• If a part is found to be in need of replacement while performing this campaign and the affected part is still under warranty, a separate claim should be submitted using the same repair order. If the affected part is out of warranty, dealers must submit a Prior Approval request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work.

Repair Procedure Summary

To address the potential Hyundai Tucson transmission issue, dealers will follow a specific inspection and replacement procedure. This process involves several key steps:

1. Vehicle Preparation: The vehicle is raised on a lift, and the bolts securing the undercover are removed to gain access to the transmission. Technicians will then inspect the area near the transmission torque mount, as shown in the provided diagrams.
2. Casting Mark Inspection: The technician will carefully inspect the transmission casting for a machine mark located just below the QR code. This mark is crucial for determining the transmission's condition.
3. Documentation (STUI): Using the STUI system, technicians must take a photo of the casting mark. This photo needs to include a measurement of the mark's distance from the bottom of the tab, along with the last 6 digits of the vehicle's VIN and the date of repair written on a piece of paper. This photo is then uploaded to STUI for validation.
4. Condition Determination: The transmission's condition (GOOD or NG - "Not Good," meaning it must be replaced) is determined based on the appearance and measurement of this machine mark. The marks differ depending on the transmission production lines.
   • Transmission NG (Must be replaced): If the mark is between 0 and 3.5 mm (0-9/64 inches) from the bottom of the tab AND the stamping mark appears round, the transmission is considered defective and must be replaced.
   • Transmission GOOD (Replacement not needed):
     • If the mark is between 0 and 3.5 mm (0-9/64 inches) from the bottom of the tab, but the stamping mark is not perfectly round (e.g., elongated), the transmission is considered acceptable, and no replacement is needed.
     • If the mark is between 4.0 and 8.0 mm (5/32-5/16 inches) from the bottom of the tab, and the stamping mark is round, the transmission is also considered acceptable, and no replacement is needed.
5. Reinstallation: Once the inspection and any necessary replacement are complete, the undercover is reinstalled, and the vehicle is returned to the customer.
