I bought this car on 8/30/24. This car has the ability to turn off the lane keeping aid, BUT it defaults to steering assistance which can't be turned off. I was not aware of this before purchasing. This feature is a big problem and should be removed or allow the driver to deactivate. If I am driving and move out of my lane to avoid a pedestrian or stopped vehicle, the car automatically detects the solid line on either side of the car and steers me back toward whatever obstacle I'm trying avoid. This is seriously unsafe to be steered toward a pedestrian. I should not have to fight my car for control. I went to the dealer 9/10/24, and they confirmed that the system is working as designed and the steering assistance is supposed to take over.

August 23rd, 2024, the car started hesitating when gas was applied. The transmission light came on, then the parking brake light came on saying it was turned off, the check engine light came on, the volvo on call light came on, and the car wouldnt turn off. I moved the shift into different gears, and was able to turn the car off. I waited a while and started the car again. This time the on call, and check engine light stayed on. I called the dealership, was told it was probably a low battery. Had me come in Monday the 26th to have it checked. But Saturday the car wouldn't start right away, and all the warning lights came back on and wouldn't shift gears. Had to call AAA to have it towed. Got a call from the dealership Monday August 26th. Was told they were testing the battery to see if it fails so they could replace it under warranty. They ended up replacing the battery, and told me there was a lot of water in the trunk under the spare tire, where the battery for the on call is located. Said there was a gap in the sunroof weather stripping where tree debris probably clogged the drain pipes. They cleaned that out, and replaced the sunroof weather stripping which was under warrenty. But I was told the water and clogged pipe was not under warrenty, and had to pay for that? September 6th, 30k service and check the on call light that never went off. They found 1.5 inches of water under my front carpet and will be checking for electrical damage and corrosion. They told me this is not covered under the warranty and advised to call my insurance. My safety concern is future electrical issues/ failures while driving. At any time something could malfunction. Thats a huge safety concern and not feeling safe to drive the car. There is nothing about this huge problem in the warranty or maintenance to check the drains !!! September 9th I will call the claims department and notify the adjuster. Also call back the dealership. Prior to this I've had no problems with the car.

This Volvo XC60 B8 has a serious deficiency with the 12v system and main Battery where it discharges below 10v when the vehicle sits idol for more than a week. Every 7-10 day interval the vehicle must be jump-started and driven for 30 min to recharge the 12v system. The vehicle reports itself in limp-mode until the 12v system charges above 11v then switches to normal drive mode for the remainder of the 30 min drive. I installed a battery tender to the POS and NEG posts under the hood but it charges the mild hybrid battery to full then disables continued charging of the 12v system, leaving the 12v main battery under voltage and draining while the car sits idol. We have to drive the vehicle for 30 minutes every 4-5 days to keep the battery charged. Not even Audi or Lamborghini require this much attention to their 12v systems like this 2022 Volvo. This dis-charging issue happens in all types of weather, all year long, and under any parked condition (locked or unlocked) and the factory battery charger only works on the hybrid battery, not the 12v system battery. I have owned other hybrid vehicles that can sit idol for weeks or months at a stretch and will start without issue. While parked, my Camry XLE (Toyota Synergy system mechanically disconnects their traction battery and simultaneously engages the 12v system to keep the Vehicle "aware" via sensors) will sit for months until I return to drive it normally. Volvo dealerships accept this behavior as normal although my experience with hybrid vehicles implies the opposite. I have not been able to uncover any online research that describes my issue with any resolution from Volvo or successful 3rd party auxiliary internal or external charging systems. it has been researched by Volvo to be 'within normal operating parameters'.

while attempting an OTA software update, the update failed. The instrument cluster was inoperative, it was a complete blank screen. Not able to tell how fast you were going, what gear you were in, how much gas you had. All features displayed on the instrument cluster were not available. Contacted Volvo to attempt a software reset, and all attempts were not successful.

