This directive is reinforced by a visual warning on the tools themselves, stating: "DO NOT USE TOOLS WITH LASER MARKINGS."

This warning is crucial because the laser markings on these tools create a rough surface. This roughness can cause damage to new A/C compressor seals during the installation process. Such damage can lead to a premature Honda A/C compressor seal leak, resulting in a loss of oil and/or refrigerant from the vehicle's air conditioning system.

Understanding the Honda A/C Compressor Seal Leak Issue

The specific tool identified in this notice is the GUIDE, AC COMP SEAL 07AAG-5AAA100. This guide is a component of the larger 6CVC SEAL REPLACEMENT KIT, 07AAC-5AAA1Z0, which was distributed to Honda dealerships. The problem arises from the manufacturing process where the tool number and date are laser-marked directly onto a critical surface of the guide.

When this laser-marked tool is used to install a new A/C compressor seal, the abrasive texture of the markings can abrade or tear the delicate seal material. This compromises the integrity of the seal, leading to a potential Honda A/C compressor seal leak. The consequence is a loss of refrigerant, which impairs the A/C system's cooling performance, and potentially an oil leak, which can further damage the compressor.

This issue affects A/C compressor shaft seal leak repairs for specific models and engine types. The corresponding Service Bulletins are 23-012, which covers 2016-2021 Civic models with 1.5T, 2.0, and 2.0T engines, and 23-015, addressing 2017-2021 CR-V models.

Due to this critical tool defect, Honda has placed the related Service Bulletins, specifically 23-012 and 23-015, on hold. This means that dealerships cannot proceed with A/C compressor shaft seal leak repairs using the affected tools until replacement guides are available. This process ensures that all defective tools are removed from circulation and proper repairs can resume.
