2019-2023 Audi Connect User Management and SOS Function TSB

Owners of 2019-2023 Audi vehicles may encounter problems with their Audi Connect services, specifically the 'User management' option appearing greyed out or the SOS and Roadside assistance functions being inoperable. These symptoms are typically linked to the vehicle's telematics system remaining in transport mode, triggering specific diagnostic trouble codes.

This Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 90 22 73 2052299/5, issued on June 29, 2022, supersedes TSB Group 90 number 22-46 dated February 22, 2022. It provides a detailed procedure for technicians to resolve these communication issues.

Symptoms

If your 2019-2023 Audi is affected by this issue, you might observe the following:

• The Audi Connect "User management" screen is greyed out, preventing the completion of key user pairing (as shown in Figure 1 of the original document).
• The SOS emergency button is red or flashing red.
• Pressing the SOS button displays the message: "Your subscription for the emergency call service has expired. For information on renewal options, please contact your Audi dealer or visit the Audi Website" (as shown in Figure 2 of the original document).

These symptoms indicate a problem with the vehicle's communication module, often related to its operational status.

Fault Codes / DTCs

Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions

Starting with model year 2019, Audi vehicles are equipped with a new telematics module known as the "Control Module for Emergency Call Module and Communication Unit, J949," also referred to as the Connectivity Box or "ConBox." This module, with diagnostic address 0075 and PR Code IW3, handles key user pairing, remote services, and SOS functions.

Crucially, this new ConBox module requires the VAS 6154 wireless diagnostic head for proper diagnosis and activation due to its updated diagnostic protocol. If an older diagnostic tool, such as the VAS 5054, is used, it cannot properly communicate with the ConBox. This failure to communicate will prevent the ConBox from exiting transport mode (also known as Flight mode), leading to the storage of DTC P169A00 and U13EB00. Additionally, if the VAS 6154 is not used, the gateway module may set DTC U142100, indicating a communication issue with the emergency call module.