Dear sir, I would like to make a complaint about the SOS system in my Volvo CX 60 on two occasions tire blew out on the [XXX] interstate on both of those occasions I called Volvo roadside and emergency assistance. I waited for approximately two hours. No one came. I then had to change the tire myself. I have a bad back and I hurt my back further, the first time the second time I was stopped on the [XXX] interstate they were doing road repair. I stopped on one side of the road and then the people doing the road repair asked me to move to the other side which I did, I called Volvo and waited at least two hours. It is 105° outside in the area adjacent to Selena Utah. I believe I was dehydrated. The human body is approximately 90% water water went down to approximately 70% a gentleman doing construction, the side of the road who I spoke to kindly gave me two bottles of water and one bottle of power drink , at the same time, he asked me to move my car from the other side of the road since they opened up the road they were doing some type of repair type. I am not sure got their assistance and moved my car into Salina town in Utah, where I am now , my complaint is that the SOS button on the Volvo CX 60 is what you were supposed to press if you are in an emergency and they are supposed to come. They are not supposed to tell you they’re gonna come and not come which is what happened in my case both times someone said they’re gonna be there in an hour and then I waited two hours. No one came and then , I had to in the first case do the repairs myself in the second case have someone help push me in the basis of Volvo is misleading thinking that the SOS button works it does not work. That is the basis of my complaint. These two events occurred on [XXX] and [XXX]. Of 2024. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

- #11594073June 12, 2024WHEELS
On two occasions we have discovered cracks in a wheel on the vehicle. The second crack is causing the tire to lose pressure. We have no recollection of any impact that would have damaged the wheels. It appears the vehicle is too heavy for the wheels, causing them to fail under normal usage.

- #11590062May 22, 2024ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, UNKNOWN OR OTHER, BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING
The sound system of the vehicle failed. No alerts for cross path detection, no parking alerts, no Bluetooth calling, no gps guidance, no turn signal sound, no ability to call through the sos feature, and no radio. There is no value to the safety features because there is no audible alert for anything. The when you select radio after listening to Bluetooth audio it glitches and turns back to the prior audio source 5-7 times prior to allowing you to stay on the selected source (again no sound so less important of an issue). In addition, the park button doesn’t always work. There are times that I need to press it 3-5 times to put the car in park. The ability to be hands free and use the Bluetooth and navigation functions is non existent. The sarasota Volvo dealer walked me through trying to reset the system over the phone but it didn’t work. We have an appointment scheduled in two days to look at the car. No warning signs or alerts came up.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -The backup camera system fails to respond intermittently. Often times the screen will remain black for several seconds while backing up before the screen shows any picture. Other times it will come on, and then flash to black while you are backing up. This is a major hazard should a child run/walk behind a car, when this occurs. I'm hoping others have expressed this problem so action can be taking. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? -Since Backup cameras are a federal requirement since 5/2018. The Failure to function on these new cars I find to be unacceptable. Even more so given that Volvo is supposed to be a brand dedicated to safety. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -Indirectly yes, the Volvo dealership acknowledged that the new Google system is slow to respond at times. But they said a new software update would fix it. I have found this to not be the case and it seems to be happening more frequently now. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -yes by the dealer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -no

I was backing into my garage in reverse gear when there was a sudden power surge and the car accelerated rapidly backwards (without me pushing the gas pedal), which led to a crash that caused substantial damage to the car. The car was out of my control, with it accelerating without reason, so something failed on the car. I do not know what component failed, only that there was a sudden and rapid acceleration in reverse. There are no warning lights and the car was taken for an estimate and damages exceed $10,000.

- #11572618February 18, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, ENGINE, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Feb. 1, 2024: A short drive on electric during below zero weather, a car wash & a couple 100ft drive into a parking lot. Pulling into a parking space, foot on the brake pedal, ICE roared on accelerating the car over a curb, down an embankment & into a 3ft snow drift before I could stop it by pressing the brake pedal with both feet. We stopped 6in from a power pole. If forward crash avoidance system worked, didn't register in the EEPROM per the service tech! Feb. 17, 2024, during below zero weather, no electric charge, operating on ICE over about 2mi, Pulled into a parking space, foot on the brake pedal, ICE surged accelerating the car up over a 6" high curb onto sidewalk. Stopped car by depressing the brake pedal with both feet. Car stopped 2in before hitting a brick building. It didn't seem the forward crash avoidance system functioned to stop us. As a 35-year electronic design and repair professional, I have attempted to merge the two situations to try to find similarities. Two things: unexpected ICE engine acceleration surge & forward collision sensor not kicking on brakes. Per Volvo tech, Feb. 1, no register in EEPROM of forward crash avoidance or ICE issues. Second visit Feb. 22 to service will probably yield same. Obviously, this is not normal operation. We have been in two near collisions caused by the car doing things not designed to do.

