The tailgate on our truck keeps automatically coming down and up on its own. It doesn’t matter if the truck is in park or drive. It doesn’t matter if it’s locked or unlocked. It will do it several times in a row. It will go half way back up and then just slam down. Unfortunately we didn’t know this was an issue as we just bought the truck a few days before we noticed it happening and it fell down and hit something in our garage causing a dent and multiple scratches as it happened overnight without us being aware of the issue. It happens when I’m going down the road, which means I cannot use the bed of my truck as things could fall out. Also, I’m limited on where I can park it. We called GM and a dealership and there’s nothing they can do since it’s not recalled unless we pay to have it fixed. So now we have a new to us truck that’s now dented because of this issue. There is no warning it’s going to happen. After the tailgate comes down I get a notification saying tailgate down when I’m driving. This happens everyday, several times a day and we’re having to avoid driving it when possible due to this issue.

The truck suddenly and completely shut down while I was driving on the highway, with no warning signs before the total power loss. This unexpected failure put me in a dangerous situation. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealership where it was purchased, and after inspection, the dealer informed me that the engine had completely failed and now requires a full replacement.

The contact stated that while driving at 70 MPH, the vehicle began to lose power upon depression of the accelerator pedal with the "Service Parking Brake", and "Service ESC" messages displayed, and check engine warning light was illuminated. The diagnostic test showed that the engine lifter had collapsed and damaged the cam shaft. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and the manufacturer agreed to cover 10% of the cost for repair. The vehicle remained in the possession of the dealer unrepaired. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

Steering wheel power assist became inoperable when turning into a store parking space. If the steering assist had failed while at higher speed and/or in other conditions the results may have resulted in a potentially life threatening situation. There was no prior messages or symptoms the problem prior to the event. It was discovered that the GM service bulletin 23-NA-201 includes my vehicle as prone to the failure due to corrosion of the body grounding straps. The vehicle trouble lights also acted in accordance to the description in that same service bulletin. The grounding straps were found to be badly corroded to the point of fragility. Grounding was replaced and the vehicle trouble lamp display returned to the normal. The steering assist in the vehicle then returned to normal operation with no further occurrences.

When I am driving my vehicle and I pull in to park, I put the gear shift into park and shut the vehichle off and a light comes on in the dash and says shift to park. And the vehichle will not shut down for several minutes after this light comes on. It also feels like there is a hesitation in the transmission at times after I start the vehicle and start driving.

When the vehicle is completely stopped, shifted to the park position, ignition turned off, the motor will stop running but an error come up on the dash " shift to park" and the horn start chirping and the instrument panel, radio etc. will not shut off even though it is in park .I have read this is a huge safety concern with my model truck and many other Chevrolet vehicles but I'm not sue if it's resulted in any injuries or damage. The GM customer service rep I spoke to said to file this with you NHTSA so that if there is enough of a safety concern or defective part problem a recall will be issues. thank you for your time [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact changed the transmission fluid; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was recurring. The contact parked the vehicle, and the vehicle was no longer driven due to the safety concern. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (POWER TRAIN); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.

on or about [XXX] while driving through Olathe Kansas, the torque converter and subsequently the transmission on my 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 failed while driving in heavy traffic. While navigating to a safe place outside the high-speed traffic corridor, the truck would run at approximately 3000 RPM at a speed of 40MPH. By sheer luck, we were not involved in a traffic accident. Replacement cost of the transmission unit was $7907.88 and $800 for a rental truck while the dealer replaced the transmission. Truck with 32,496 miles began to shift in a strange manner, the engine then shutoff with no warning while traveling at highway speeds. The truck shifted into neutral and I was able to coast to the side of the road. I had the truck towed to the dealer and they found that the oil pump had failed and that it spun the 6 and 7 rod end bearings and the number 4 main bearing. The truck has the L87 6.2 liter V8. The engine stopped on 12/29/2024 and the truck was towed to the dealer. The truck was at the dealer until 3/28/2025. The truck was at the dealer for this amount of time due the GM having a national back-order on the engine.

At 19k miles the transmission had a shifting problem and went into limp mode forcing a deceleration while on a highway. Had to unhook the battery and hook it back up to clear the code to get to a safe point for towing. Had to do this 3 times. Once at the dealer they could not recreate the problem. One week later it went into limp mode again. Took it to the deal and was informed that the valve body in the transmission would need to be replace. There is a supply shortage on parts and I am now without a truck for who knows how long.
