Symptoms

Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions

To diagnose the rattling noise, a technician will first confirm the customer complaint. The diagnostic procedure involves a test drive where the climate control system is manipulated to reproduce the noise.

1. The technician will access the main climate controls screen via the touchscreen.
2. Air flow will be set to face-level vents, directed to a centered and straight-ahead position.
3. The climate system will then be turned off.
4. During a test drive, if a rattling noise is detected, the technician will adjust the air flow direction to the outboard sides of the vehicle, then turn off climate control.
5. This process is repeated, moving the air flow back to the center/upward position, and then again with air flow directed completely downward.
6. The technician will compare the rattling noise levels across these different air flow settings.

If the rattling noise persists regardless of air flow adjustments, further diagnosis beyond this bulletin is required. However, if the noise diminishes when the air flow is adjusted, the bulletin applies, and the affected air vent(s) will be replaced.
