• Browser Compatibility: When downloading the necessary files for this procedure, do not use Internet Explorer. Technicians must use modern browsers such as Edge, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari to ensure proper download functionality.
• Workshop Tool: The USB flash drive containing the navigation data should be retained as a workshop tool. It is not necessary to contact Technical Assistance Center (TAC) or re-download the data if the USB drive has already been prepared. Future navigation database updates will be installed automatically online after the initial installation, and the vehicle does not need to remain in the service bay or be supervised during the update process.
• Recall 91DZ: If this TSB is performed in conjunction with recall 91DZ, the warranty instructions provided in this bulletin do not apply, as reimbursement is covered under the scope of that recall.

Repair Procedure Summary

The repair involves downloading the current MIB3 Navigation database and reinstalling it using a formatted USB drive. Here is a summary of the steps:

1. Download the latest MIB3 Navigation database files from the provided link to a PC.
2. Locate a 64GB or larger USB drive and format it to "NTFS" file system. This step will erase all data on the drive.
3. Use 7-zip software to extract the downloaded NAV files. The extracted folder should contain "Data" and "Meta" folders, among other files.
4. Copy the extracted files directly to the root of the NTFS-formatted USB drive. Do not place them in a single folder on the USB drive.
5. Safely eject the USB drive from the computer.
6. In the vehicle, use ODIS diagnostic software to perform a guided fault finding test plan: "Self test >> Diagnostic capable system >> 005F - Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- (MIB2+ or MIB3) >> 005F - Information Electronics 1, functions / 005F - Basic Setting >> Erase navigation databank." This step prepares the vehicle for the new database.
7. End the diagnostic session and allow the vehicle to enter a sleep cycle.
8. Insert the prepared USB drive into the vehicle.
9. Navigate to the MMI settings section: "MMI Settings >> select system maintenance >> software update."
10. The software update should now be available and can be initiated to reinstall the navigation database.
