- #11588505May 13, 2024EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Component: High Beam Assist Safety issue: The High Beam Assist system that is enabled by default with the neutral "Auto" switch on the control stalk has a faulty "light detection" system that cannot be overridden by manual driver input. The light detection system is designed to disengage high-beams when another car becomes visible, then re-engage the high-beams when the car passes. However, this system is overly sensitive and will very often disengage high beams based on street lights, reflective mail boxes, pavement reflectors, moonlight, and more. There is no available control to reliably override this disengagement. The system also prevent engagement, not just falsly triggering disengagement. For example, if you see an obstacle while using low-beams, and attempt to quick engage high-beams by pushing the control stalk, the system will not engage high-beams because the sensor falsely detected a light source. You can flick the control stalk back and forth repeatedly, and the high-beams will not engage in Auto. Reproducible: always reproducible, and reported by numerous owners in online forums Inspection: N/A Warnings: None

I pulled into a parking spot and to ensure I stopped when I wanted to, I braked. The car accelerated, smashing into a building. I always drive in eco mode and generally use the e-pedal which was on at the time. I’m not sure if either or a combination of those may have been a factor in what happened. The car is available for inspection upon request. I was fine, but very shaken. The car is driveable, but the front bumper is mangled and the left blinker no longer works. The headlights are functional. The charger panel releases and I can pry it open, though it no longer pops up. No airbags were deployed. The car was going slow enough, there seems to be no damage to the building. I'm concerned what could happen when we drive into our garage or, worse, if there is a car or pedestrian in front of our car and rather than braking the car accelerates. I have seen several reports of similar experiences, though no resolutions or suggestions. I can imagine this being a one-time occurrence, but I am deeply concerned it is not. I've been at a loss in who and how this can be addressed. I have called several Nissan dealers. The service people that I spoke with were not optimistic about what they could discern and, more importantly, did not seem concerned. As a result, I called my long-time car mechanic who did some initial diagnostics, but they were inconclusive. There have been no other inspections. I have reported this to Nissan USA and have opened a case/claim. I don’t recall any warnings at the time. All recalls have been updated.

This is a report of what I think is a safety issue with the Leaf vehicle but has not caused an accident or incident for me, yet. If the Start button is pressed and then the Shift Control is changed to quickly the car will be put into Neutral instead of the desired Drive or Reverse. If the driver does not realize this and removes their foot from the break when the car is on a steep hill the car could roll into a vehicle, pedestrian or other obstacle before the surprised driver has a chance to break. The Leaf vehicle should not go out of Park if it is not ready to go into Drive or Reverse when the driver is trying to shift it into Drive or Reverse.

Our Nissan Leaf experiences dangerous behavior while driving on the freeway. After approximately 23 miles of driving, the car suddenly displays a slippery road sign (The day is dry, no rain) and significantly reduces speed on its own. Attempting to accelerate has no effect. To ensure safety, we activate the hazard lights and pull the car to the side. Only after turning off the car and restarting it does the issue resolve temporarily. This situation poses an extreme risk, as any nearby vehicle could collide with ours during this sudden slowdown. Safety Concerns: Given the severity of this issue, we are genuinely frightened to drive the car daily. Unfortunately, we have limited alternatives for commuting to work. Our safety and the safety of others on the road are at stake. Our Nissan Leaf experiences dangerous behavior while driving on the freeway. This issue started in early 23 but it was not very often so we thought this might be a glitch and did not happen for few months. but then it started happening once or twice a month. since January 2024 it started happening more often and now it is happening almost every day. As soon as I left with a 80% from Kendall by the time I got to my destination (Plantation 30miles) I had 20%. On 1/1/2024 I left the plantation at around 6:30pm. I Charged the vehicle to 100%. After 35min of driving at 70 miles per hour I noticed that I only had 20% charge (30miles). I stopped and charged for 3hrs, because I needed an application to charge, and only 1 charging machine was working. I was able to charge 99%. I drove another 30miles and noticed that I only had 40miles left to continue driving, I had to stop again. 1hr after driving I started getting messages the vehicle was overheated, and to slow down. I started driving 60miles per hour in the turn pike. I stopped every 30min because the vehicle was overheating, and it was discharging. Issues with the Vehicle: 1) once you drive over 65 mph for 30 minutes the car starts overheating, you have to stop at that point. 2) The GPS is not able to provide you with an accurate list of places to charge. 3) The vehicle discharges fast. 4) I was informed that the vehicle has an additional part that is not part of the vehicle that could be affecting the battery (OBD2) and that the original warrantee will not pay. anything because of that. 5) it shows that you have 100% battery or 105 miles but it’s not accurate. A trip that would take me 4hrs and 30min took me 17hrs. When I arrived at Citrus County, I was only 21%, I knew I was not going to be able to make to my house. I started calling the insurance who were able to assist me with the Vin number. I drove the car to a location where I could charge the car for couple hours to only get 26%. I called Nissan Jenkins of Homosassa 937 S. Suncoast Blvd Homosassa Fl 34448, spoke with Benjamin L. I arrived at Nissan at 11:30am. I took the vehicle straight to Jenkins Nissan in Homosassa, where I arrived with only 10% of charge. PLEASE NOTE THAT I CAN NOT UPLOAD THE PICTURES AND THE SUMMARY.

