The contact owns a 2013 Kia Sorento. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

ENGINE
Engine oil consumption with no warning that oil is low. The engine is faulty and can cause a seized engine while on the highway very dangerous. Thankfully the engine started sounding like loose change got home checked whole car to discover there was only about a quart oil in engine. No leak anywhere. Talked to Kia today was told it was an engine affected but excessive oil consumption. And there is a known problem with the engine but no recall

I am writing to formally lodge a complaint regarding a significant issue with the paint on my 2017 Kia Sorento. The vehicle, which is painted in Snow White Pearl, has been experiencing rapid and extensive paint peeling, a condition referred to by body shops as “delamination.” The paint began peeling in small areas however, the peeling has rapidly progressed, affecting larger sections of the vehicle. This issue is not only unsightly but also raises concerns about the potential for rust and other damage to the vehicle’s body. I have taken the following steps to address this issue: 1. Documented the progression of the paint peeling with photographs, including dates and mileage. 2. Consulted with multiple body shops, all of which have confirmed that the issue is delamination and have provided estimates for repair. 3. Contacted my local Kia dealership, which informed me that the vehicle’s paint warranty had expired and offered no assistance. Given the widespread nature of this issue among Kia Sorento owners, particularly those with the Snow White Pearl paint, I believe this is a manufacturing defect that warrants investigation. I urge the NHTSA to look into this matter and consider initiating a recall to address the paint delamination problem.

SERVICE BRAKES
The speed sensor that works with traction control /stability and abs has malfunctioned twice and has had to be replaced and 2 seperate occasions. The first time was when it only had 22,000 miles on it so that leads me to believe it is a malfunctioning part. Our abs and traction control do not operate properly and is ridiculously expensive to fix. Both lights are on.

The problem started after a quick stop at a convenient store on the way to work. After starting the engine the vehicle would not shift from park. I was able to bypass this after a quick Internet search by removing a small cover near the stick shut and a small straw to bypass the shift control. I've had the car twice at the mechanics without a diagnosis as to a possible cause and was able to have the mechanic permanently disabled the shift lock but was warned the vehicle could be shifted to drive or neutral at any time and moved with a key. About a month later I found myself without headlights and shortly after this without wiper controls. Another visit to my mechanic would this time show the problems, shift lock, headlights and wipers were all from a faulty PCM. My mechanic has shipped my PCM out twice for repair but both time only caused the replacement part to blow. It's not suggested they use the dealer to further repair the problem. I've been 3 weeks without my vehicle and it's another week before the earliest availability from my local dealer. I'm only hoping now it's not a long backorder to gets the parts necessary to fix my vehicle. I have also read this has been a common problem and costly repair with other 2016 Kia Sorento owners.

The door latch behind the driver side of the vehicle does not work. It will not open from the outside of the vehicle. This is a safety concern especially since this is my [XXX] daughter's car. I have called KIA and they will not honor this repair since the car was purchased used in August of 2021. I also have another 2011 Kia Sorento with the same issue. This is definitely a problem with KIA and this should be repaired regardless of how old the vehicle is since it is due to a defect in the product. Oil light has come on intermittently, so we took the car into the Kia dealership in May before we hit 60k miles, the limit of our warranty. We were told they drained the oil, checked everything, and didn't find any issues. Oil light issue persisted so we took the car back to the dealership today (July 19) and the dealership has now acknowledged the crack in the engine where oil leaks into the oil pan. This is a widespread problem and should have been well known by the dealership. [XXX] ) However, dealer cannot do anything to fix the engine unless we pay - we were instructed to monitor the oil level and bring the car back regularly so they could read the computer codes to see if the engine starts to show any signs of rod bearing failure, since that code would justify Kia replacing the engine. The contact owns a 2011 Kia Sorento. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V652000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, there was smoke coming from under the hood. The contact raised the hood and became aware of a short circuit around the engine. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with a positive battery cable being stuck with the shift cable and inhibitor switch causing the short circuit. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle would be repaired out-of-pocket. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 108,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

STEERING
The steering wheel/ column gets stuck like sticky as other call it, other owners have the problem my car is new 2017 Kia sorento just with 69k miles on it and turning the wheel gets hard where the point I put force I over turn and my car turns to much close to hitting other cars I don’t drive it because the wheel/column sticks to much and it gets worse and worse when I drive it Time to time it needs to become a recall because other sorento owners are having the problem

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Overtime the low beam headlights have become very dim. The bulbs have always blown a lot but I have recently replaced both bulbs and they are still very dim. I ordered high powered LED bulbs and still the low beams are very dim. So dim you can barely see 10 feet in front of you when driving at night. I have to drive with the high beams on to see where I am going. Research online shows this is an issues with the projector type headlights on these vehicle but no recall is there. The headlight are over $600 to replace for an off brand set. Not something that should be going bad on a 2015 car.

Infotainment center glicthing while driving, Restarting as if the car was just started. Attempted to resolve with KIA after ongoing issues but they do not feel that this is a safety concern or feel it needs to be investigated appropriately. This occurs when driving typically on the highway because most of my travel is highway. When this occurs it is a distraction for the driver. It interferes with the ability to use hands free/calls/gps. Timestamped photos and video available There is no warning before failure. Due to Covid, Parts shortatages and loaner/rental shortages this was not addressed in a timely manner by KIA however they state its my fault.

about an hour after earlier incident below we went to the beach. After unloading beach items and children I realized that the elctrical components of the vehicle were still running. The vechicle was off. Key was out of the ignition. All doors were open. AC/Infotainment Center/Lights would not turn off. I was concerned about what to do. I felt it was unsafe it leave it running. Called the dealership, left a message with the service advisor I was given the card for a week prior when mentioning ongoing issues. Video recorded the incident. Attempted to call again. Attempted to call other numbers for the dealership. Spoke with a friend who is a mechanic who suggested disconnecting the battery.
