2023-2026 Audi Rear Lid Opens When Cleaning TSB

Symptoms

Owners of 2023-2026 Audi vehicles may notice the rear lid (trunk) opening or closing without warning while cleaning the vehicle. This often occurs when using a high-pressure cleaner on the rear of the vehicle or vacuuming the luggage compartment. This unintended Audi rear lid opening can be inconvenient and potentially damage the lid or its contents.

Technical Background

Audi has identified that the unintentional Audi rear lid opening is typically triggered by the vehicle's sensor-controlled luggage compartment unlocking system. Strong jets of water or steam from a high-pressure cleaner, or even a person's feet moving under the bumper, can inadvertently activate these sensors. This mimics the intended action of opening the trunk hands-free.

Owner Action

If you experience an unintended Audi rear lid opening during cleaning, Audi recommends the following actions to prevent this:

• Consult your Owner's Manual: Before washing your vehicle, refer to your Owner's Manual for instructions on how to temporarily disable the sensor-controlled luggage compartment unlocking feature or the Keyless Access function. This will prevent accidental activation.
• Avoid carrying the vehicle key: When working near the rear of the vehicle, especially during cleaning, it is advisable to leave your vehicle key away from the car. The presence of the key can contribute to the unintentional sensor activation.
