I am filing a formal complaint regarding a longstanding and unresolved recall on my 2020 Toyota Camry XSE. The recall in question — NHTSA #23V865 / Toyota #23TB15 — was issued on December 19, 2023, and involves a critical defect: the passenger airbag may fail to deploy in a crash. As of today, nearly six months later, no remedy has been issued by Toyota. This puts myself and others at serious risk, and Toyota has made no accommodations to ensure my safety, such as a loaner vehicle. In addition, I am continuing to make payments on this vehicle through Toyota Financial Services, despite being unable to use it safely or as intended. I urge NHTSA to take immediate action to: •Investigate the reason for the extended delay in remedy •Pressure Toyota to offer protective measures or replacement vehicles •Ensure that automakers are held accountable when they fail to resolve serious recalls in a reasonable timeframe I expect a response or update from NHTSA and Toyota regarding the status of this recall and the lack of consumer support.

At 130k miles my transmission went out. A known issue with the 8 speed automatic in the newer Camrys. I brought the car to transmission shop and they told me transmission replacement for my car is on back order and can’t get it for months. This is a known issue with Toyota and no recalls or anything. No check engine light or anything in advance, just simply gave up while on the highway and went into limp mode.

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that upon taking the vehicle out of the garage and driving the vehicle, the contact later noticed that the dashboard was melting and was sticky, causing a reflection on the windshield and a glare. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the contact was informed that the dashboard needed to be replaced. The mechanic related the failure to Toyota Campaign Number: ZE6. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the same assessment was made. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the campaign had expired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

The contact owned a 2020 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that his wife was driving at 60 MPH, when another vehicle struck the rear driver's side, causing the vehicle to spin and crash into a semi-truck's trailer. The contact stated that the tires had caved in as a result of the collision. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's wife's head struck the steering wheel and the front driver's side window. The contact's wife suffered cuts, bruises, and bumps on her forehead, hands, and arms. The contact's parents were also present in the vehicle. The contact's father suffered head, hand, and wrist injuries, while the contact's mother suffered six broken ribs and two broken hands. The contact's wife and parents were transported to the hospital via ambulance. The vehicle was towed to the tow yard and was deemed totaled by the insurance company. - #11663603May 29, 2025FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
The default cruise control mode on my 2025 Toyota Camry is adaptive cruise control. If you are using adaptive cruise control when driving around town the system can abrubtly brake when it should not. The two conditions when this happens are: 1. You are driving on a divided highway that has left turn lanes. If there are cars in the left turn lane the sytem can abrubtly brake. It thinks the car in the left turn lane are in your path. 2. If you are driving in the left lane of a one way street where cars are parked on the left hand side of the street, the system can brake abrubtly. It thinks the parked cars are in your path. I consider this a safety issue because drivers often follow to closely and abrupt braking might cause a rear end collision. To solve this problem, I suggest Toyota either make non adaptive cruise control the default or have an option to change the default cruise control to non adaptive cruise control.

Description of the Problem: On May 19, 2025, the steering wheel intermediate shaft or column of my 2020 Toyota Camry LE Hybrid began to malfunction. The steering became unexpectedly hard and stuck, significantly affecting my ability to safely control the vehicle. This problem occurs intermittently but poses a serious safety risk as it can happen while the vehicle is in motion, especially during turns or lane changes. •The affected component is the steering column/intermediate shaft, and it is available for inspection upon request. •This malfunction put my safety and the safety of others at risk, as it limited my ability to steer accurately and could potentially result in a collision, especially in emergency or high-speed situations. •At this time, the issue has not yet been reproduced or confirmed by a Toyota dealership or an independent service center, but I am in the process of scheduling an inspection. •The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance, or other parties, but I am prepared to provide access to the vehicle for a thorough inspection. •There were no warning lamps, error messages, or advance symptoms before the failure. The issue appeared suddenly on May 19, 2025, without any prior signs or indicators.

I purchased a 2009 Toyota Camry on [XXX]. After a few years, the dashboard became soft and sticky. During the summer of 2018, I noticed it melting on a hot sunny day. I looked into having it replaced. There was a warranty enhancement notification letter previously sent to me, which stated this type of known problem would be covered for up to 10 years since car was first placed in service. Unfortunately, I didn’t determine this was enough of a problem to me until [XXX]. I missed the warranty extension by 5 days. I contacted Newbold Toyota on June 29, 2018, and the service manager said that after the 10 years, it was the manufacturer's responsibility and there is nothing they can do, except to charge me for the repair. The repair was estimated at approx. $1,500 for the dashboard replacement. At first, I thought "Oh well, I can live with this." But now the dashboard has melted so much that it now reflects sunlight into the windshield so badly that it is has become a safety hazard. It is very difficult to see through the windshield when driving towards the sun or with the sun directly above on a sunny day (even while wearing sunglasses). So the defective dashboard is now causing a very hazardous driving condition. So I contacted the national Toyota Customer Service Center, and they said essentially the same thing as Newbold Toyota. There was nothing they can do now. Since this design/material flaw has caused such a serious hazard when driving the car, and this is now a safety issue, I believe Toyota should be held responsible and should pay for the repair to fix this safety issue. When I purchased this car, I had no idea the dashboard had an expiration date. Had I noticed the melting a few days earlier they would have paid for the replacement. So why does their responsibility to fix this defect/safety issue end after 10 years? I don’t believe Toyota considers this a safety issue, or I believe they would fix it. Thank you. ABS and VSC lights on the dash have been flashing on and off for the last few years. They always went off after flashing. 2 weeks ago they both flashed on and the warning message "Check VSC System" came on with a loud buzzing whine. Now they will not go off. The brake pedal pulses back when applied and felt very hard. It took the car a long time to stop which is a safety danger. Took it to an independent mechanic and he diagnosed that the ABS system has failed. He also mentioned that Toyota issued several Customer Support Notices to repair or replace the unit but I did not get them even though I am the only owner and still resides at the same address. He gave me the notices and I went to a Toyota dealer but it refuse to provide any warranty work and wanted to charge me for another diagnosis, stating the notices had long expired.

It started to make whining noise while accelerating. The noise is coming from transmission. Also, periodic erratic gear changes have started to occur. Mechanic says it is a known problem with 2018 and 2019 Camry that transmission fails and makes noises prior to failing.

My warning panel told me to take the car to dealer for reprogram, and dealer said my wiring harness for hybrid electric system had been chewed by rodents and the harness and probably batteries should be replaced NOW or the car might catch fire. I replaced the harness and the batteries. When I asked to see the parts, they said they had boxed and shipped. Later, a friend alerted me to a problem with Soy-based coatings on wires that rodents found tasty. My friend said his KIA had same problem and his insurance covered the expense . Now, I’m $5000 poorer, and Toyota hasn’t compensated me for repairs.
