Repair Procedure Summary

The correction for the BMW P15A3 MIL fault involves a software update to the DME control unit. The procedure is as follows:

1. Vehicle Preparation: Connect a battery charger to the vehicle and connect the vehicle to the Integrated Service Technical Application (ISTA) system.
2. Measures Plan: Determine the necessary measures plan within ISTA.
3. Programming and Encoding: Accept and execute the entire measures plan to program and encode the control units. This includes activating any necessary functions.
4. Rework List: Follow any instructions on the rework list provided by ISTA.

The programming solution is included in ISTA 4.51.1x with an installed service data package. The required I-level versions for the update are S18A-24-11-550 or later, or S15A-24-11-550 or later, both available from ISTA 4.51.1x, released since January 17, 2025. ISTA will automatically reprogram and code all programmable control modules to the latest software.

Required Tools or Parts

To complete this recall, technicians will use the ISTA 4.51.1x diagnostic system. After the repair, an "Emissions Recall Campaign Completed Label" (part number SD 92-435) must be affixed to the right (passenger) rear side of the hood, near the windshield. For California-registered vehicles, an executed orange "Vehicle Emission Recall - Proof of Correction" certificate (part number SD92-084) must be provided to the customer. • 00 78 504 (1 FRU) or 00 78 004 (1 FRU) if the vehicle is already at the target integration level and no repair is necessary, performed in conjunction with another campaign/repair.
