BMW has issued its latest software update, the 2025-11 Remote Software Upgrade, as detailed in the BMW Release Notes 11/25. This significant update brings a range of new features and quality improvements designed to enhance the driving experience for owners of the 2026 BMW 330i. It ensures that your vehicle's existing functions are brought up to the latest technical standards, incorporating feedback and addressing various aspects of vehicle operation.
Key Features of the 2025-11 Remote Software Upgrade
Automatic Start/Stop Enhancements
Owners can now activate or deactivate the Automatic Start/Stop Function more quickly. This can be done by holding down the direct access button for driving settings in the center console or by using the voice command, “Hey BMW, deactivate engine start/stop”. A confirmation pop-up will appear on the control display, and the function will remain deactivated until the next engine start.
NACS Charging Station Support
This upgrade enables BMW vehicles to charge at stations utilizing the North American Charging Standard (NACS), including Tesla Superchargers. This means access to any networks which use this standard. To use NACS chargers, an additional adapter is required. Owners should check their My BMW app Message Center for updates on the availability of BMW-approved adapters.
Charging Stations POI Filter
The navigation system now includes a new “Nearby” filter for charging stations. This allows drivers to filter charging stations by nearby points of interest such as cafés, restaurants, or supermarkets. To use this feature, open “Filter options” in the search menu and select the desired preferences. The filter automatically resets after each search.
Improved Vehicle Apps Interface
The “Vehicle” tab within the “All Apps” menu on the BMW control display has been restructured for clearer organization. It now focuses on key settings like lights, climate control, doors, and windows, with all other functions still accessible under “All Apps.”
More Responsive Smart Opener
The Smart Opener feature, which allows hands-free tailgate operation, has been improved for greater precision and reliability. The tailgate will now respond more accurately to a foot kick under the cargo area. To activate, move your foot dynamically back and forth at the center of the bumper, then place it down. Your BMW flashes to confirm, and the tailgate will open automatically. This “Kick-to-Open feature” works when the Digital Key or vehicle key is present.
Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) Updates
The Intelligent Personal Assistant (IPA) receives two new voices, a new female and male option, offering faster and more accurate responses to “Hey BMW.” Owners can select their preferred voice in the Personal Assistant menu. Following feedback, the IPA will now default to the female voice after this update; if a male voice was previously selected, it will switch automatically. Both male and female voices remain available and can be changed at any time within the My BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant app. A required language package will download automatically after the update.
General Quality Improvements
This 2025-11 Remote Software Upgrade also includes general quality improvements and error corrections. These updates are designed to bring the BMW system up to date, rectify various errors, and prevent potential security gaps, contributing to an improved overall driving experience. BMW recommends this update for all eligible vehicles.
Important Considerations for Owners
Owners should be aware of several important points regarding this 2026 BMW 330i remote software upgrade:
- System Restarts and Messages: During the update process, control messages, such as those indicating “powertrain malfunctions,” may appear due to system restarts. If these messages persist on subsequent trips, owners should contact their service center.
- Charging Interruption: For BMW Plug-in Hybrids and electric vehicles, charging processes might be interrupted and may not automatically resume if the update is performed while the vehicle is charging.
- Modifications and Settings: Unapproved conversions, retrofits, engine tuning, or special coding applied to the vehicle may be lost or could cause issues after the upgrade. BMW of North America, LLC and its service centers are not liable for any resulting damage from such modifications. Additionally, privacy settings may revert to factory defaults after installation, so owners should check and adjust them as needed.
- Driver Assistance Systems: It is crucial to remember that driver assistance systems do not replace the driver's responsibility while driving.
