Some 2016-2019 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 not at the latest software level may exhibit Various Performance Related concerns such as Display Operation, Navigation, Voice Recognition, Phone Pairing, Applink, Travel Link, Slow System Response, etc. Check for SYNC software update under the OASIS Tab SYNC selection. If an update is available refer to WSM,Section 415-00 and update the APIM software. After Installation, complete pop-up appears, remove USB flash drive and install into IDS tool to update Ford database. Perform a complete ignition cycle by turning the key off for 5 minutes which is critical for a successful installation. If no updates are available or a blue or black screen is present after an update refer to WSM, Section 415-00 for diagnosis or SYNC 3 intermittent blank screen GSB for tips. Some 2018-2019 F-150 vehicles built on 23-Sep-2018 and through 28-Mar-2019 and 2019 Edge/Nautilus/Continental/MKZ vehicles built on 4-Dec-2018 and through 29-Mar-2019 and Fusion vehicles built on 16-Jan-2019 and through 12-Apr-2019 equipped with a 2.7L/3.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P04DB stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to the incorrect positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve installed. If the PCV valve is brown in color, refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for normal diagnostics. If the PCV valve is gray in color, replace the PCV valve, clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC returns, refer to the PC/ED for normal diagnostics.

Summary
On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission it is imperative that the converter pilot hub be greased with Motorcraft Multi-Purpose Grease Spray XL-5-A even if grease was not applied from the factory. Also verify that the engine/transmission alignment dowel pins are present as well as the engine crankshaft dowel pin, if equipped, when installing the transmission. Failure to adequately lubricate the converter hub greatly increases the likelihood of the flexplate cracking in the future. Missing dowels may cause a misalignment issue also resulting in a premature failure. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.

Diagnostic trouble code (DTC) U0155 may also be present in the headlamp control module (HCM). Some 2013-2019 vehicles equipped with a EVDC air conditioning (A/C) compressor may exhibit poor A/C performance/improper climate function and/or a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P06A0 in the powertrain control module (PCM). To support the proper diagnosis of this compressor, the EVDC control valve tester has been developed and is available from Rotunda (339-EVDC100). A tester has been provided to each U.S. dealership free of charge with shipments completed 19-Apr-2019 (reference EFC07013 on FMCDealer.com). This tester will help reduce the potential for misdiagnosis and unnecessary compressor replacement. Make sure that this tester is used for warranty repairs and document the test results in the Technician Comments field. Refer to the Rotunda catalog for a video and user manual which provide detailed operating instructions.

SSM 47948 - 2010-2019 Various Vehicles - Turbocharged Engines - Oil Supply Filter Replacement When Replacing The Turbocharger Or The Turbocharger Oil Supply Tube For 2010-2019 vehicles equipped with turbocharged engines, when diagnosing and/or replacing turbo related concerns, all steps within the Workshop Manual (WSM) procedure must be followed including replacement of all mandatory discarded parts. When specified in the WSM, the turbocharger oil supply filter must be replaced whenever the turbocharger or the turbocharger oil supply tube are replaced. Turbocharger bearing failure may occur if oil starvation occurs due to a restricted filter.

To resolve this concern, check for a SYNC software update under the OASIS Tab SYNC selection. If an update is available, update the APIM software per Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 415-00. Follow the onscreen instructions provided by the programming process. To verify success after programming, turn the key off with the dooropen for 5 minutes. SSM 47922 - Various Vehicles - 2.7L/3.0L EcoBoost Engine - Oil Filter Service Tip When servicing the oil filter on vehicles equipped with a 2.7L or 3.0L EcoBoostengine it is critical to inspect the oil filter housing center stem to verify is not separated or damaged. If the center stem is damaged or separated from the housing this will result in oil flow through the reservoir drain port causing low engine oil pressure and internal engine damage. If the filter housing stem is damaged or separated, the oil filter housing must be replaced. If the center stem is not damaged or separated, the O-ring seals on the stem and housing must be replaced each time the filter is serviced.

Some 2017-2019 F-Super Duty, 2017-2019 Continental, 2016-2019 Edge, 2016-2018 MKX, 2019 Nautilus vehicles may exhibit a U3000:49 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) setting in the Steering Effort Control Module (SECM) with no other DTCs present. To eliminate the DTC, perform the IDS SASM module reset routine. The IDS reset routine is available under Toolbox > Chassis > Steering > Adaptive Front Steering > SASM Module Reset. Do not attempt any repairs at this time. Engineering is investigating, monitor OASIS for updates. 2017-2019 F-Super Duty, 2017-2019 Continental, 2015-2019 Edge, 2016-2018 MKX and 2019 Nautilus vehicles may exhibit an inoperative heated steering wheel. For vehicles equipped with adaptive steering, the steering effort control module (SECM) controls the heated steering wheel feature and is internal to the vehicle's steering wheel. For vehicles not equipped with adaptive steering, the heated steering wheel module (HSWM) controls the heated steering wheel feature and is separate from the steering wheel. Using the OASIS Tab drop down > HVBoM > Features button or an appropriate Ford diagnostic scan tool, you can determine if the vehicle is equipped with Adaptive Steering. Refer to the Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 211-05.

Some 2019 Mustang/Fusion/Edge/F-150/Continental/MKZ/Nautilus/Ranger vehicles with SYNC 3 may show a pop-up message every key cycle that states Network Connection Needed - To complete the system updates your vehicle should connect to a Wi-Fi network or through the FordPass/LincolnWay app. Until the update is completed, some features may not be available. Would you like to attempt to connect to a Wi-Fi network now? This message may occur, even if SYNC has been connected to a trusted Wi-Fi source. To temporarily remove the inconvenience of this pop-up message, advise the customer from SYNC to select Settings > Automatic Updates > System Wi-Fi and turn off System Wi-Fi, then turn off automatic system updates. Engineering is investigating, monitor OASIS for updates.

Summary
Some 2015-2017 vehicles may experience a no crank concern due to a security access key table error. When attempting to program keys or perform a parameter reset, the procedure may fail and the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) scan tool may display an error 232: Key Table Not Allocated. If this error message is encountered, the Body Control Module (BCM) is internally faulted and requires replacement. For claiming, use causal part 15604 and applicable labor operations in section 10 of the Service Labor Times Standards (SLTS) manual.
