2022-2024 Audi A3/S3/RS3 Airbag Module DTCs

Symptoms

Owners of 2022-2024 Audi A3, S3, and RS3 vehicles may encounter issues where the airbag control module test plans are not completing. This problem is typically identified during Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) or other diagnostic work, such as during the performance of Safety Recall 6812. When the airbag control module (-J234-) attempts a configuration, it may not respond correctly, causing the configuration to fail. This can also prevent the successful completion of adaptations for seat belt control modules after replacement, and hinder the execution of Safety Recall 6812 via ODIS.

When the airbag control module test plans fail, one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) may be stored in the airbag control module, -J234- (address word 0015):

This procedure, detailed in TSB 69 23 99 2070322/4, requires the use of the ODIS diagnostic system with DoIP (Diagnostics over Internet Protocol) communication. Technicians must follow the instructions in TSB 2011732 for Software Version Management (SVM) operations.

The process includes updating the airbag control module using SVM action code 15A011. After the software installation is complete, an ignition cycle must be performed. Finally, the diagnostic test plan(s) that previously failed should be run again, and the diagnostic session concluded.

To perform this software update, technicians will need a VAS 6160/VAS 6150 tester equipped with the current version of ODIS (Windows 10).
