2022-2025 Audi A5/S4/S5 Continental Tire Recall 44CT

Why This Recall Matters

Continental Tire the Americas, LLC (CTA) has initiated a voluntary safety recall, identified as 44CT, for specific passenger tires. These tires were found to have a non-compliance condition where their design allows for higher flexing in the tread shoulder, leading to excessive heat buildup. This condition can cause the tires to develop a belt edge separation.

If a belt edge separation occurs, the tires could experience a partial or full tread/belt loss. This significantly increases the risk of a crash, which could result in serious injury or even death. Additionally, affected tires may exhibit localized tread wear in the tread shoulders, excessive vibrations, and noise, signaling a potential issue.

What's Being Recalled

This recall, designated as 44CT, involves Continental passenger tires that were supplied as original equipment, sold as replacement tires, or are currently in dealer inventories. Audi has applied the code 44CT to help dealers identify vehicles equipped with these affected tires.

Important Warnings for Dealers and Owners

Federal law strictly prohibits dealers from delivering any new motor vehicle or new or used item of motor vehicle equipment, including tires, that are subject to a safety or compliance recall until the defect is remedied. This means that vehicles cannot be sold or leased until the necessary repairs are completed.

For pre-owned vehicles in dealer inventory, dealers are also prohibited from delivering any vehicle involved in a safety or compliance recall until the defect has been remedied. Owners should be aware that dealers are obligated to perform these repairs before any sale or lease transaction.

Manufacturer's Remedy

Continental Tire will be notifying end consumers and car owners identified as having affected tires. The repair became available on September 13, 2024. All tires subject to this Audi A5 Continental Tire recall will be replaced free of charge to the owner.

Repair Procedure Summary

To address the Continental Tire Safety Recall 44CT, dealers are instructed to inspect all four tires on affected vehicles. If any tire requires replacement, the ordering process will be handled through the dealer's tire vendor, distributor, or a representative of the tire manufacturer.

Dealers must refer to ELSA and the Service References tool in Elsa2Go for complete repair and claiming instructions. It is crucial for dealers to check their daily campaign open inventory report or OMD for affected vehicles in inventory and to repair every affected inventory vehicle before delivery to consumers.
