American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (AHM) is currently investigating an oil leak concern affecting certain 2022-2023 Honda Civic 1.5L Turbo and 2023 Honda Civic 2.0L vehicles. The manufacturer is seeking to collect specific parts from vehicles exhibiting a Honda Civic head cover leak to better understand the root cause of this condition.

This initiative is crucial for Honda to gather data before any repair attempts are made. By collecting these parts, Honda aims to develop a comprehensive solution for the head cover gasket oil leak issue.

Symptoms of a Head Cover Oil Leak

The primary symptom of this issue is an oil leak originating from the head cover gasket area. Owners or technicians may notice visible oil seepage or drips from the engine's head cover. This can be identified during routine maintenance or if a customer reports an oil leak.

Qualifying Conditions for Honda's Parts Collection Program

Honda is interested in collecting parts only if the vehicle meets specific criteria. Owners should be aware of these conditions to determine if their vehicle might qualify for the program related to the Honda Civic head cover leak:

• For 1.5L Turbo models (EX, Touring, Si): The vehicle's manufactured date on the driver's door jamb must be after April 2022. Vehicles manufactured before this date do not qualify.
• For 2.0L models (LX & Sport): The vehicle's manufactured date on the driver's door jamb must be after June 2023. Vehicles manufactured before this date do not qualify.
• There must be a confirmed oil leak from the head cover area. This applies to both 1.5L and 2.0L engines.
• Previous repair attempts are acceptable, provided the cylinder head cover or gasket has not been replaced.
• The vehicle must not have been involved in a collision.

What Owners Should Do

If your 2022-2023 Honda Civic exhibits an oil leak from the head cover area and you believe it meets the qualifying conditions, you should contact your local authorized Honda dealership. The dealership will need to contact Honda's Technical Information & Support (TIS) group for further instructions.

It is important that no repair attempts are made on the head cover gasket or cylinder head cover before Honda has had the opportunity to collect the parts. This ensures that the components are in their original condition for analysis. The dealership will provide specific information to TIS, including your vehicle's VIN, mileage, and photos of the leaking area.
