot 2019 Vintage Cruiser manufactured by Gulf Stream. That weighs approximately 5200 lbs empty; I have a Cat Scale reading of 4840 pounds from a 12/6/24 weight with my previous truck. We do not travel with any water in our Black, Grey or Fresh Water tanks so even fully loaded we are still well within specs for this trucks towing capacity. The brake control on the truck was set to 5. Faricy Boys Ford in Canon City Colorado, verified that a recall had been completed and worked on the truck for 3 full days, testing many things including tailgate malfunctions and miscellaneous electrical systems trying to replicate the problem, no dealer has been able to replicate the problem. They finally replaced all the brakes and rotors as well as flushing the brake system. I respectfully requested that Ford Motor Company assign the review of this case to a regional Customer Service Manager / Engineer to review the complete repair history of this vehicle, via registered mail. We haven heard anything yet. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Subject: Safety Defect Complaint – Sudden 10R80 Transmission Failure in 2018 Ford F-150 Dear NHTSA, I am reporting a serious safety issue with my 2018 Ford F-150 equipped with the 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission. The transmission failed completely at only 93,000 miles, well before Ford’s first recommended fluid change at 150,000 miles. While driving, the transmission suddenly shifted from 3rd gear directly to 7th gear, skipping intermediates. This caused severe loss of power (“gutless”) or abrupt deceleration nearly to a halt. The erratic behavior created multiple dangerous close calls in traffic. I was able to get it to a Ford dealer. They confirmed total transmission failure and referenced a Technical Service Bulletin identifying a known component (CDF clutch drum/hub) that commonly fails due to excessive heat and inadequate durability. Replacement was quoted at approximately $10,000. I contacted Ford Customer Service, described the safety risk of sudden unpredictable shifts, cited the known defect in their technical documentation, and requested assistance. Ford declined any support or remedy. This premature failure, combined with erratic shifting and loss of vehicle control, poses a clear risk of crashes. I urge NHTSA to investigate the 10R80 transmission issues in 2017–2020 F-150s and require Ford to issue a recall or extended remedies to protect public safety. Thank you for your attention. I have provided repair records, dealer notes, and further details below. Sincerely, [XXX] VIN: [XXX] Phone: [XXX] Email: [XXX] Date: 6/22/2026 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V237000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the Park(P), Reverse(R), and Drive(D) and gears 1-6 lights were consistently flashing. The vehicle revved at high speeds and unexpectedly downshifted; however, the contact could not determine what gear the transmission downshifted to due to the constant flashing lights. The dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The dealer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure was approximately 110,000.

While I was driving down the road and while I was driving through a parking lot, my transmission downshifted without me touching the gearshift. I almost hit a car in the parking lot when it happened and I had to slam my brakes when I was on a main road. Had I been going at a faster speed or in a more busy location I could have easily lost control and hit something or been hit. I never saw any warning lights come on, and there were no indicators that this was about to happen. After my truck did that, it wouldn't start the following morning, and it still hasn't started. My truck was towed to an independent service center and they diagnosed it as the molded leadframe needed replaced. I looked it up and Ford currently has this repair listed under their Customer Satisfaction Program campaign 19N01, but my truck is out of that vehicle mileage and time range. From doing basic research, I've seen that this is a very common problem with these F150s. The vehicle has been inspected by myself and the independent service center, but is available for inspection upon request.

- #11745962June 23, 2026SERVICE BRAKES, EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The driver's side rear light is full of moisture and some water. It is available for inspection. The Ford dealership in Beeville Texas Coastal Bend Ford inspected it already and informed me that it would cost $1,400 to replace and that it was only going to get worse. They also informed me that Ford allows a certain percentage of moisture and water to be in there safely. When you see the pictures this is definitely unacceptable and unsafe. This is causing the reverse lights to flicker intermittent. The moisture accumulation inside the lights can result in inoperative or flickering reverse lamp function. Inoperative reverse lamps may reduce the awareness of other motorists or road users of the driver's intention to operate the vehicle in reverse gear increasing the risk of injury or crash. I bought the vehicle from a Ford dealership in Austin Texas less than 10 days ago. I reported it to them and they stated it wouldn't be covered under warranty. The best assessment in my opinion of cause is going to be microcracks in the outer lens. Because my truck is a 2023 Ford F-150 King Ranch, and there is a known recall for the same issue for 2022-2023 Lariat and Platinum models, so this can't be a coincidence. Refer NHTSA recall number 23V-418

On 3 separate occasions while driving at highway speeds, the transmission has rapidly moved from 10th gear to 1st resulting in a rapid decline in speed. Additionally, this vehicle loses power between 3rd and 5th gear, resulting in hesitation that has nearly caused accidents on two occasions.
