ENGINE
The engine oil cooling system failed on my 2021 Alfa Romeo Stelvio 2.0T at approximately 45,000 miles. The failure caused engine oil to contaminate the engine coolant system, creating a brown/milky “milkshake” substance inside the coolant reservoir and throughout the cooling system. The dealership diagnosed the issue as an internal oil cooler/oil filter housing failure. The contamination affected multiple cooling system components, and the dealership estimated approximately $8,300 in repairs, including replacement of multiple cooling system parts. The manufacturer offered partial goodwill assistance toward the repair cost. Prior to diagnosis, the vehicle displayed low coolant and low oil symptoms. I had to add approximately one quart of engine oil. I am concerned this premature failure could create a safety risk due to possible overheating or engine failure while driving. The vehicle had been maintained normally and had not previously overheated. The issue was confirmed by an authorized Alfa Romeo dealership.

Fuel delivery system – specifically the low-pressure fuel pump failed, causing poor engine performance and ultimately requiring replacement. The repair was completed by an authorized Alfa Romeo dealer. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The vehicle began running rough and could have stalled unexpectedly, which presents a safety risk if it occurs in traffic or at highway speeds. Loss of engine performance can reduce the driver’s ability to accelerate or maintain speed, increasing the risk of a collision. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The issue was diagnosed and confirmed by an authorized Alfa Romeo dealership, which replaced the fuel pump under extended warranty. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? The vehicle was inspected and repaired by an authorized Alfa Romeo dealer. No inspection was conducted by police or insurance representatives, as no accident occurred. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The vehicle exhibited rough running conditions along with repeated safety warning lights over a period of approximately two weeks prior to the failure. The warnings became more frequent leading up to the repair, indicating a worsening condition. Given the nature of the failure and its similarity to issues identified in prior model years, I request that this matter be evaluated for a potential defect trend and considered for further investigation.

THERE IS NOT AN ALFA ROMEO DEALERSHIP IN OKLAHOMA AND THE NEAREST ALFA ROMEO DEALERSHIP IS LOCATED IN PLANO, TX. MANUFACTURER WILL NOT ALLOW DAVID STANLEY, CHRYSLER, JEEP, DODGE, RAM TO PERFORM THE SERVICE, EVENTHOUGH THEY ARE OWNED BY THE SAME COMPANY. ALFA ROMEO IS STATING THAT I WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THE AUTOMOBILE TOWED TO THE PLANO, TX ALFA DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE ME WITH A LOANER CAR WHILE MY CAR IS BEING SERVICED IN PLANO, TX.

I got my car has a lease July 2023. After notifying the sales rep that I will be taking my car to Alaska, he reassured me that Lithia dealership will be able to service my car. When I call to get my car worked on, no Lithia dealer can help me. Alfa Romeo customer service has confirmed they will NOT provide any assistance with me getting my recall fixed due to being in the state of Alaska. Even though I was promised Lithia would cover my type of vehicle. My car is my daily driver and now I have a safety issue. I’m terrified to drive. I feel completely unsafe in what I thought was my dream car. Alfa Romeo would not even reimburse if shipped my car to Seattle or I drove it there myself. I would be scared to have the car break down and I cannot fix it

POWER TRAIN, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
On November 23, 2024 at around 12:20. While at a complete stop at a stoplight with my foot on the brake, my car literally launched/thrusted forward with such momentum I thought I was rear ended by another car. The thrust was so significant it sent the car three to four feet forward. My son and I were in shock, it scared us to death. This could have resulted in a crash. I immediately reported the issue to Alfa Romeo Customer care and the service department as a critical concern. The car was towed into Alfa Service department to investigate and resolve along with number other issues with the car however, their response to this critical issue was “we can’t replicate the issue” therefore can’t fix it! They also refuse to buy back my new 2024 Stelvio as a “lemon” stating there’s no safety issue and the other issues can’t be replicated! This issue is critical and needs addressed, I’m afraid for my safety.

The back up camera has failed to display on the radio screen when the vehicle is placed in reverse on multiple occasions. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio has poor rear visibility due to a small rear window placed at a relatively shallow angle making the backup camera a necessary safety feature to safely operate the vehicle. The problem was reported to the dealer as part of another issue related to the radio locking up / rebooting due to software issues with a telematic module. Sometimes the radio will display an error message immediately when the car starts and then go to a black screen and sometimes the issue happens without warning. Turning off the vehicle and letting it sit will sometimes resolve the issue. I have offered to provide video evidence to the dealer and manufacturer but was told it was not necessary. The radio was replaced but the issue persists after the radio replacement.

A recall was issued for a disrupted connector on the front buckle switch hall effect sensor that may cause the air bag to not deploy during a crash. This seems to be an important safety concern. However all dealers in my area (Los Angeles) either do not have the part(s) to repair the issue and do not have a timeline on when the part will be available, or have a waiting list of >7 months due to taking only 5 recall cars per week. Both scenarios seems unacceptable, particularly when the recall is related to a safety concern, and fall under the category " dealer fails to remedy the defect within a reasonable time". I trust something should be done with the manufaturer to get more parts to all dealerships, and to force dealers to fix more than 5 cars per week.

THE CAR DRIVES ERRATIC (SUSPENSION), TIRES SET AT MANUFACTURER PRESSURE DRIVES ALL OVER THE ROAD "UNSTABLE" CAR JUST STOPS ON HIGHWAYS AT HIGH SPEED PLACING MY LIFE IN DANGER, HISTORY OF STOPPING AT BUSY INTERSECTIONS, ACCELERATION ISSUES, ELECTRICAL ISSUES, ENGINE ON/OFF SWITCH DO NOT WORK ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER STATED WARRANTY, THE CAR LITERALLY ACCELERATES AT HIGHER SPEEDS THAN WHAT'S DISPLAYED ON DASH AND EXPECTED TO. MORE WHEN IDLED. THE COMBUSTION SYSTEM MAKE HUMMING NOISES WHILE FOOT ON BRAKES CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DISPLAYS. GEAR SHIFT DO NOT DISPLAY DRIVE MODES (SCARY; CAR DRIVES ERRATIC OUT OF CONTROL). THE CAR IS A LEMON! TOO MANY SAFETY ISSUES. NEED MONEY BACK ASAP! COUNTLESS SOFTWARE UPDATES DISPLAY 5-10 TIMES DAILY. ALL EXPLAINED OCCURRED AT TIME OF PURCHASE THROUGH CURRENT DATE. The rear camera system is inoperative. The vehicle was brought to the dealer on 3/25/24, 5/24/24, and 6/3/24 and the dealer has been unable to repair and conform the rear camera system under warranty. To date (as of 6/1/24) the vehicle has been with the Alfa Romeo dealer for 22 days on three separate occasions and they have escalated the issue internally to Alfa engineers as the local dealer has been unable to resolve the issue. The rear camera system is a safety device required on all vehicles in the U.S. Service records available on request.

The rearview camera system stopped functioning on about 2/29/2024. At around the same time, the front proximity sensor began to intermittently falsely indicate an object in the vehicle's path when there is no object, including when the vehicle is traveling at speed in the roadway with no other vehicles around. To date, this has not caused the vehicle to brake improperly. We purchased the car approximately three months ago. It is still under the manufacturer's original warranty. Note, the rear camera has been required by law since May 2018. The vehicle has a service appointment scheduled to resolve the problems. We anticipate that the camera issue and front proximity sensor problem will be resolved under warranty; however, the purpose of this complaint was to document the onset of the issues should the manufacturer fail their legal obligations under applicable state and federal laws.