- #11564361January 9, 2024SERVICE BRAKES
6/8/23: Vehicle in shop for 30K warranty service. Front brake pads flagged yellow for wear. Recommendation they be addressed next visit at 40K miles. By 35K, Brake pedal was vibrating and steering wheel shaking upon moderate braking. Made appt. With local dealer which required over a month wait. 1/5/24: Dealer confirmed problem. Despite their own Technical Service Bulletin [XXX], dated [XXX], which recommended warranty replacement of brake pads, the service writer, Joe Barber at Volvo of St. Louis, 7700 Manchester Rd. refused to follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Instead, he quoted me a complete front brake job, to include rotors and pads for $920. I declined. With over 50 years of driving experience, not once have I owned a vehicle with brake/rotor failure with so few actual miles driven (mostly highway). Dealer claims this is normal for Volvo cars. Supposedly, one of the safest cars made for many years. I filed a written complaint with the Service Mgr. when he sent me a customer satisfaction survey. No response. Also filed a complaint with Volvo North America in Mahwah, NJ. They also quickly denied any responsibility, claiming normal wear and tear. Unable to upload documentation from my phone, but can do so by PC scan if allowed. Please advise. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

On November 11, 2023 @ between 10:30 and noon, the vehicle infotainment system completely failed. The screen went blank and functions for heat, radio, navigation, cameras, indicator lights in the mirror and the ability to call Volvo emergency services were all lost. A message on the screen said, "Stop the vehicle. This vehicle's infotainment system has encountered a problem. You can reboot or reset factory settings. If this doesn't help, please contact a workshop." This is the second such failure. The first occurred on September 22, 2023. I filed a report with Volvo (REF#[XXX]), and repairs were effected at a local dealer in Maryland. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I recently leased a Volvo XC60 and the Camera system is not working at night time. During the daytime the Camera is working and able to capture images….At nighttime, the camera is not able to “see” and the images on the onboard screen are all dark. I have a Volvo XC90 VIN: YV4A22PK4M1765940 with a backup camera and it works at night time and is able to capture images at night time and the images are clearly defined and viewable…. The Volvo XC60 is not able to transmit images to the onboard screen. I believe this maybe a software issue…but I am not sure. I believe this is a safety issue and respectfully request your help to resolve this issue.

- #11551178October 21, 2023TIRES:TREAD/BELT
TWO PIRELLI SCORPION ZERO TIRES (255/40 R21) RECEIVED ON 2022 VOLVO XC60 RECHARGE AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT DEVELOPED MISSING SQUARES/ CHUNKS OF RUBBER IN THE TREAD AREA. THE TWO TIRES MISSING TREAD WERE ORIGINALLY ON THE FRONT AND WERE ROTATED TO THE REAR FOR ADDED SAFETY. ALL 4 MATCHING TIRES WERE DISPOSED AT THE VOLVO DEALER. VOLVO XC60 COULD NO LONGER BE SAFELY DRIVEN AFTER THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE PICKED UP A SCREW. THE SAFETY ISSUE WAS POINTED OUT DURING AN ATTEMPT TO HAVE THE TIRE REPAIRED BECAUSE IT WAS LOSING AIR. THE TECHNICIAN STATED A TIRE REPAIR WOULD INVOLVE CUTTING/SCRAPING THE TREAD FOR INSTALLATION OF A PATCH. THEY BELIEVED THAT THE TIRE WOULD RUPTURE UPON APPLICATION OF A PATCH. SIMILAR DAMAGE WAS FOUND ON THE SECOND TIRE BUT IT WOULD STILL HOLD AIR. ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, TWO VOLVO DEALERS AND NTB/MAVIS EXAMINED THE TIRES. ON THE FIRST OCCASION, IT WAS THE VOLVO DEALERS OPINION THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY ALIGNMENT. THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE THE TIRES UNDER WARRANTY. SECOND TIME AT NTB/MAVIS THEY BELIEVED THE TIRE CONSTRUCTION WAS FAULTY AND UNSAFE TO REPAIR. THIRD INSPECTION BY A VOLVO DEALER THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY DRIVING OVER GRAVEL/SHARP ROCKS. A LOW PRESSURE WARNING APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE TIRE HAD LOST SOME AIR AND WOULD NOT HOLD AIR LONG WHEN REFILLED. VOLVO'S DEALER REPLACED THE PIRELLI TIRE THAT WOULD NOT HOLD AIR, BUT WOULD NOT REPLACE THE OTHER THREE IN THE SET. MATCHING PIRELLI TIRES COULD NOT BE OBTAINED, SO A SET OF MICHELIN TIRES WERE INSTALLED. OWNER WAS REQUIRED TO PAY FOR THREE, VOLVO COVERED ONE TIRE COST BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT HOLD AIR. NTB/MAVIS ADVISED THEY HAVE DISCONTINUED STOCKING THE PIRELLI SCORPION ZERO TIRE.
