This car was rented to me by Hertz and is still in my possession. This was after the most recent recall for 23TA15. I specifically asked Hertz if this recall applied to my vehicle and they stated they would not send out any vehicle with an Open Recall and yet, it turns out this one has the recall on it. They are knowingly rented dangerous vehicles. I have yet to be contacted to return the vehicle to their possession due to the open recall.

This complaint has to do with Toyota's electrical steering. I will begin this complaint by explaining what I've learned about the new Toyota vehicles. I've been having electrical problems with my car for the past year. It started with the radio going in and out about eight months ago, and now it has been out completely for two months. The tire pressure sensor warning light cycled intermittently when the radio went out. When the radio finally quit working, the tire pressure warning light stays on constantly. When I researched replacing the radio with a non-Toyota radio, I had to replace all of the wiring harnesses (steering control and radio, and there is another harness that I can't remember -- this is from BestBuy). If you don't replace all of the wiring harnesses, you lose the functions of the electrical and warning system, for example, the tire pressure warning lights. In my research (on the internet), I found that the electrical steering can go out if the system receives a signal that the tires are out of alignment and tire pressure warnings. I check my tire pressure every week because the warning light is on. I do not have a tire pressure reset button on my car. The computer or the computer board on the radio periodically pings the sensors. I began hearing a humming noise from the front right side of my car. I originally thought it was a tension pully on the belt because of the cold weather and no warning light. I drove my car about ten miles with the humming noise. Then, the power steering came on, and the steering became almost impossible. (I learned to drive in vehicles without power steering.) Within minutes of the power steering light coming on, I had a catastrophic failure of all systems in my car. Every warning light on the dashboard was on. After about two minutes, the lights cycled off. About one minute later, they came back on. The difficulty driving without the power steering would have been a bad accident if I had been on the Interstate.

My car recently had this message pop up "SRS airbag system malfunction." I did a search for recalls and found that Toyota is doing a recall for my vehicle's year and model (2020-2022 camry). I used this site to punch in my VIN number but there are no recalls on my vehicle. What is the probability that my car has the same exact problem as what the company is recalling for yet not be a part of the recall? Is there anything I can do about this? The message popped up out of the blue.

On [XXX] my daughter brought her 2018 Toyota Camry with 62k miles into Mike Calvert Toyota of Houston Texas for brake noise. The service department evaluated the car and recommended that the rear brakes be replaced. With that advice she had the work done. She left the dealership that day and went home and the car sat until the morning of [XXX]. She had some traveling to do out of town and returned that same day. She got within 45 miles of her destination when I got a frantic phone call from her saying that she was traveling at a high rate of speed and was unable to stop. The warning on the vehicle says Low Braking Power. I was able to have her put her hazard lights on a get to the shoulder where she couldn't get her speed below 10 miles per hour. She was able to use the E-break and an elevated surface to get the car to a safe spot some 45 miles away. We have made numerous attempts to get the dealership to tell us why this happened. Initially they stated that the calipers failed. After calling repeatedly we were told it was a defective part that was installed and they needed to get a new one in. The dealership refuses to answer any phone calls or emails. I have appealed to the GM on numerous occasions and the Owner with no replies. We need NHTSA to investigate whether this dealership is doing faulty work that jeopardizes lives or did Toyota fail to recall this vehicle and the issue is more wide spread. I fear for the public safety if the issue is more wide spread. This vehicle was not part recalled for brake issues. The VIN appears to be clear of those recalls. - #11564671January 10, 2024STEERING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
This 2016 Toyota Camry LE developed a steering problem. Initially, the steering pulled mildly to the left when the car was cold. This resolved after 5 minutes of driving. My mechanic could find no problem with the steering. Eventually (2 weeks) the steering would additionally intermittently pull moderately to the right. This was not reproducible. If I did not hold the wheel firmly, the car would turn off the road or across the lane to the right. Within one week the car would became difficult to start. Two days later the battery failed completely. Replacing the battery totally corrected the steering problems. I conclude that the failing battery could not adequately power the electric motors in the power steering. This was the first sign of a failing battery. I had never heard of this before. There was no warning light. I believe that such an unusual sign of a failing battery should be publicized as an important warning for all cars with electrically controlled power steering.

The contact stated that a new sun visor was purchased online however, the contact was unable to install the part due to a significant amount of dried glue. The contact attempted to scrape off the glue but was unable to remove the glue. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer, who made the same assessment and informed the contact that the new sun visor could not be installed. The contact stated that the vision of the roadway and the traffic lights were significantly reduced or impaired while driving on a sunny day due to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

I bought this car 2 weeks ago and now I'm learning of this Torque Converter problem. The used car dealership claimed that the car did not have any mechanical issues and upon test driving the issue wasn't apparent. However, no sooner than driving off the lot I notice the shutter. All of these dealerships kick the can down the road and does not fix this issue. There should be a recall on these models 2012 - 2014 to fix this issue as it is very expensive for the average driver. Toyota knew about this issue from 2012 and did not fix the problem. They will only fix it when they are forced.
