This Technical Service Bulletin, 96 23 82 2056019/2, was issued on February 14, 2023. It supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 96 number 19-43, dated August 30, 2019. The revision includes an updated header with added models and model years, and a revised service description to include Q4 and e-tron GT models.

Symptoms

Owners of various 2010-2023 Audi models may experience an Audi anti-theft alarm malfunction in one of two ways:

• "The anti-theft alarm went off for no reason."
• "The anti-theft alarm did not go off."

It is important to note that workshop findings indicate that these issues occur without any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) being stored in the vehicle's system. This means standard diagnostic scans may not immediately reveal the cause.

Diagnostic Procedure Overview

When an Audi anti-theft alarm malfunction is reported, technicians are instructed to investigate the vehicle's measurement value blocks. This process helps to determine the exact cause and timing of the alarm activation. The procedure involves accessing specific diagnosis addresses within the vehicle's control units, which vary depending on the Audi model.

Model-Specific Diagnostic Information

To accurately diagnose the Audi anti-theft alarm malfunction, technicians must consult specific diagnosis addresses and measurement value blocks unique to different Audi models and platforms. This allows for the retrieval of detailed alarm history data.

A3 (8P) and Q3 (8U)

For these models, technicians should access Diagnosis address 09. Reasons for alarm activation, including the date and time, can be found in measurement value blocks 18 – 23.

A3 (8V) and Q3 (F3)

For the A3 (8V) and Q3 (F3), the diagnostic information is also located at Diagnosis address 09. The reasons for activation, along with the date and time, are available in the measurement value labeled "alarm history data."

Q4 (F4)

For the Q4 (F4), Diagnosis address 0019 should be accessed. The reasons why the alarm was triggered, including date and time, are found in the measured values under "Anti-theft alarm history data for alarm trigger."

A4 (8K), A5 (8T), A5 Cabriolet (8F), Q5 (8R), A6 (4G), A7 (4G), A8 (4H), and R8 (4S)

These models require accessing Diagnosis address 46. The reasons for activation, including date and time, are located in measurement value blocks 18 – 24. A key diagnostic tip for measurement value block 18 states that if the trigger reason is "Alarm triggered by ILM," it means the alarm siren was activated by a command from the convenience control unit J393. The actual reason for the alarm can then be found by examining measurement values 21-24.

TT (8J) model year 2010 - 2014

For the TT (8J) models from 2010 to 2014, Diagnosis address 09 is used. Reasons for activation, including date and time, are found in measurement value blocks 18 – 23.

TT (FV)

For the TT (FV), Diagnosis address 09 is also used. The reasons for activation, including date and time, are found in the measurement value "alarm history data."

A6 (4F) and Q7 (4L)

These models require accessing Diagnosis address 46. The reasons for activation are specifically found in measurement value block 16.

A4 (8W), A5 (F5), A6 (4A), A7 (4K), A8 (4N), Q5 (FY), Q7/Q8 (4M), e-tron quattro (GE), e-tron GT (F8)

For this extensive list of models, Diagnosis address 46 is the relevant point of access. Reasons for activation, including date and time, can be found in several measurement values:

• "history data of anti-theft protection"
• "panic alarm"
• "anti-theft alarm history data for alarm triggering"

If the diagnostic data shows "Alarm triggered by external system" for "anti-theft alarm history data for alarm triggering," it indicates the alarm siren was activated by the convenience control unit J393. The true reason for the alarm going off can then be found in the "history data of anti-theft protection."

R8 (42) from MY 2010

For R8 (42) models from model year 2010 onwards, Diagnosis address 09 is used. Reasons for activation, including date and time, are found in measurement value blocks 18 - 23. Similar to other models, if measurement value block 18 shows "Alarm triggered by ILM," it points to the convenience control unit J393, and the real cause is in measurement values 21-24.