When backing up after opening or closing the trunk the backup camera flashes blue and green with lines on the screen. It sometimes worked again when the trunk is slammed or the car is restarted. The safety was put at risk because I was not able to see the ground when reversing and there was a blind spot that the camera usually fills in.

The error occurred on [XXX]. The car got me to my destination. Error occurred past the 1/2 way point. The next day was busy w/ personal issues. Later in the afternoon, I was by the vehicle, I called the Nissan Roadside Assistance number. It was at this point that I was informed that no one was available or that my location was out of network. I was then instructed to find my own tow & arranged everything. I did. The vehicle completely died en route to the Nissan Dealership. The EV Motor locks the wheels & there is no way to disengage the motors lock on the CV axle. The vehicle is in the Nissan service department at Flagstaff Nissan currently. My Nissan LEAF SV Plus is currently has 33,258 miles on it. It is currently covered under the basic warranty of Nissan North America. The LEAF was purchased on Saturday, [XXX]. As of11/16/2023, there is no estimated time of repair. I do try & call everyday. The Dealership has issued me a Loaner to use during the absence of my malfunctioned vehicle. The Dealership is solid & I do recommend them. There are several flaws with this 2021 Nissan LEAF SV Plus and they are as follows: 1. The LEAF has an outdated Level 3 charger that is being fazed out in North America. 2. The LEAF has no Active Thermal Management for the Battery. 3. The LEAF’s passive cooling is negated as the battery is too large to enable proper air flow. 4. The LEAF nearly stranded me out in the middle of Nowhere. 5. The LEAF’s battery will degrade at a high rate as there is no ATM for the Battery. Based on the listed evidence, you can see that my confidence in the LEAF has been shattered. I thought the LEAF would be super reliable & would never let me down. After this incident, I realized that the “hate” was actually hard & heavy concerns that I thought was invalid. I have Buyers remorse, BIG Time. The back up camera failed. It shows a blank grey screen. The other side and front cameras work but not the most important camera, the rear, back up camera. This is becoming a more and more frequent problem to the point now where its failing more often than not.

Soon after I leased this Leaf, I noticed shifting interference. It grew steadily worse over the 3 or so months I kept the Leaf. Toward the end of that time period, it took a great deal of maneuvering of the shift knob to get into the correct direction. It would flip back from position before it engaged the forward or reverse motion. I got involved in a fender bender incident which was at least partially a result of the shifting confusion. At one point I put 3-in-1 oil into the top of the shifting pad. It helped for a very short time. Finally, I could not get the car to move either forward or back. I had the car towed to the dealer. The dealer said that foreign something had gotten into the shifting mechanism. I noted that the shifting mechanism in this car is located directly adjacent to a drink cup holder. So, apparently splash from my drink caused problem. If true, at the least, the shifting mechanism ought to be water proofed from outside fluid and particulate travels. An unsafe regular occurrence, I think.

- #11546660September 26, 2023SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I was driving on the highway when the car in front of me applied their breaks - I took my foot off of the accelerator but the car did not slow down. I applied the breaks but they did not work - in fact, the car seemed to accelerate. I heard the collision alarm sound but the automatic emergency braking system did not engage or stop the car, so I crashed into the car in front of me. Air bag deployed and then the car filled with smoke from the batteries but I couldn't get out as the power locks didn't work or allow me to open the door. The EMT's had to break the rear window to get me out of the car

The windshield of my Nissan Leaf spontaneously cracked without being hit by anything externally. Upon inspection, it's pretty clear that the windshield didn't crack because of anything hitting it from the outside (which is what the dealer claimed), since the outside of the windshield is still completely smooth. The crack somehow started from the bottom of the inside of the windshield and propagated itself across the entire windshield. When the car was purchased, my dealer recommended warranty purchase because of the fragile windshield, which suggested that the windshield design may be faulty.
