POWER TRAIN, STEERING
While parking, the power steering hose melted and power steering liquid leaked, causing the engine room and the bottom of the engine room to catch fire. There was danger to the driver and cars parked nearby. The problem was confirmed and repaired at a auto repair shop. Firefighters responded and the insurance company inspected the vehicle. Before the error occurred, there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of a problem.

Car engine overheated without any warning indicating that it was overheating. It just started smoking. Car is available for inspection upon request. Our safety was put at risk because in 95-degree weather, warm air was coming from AC when car sat idle. The root of the problem has not been confirmed by the dealer. Vehicle pictures were sent to insurance. No warning appeared before failure.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The rear brake / turn signal light housing tends to fill with water. When this occurs the turn signal lights short out. This presents a risk when making turns or switching lanes if the driver is unaware the rear signal is out. There are numerous online articles and videos illustrating the issue. KIA is also aware of the issue, but do not cover it under their warranty or offer repair.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
I received a letter from Kia America, Inc. extending the warranty on the high pressure fuel pump on my 2020 Kia Sedona. They claim that the fuel control valve plunger may wear unevenly and over time become stuck in the open position. They state different things can happen including stalling. My research found that it can cause stalling at high speeds or in heavy traffic and it may cause a loss of control over the vehicle. ARE THEY TRYING TO AVOID A RECALL. I am [XXX] and this sounds real dangerous. Does a serious accident have to happen before a recall is ordered? i have attached a copy of the letter below. Side impact airbag didn't deploy causing head injury to driver. Van was hit at high speed by impaired driver who ran a red light. Van has hit from the driver's side in the engine compartment just in front of the driver. The engine was basically laying in the street after the impact.

Engine Control system warning came on without warning 2 days before we Took it to our local mechanic. He fixed it with a $2700 price. Told us the accutuator on bank #2 was bad. He ended up replacing several other parts including the timing chain. We got our van back, and 3 days later the ECS warning was back with a tick, & the engine light came on. I believe Kia has a real need to recall this issue.

TIRES:TREAD/BELT
The first of four tire failures (all the same DOT Number) of the OEM tires that were on the 2021 Kia Sedona when purchased in April, 2021. The first tire belt broke when on an approximate 1000 mile drive and was replaced on an emergency basis on January 24, 2024 with 16,760 miles on the vehicle. The second tire belt broke on the trip home and was replaced on an emergency basis on March 8, 2024 with 18,927. After arriving home, the tires were inspected, found to have defective belts and were replaced with a warranty adjustment by Discount Tire in Oswego with 19,191 miles. Kumho has still not honored the warranty by sending checks for the first two defective tires. (Can't find receipt from warranty replacement by Discount Tires but will continue looking. Have many photos of defective tire if desired.)

My engine made a knocking noise and stopped working while I was driving down the road, without any warning. Then it would not start / work. It was towed to a Kia dealership, and I have been told I need a new engine, at the cost of $10, 750. The van has 135,000 miles on it. This van has the 3.3-liter V6 Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) Lambda Engine. The repair report from Kia states that it "needs a long block due to engine has bottom end noise and is seize up".

The contact owns a 2019 Kia Sedona. The contact stated while driving, he became aware of a strong and unpleasant fuel odor that made him and his granddaughter sick. The contact stated that the check engine warning light flashed on and off several times. The vehicle was taken on several occasions to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with a fuel leak and several parts related to the fuel leak failure were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated the failure had been for a year and the dealer had not been able to repair the vehicle properly. The vehicle was also inspected by an independent mechanic who confirmed the failure and stated that the exhaust was very hot which could cause a fire. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The vehicle was no longer under warranty. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however, no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

I purchased my kia Sedona new and have always properly maintained it. It now has approximately 140,000 miles on it. Our sedona started to get hot so we let it cool down then took it straight to the dealership. They said we need a new engine, the head gasket is leaking because of faulty threads in the engine block. They said this is a common problem on this engine that they get a couple a week with this problem! They said sorry but kia would not help with any of the cost.

While driving from La Crosse WI to Champlin, MN on [XXX] I noticed car was not responding as much as usual when pressing gas and might have been making some clicking type noises but lots of other noises in and around vehicle could not tell for sure. Then suddenly heard very loud clanking and banging sounds and saw smoke come out of engine, I pulled over. Upon pulling over I discovered a large oil leak under the vehicle and oil pouring out. This happened while on a highway about to merge onto a freeway. I was 34weeks pregnant and had 3 kids in the vehicle. We were barely able to make it to the shoulder before stopping. Cars were not slowing down passing us. Very dangerous situation. If we had not been able to get to the shoulder when we did we would have likely been hit at high speeds. Vehicle was towed to Heartland Tire Inc at 11438 Jefferson Court, Champlin MN 55316. Upon inspection on [XXX] they found a hole (around 3" diameter) in the engine block. We have reached out to Kia 5 different times only able to speak to one person who suggested we pay Kia to investigate what happened, they have no interest in exploring this issue without charging us. Therefore with a current estimate of $9316.84 we have made the decision to scrap the vehicle. There were no warning lamps on prior to pulling over. After pulling over the engine, oil and possibly a third lamp were lit up. For about 10 mins we had no power after turning off the vehicle (even to put the windows down, another safety concern) I was able to open the front passenger window until the I could get some power and roll down some windows. My car made a rattling noise when hitting the accelerator. The mechanic said that I only had one quart of oil left in my engine. No sign of leaks and no error codes. The engine light never came on. The oil has been changed regularly. The mechanic said the pistons were not firing correctly.

The Driver side rear sliding door motor was not functioning properly. however the sliding door was getting locked and unlocked and can function properly manually . I took the vehicle to the KIA dealership with this recall and extended warranty. they installed a new motor and that motor was not working properly so they went ahead and installed a module for the sliding door to function properly. Later the door gets jammed and the door is not opening and the panel latch is not releasing the sliding door which only happens after they installed the new motor and module. they are asking to pay out of pocket to get it fixed. My understanding after consulting with people that if some part is under warranty and its not functioning properly than it should be fixed by the company which they are refusing to do. two concerns here, one is money that they are asking to get it fixed but the second concern is more of an issue that the door gets jammed in case of emergency the family can not use that door to exit the vehicle. the car sliding door was opening and closing, locked and unlocked properly only problem was the motor. i would appreciate if it can be seen.

Engine light came on while in route for an oil change. Walmart automotive changed the oil and checked the light. Read p0014. Engine light went away after oil change. Drove fine for 4 days then went haywire on the interstate. Oil light started flashing then engine light. Lost all power. Had it towed home. It started with a loud knocking noise. Towed to Kia and there are metal fragments in my oil. Engine blown.
