FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
Every time gas is filled to only the first click to stop or no click at all the car will stall after the fill. THE CAR STALLS EVERY TIME NOT ONCE IN AWHILE BUT EVERY TIME AFTER A FILL START IT UP THEN RUNS REAL RUFF AND STALLS AGAIN. Every time it is filled up. The car stalls while getting on the freeway or street. Dealer state it is the fuel roll over sensor built in the fuel tank. Jeep knows this is a problem they are passing the buck on to the car owners. This is a safety issue when the car stalls. I need to pull over every time this happens and it is every time. They have to fix and recall this safety issue.

Vehicle unable to reach speed above 30mph. Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) symbol shows up in error on dashboard. Unable to accelerate beyond 30mph. Vehicle drives with unstable and jerky motions. Have had this issue before and dealership mechanic reset computer, downloaded a system update to solve issue. This occurred about 2019. Issue has represented itself.

ENGINE, POWER TRAIN, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
The CVT fluid filler tube broke where the braket is, about 12 inches broke off. Dont know how long its been broken, I found it when I was changing the Electronic Throttle Body. This has happened to a lot of autos in the Chrysler family. Go to any Chrysler auto forum, I guarantee this will be something that has happened to 1 if not more people. Just google "broken cvt fluid filler tube" and it will all come up. This has to be a manufacture defect. Happening to too many people. They break at the same place, the bracket, no warning light indicator....nothing! It is usually found when something else is being done under the hood, then you see the broken piece just laying there. Thanking the Lord you and your family are ok, because had this piece of metal tubing broke off and went flying anything could have happened. This situation has not been confirmed by a dealer or independent service center nor has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance rep. I am providing pictures of the piece that broke off. I bought the vehicle used in July 2021, have had my vehicle serviced twice and noone has ever noticed the broken tube, I had to replace my battery in October 2021never noticed the broken piece. Only until I personally replaced the Electronic Throttle Body did I find the broken tube. And that was done yesterday Feb 19, 2022.

After filling up the gas tank, when I drive away, the car jerks and loses power for a minute with in a mile of leaving the gas station. Nj pumps gas for me so the tank is not overfilled. My power steering goes down for a moment as my car sputters. Then after a minute it drives great until the next time I fill up my tank. Forums have stated it is a bad charcoal cannister. Many jeep patriot owners have complained about this. It is very unsafe when this happens on the road. I fear driving my toddler now.

POWER TRAIN
The CVT transmission is failing before 60k miles and overheating during normal driving conditions. There were 2 prior owners before me and no vehicle history as to why it was traded into a dealer. No matter what I do the transmission heats rapidly and can only dissipate the heat would be to turn the heat on full blast.

On 10/27/2020, I financed a Jeep Patriot with 43K miles from Quality Chevrolet. Exactly 6 days later 11/02/2020, while I was on the way home from work in the evening; three sensor lights came on causing the vehicle to jolt / jerk / accelerate and become unsafe to drive. There were cars behind me, I turned on the hazard lights and my car went from 25 MPH to 2 MPH instantly. The lights were ABS, Traction and check engine. I immediately contacted the dealership since I had the Jeep for less than a week. I had to take the risk of driving the car in this condition for 6 miles on a highway back to the dealership, stopping every few minutes to shut off the Jeep and restart to try to reset the sensors, which seemed to work 2 minutes at a time. A drive that would normally take about 15 minutes took over an hour. My Jeep was being paid for weekly and still being serviced at the dealership- On 11/17/2020, I received a call from the dealership that they cleaned out the throttle body as recommended by Jeep and since that was the only sensor active at the time; they told me that no other lights were on so they were driving the Jeep to try to activate them. I was told by Quality Chevrolet that Jeep recommended to clean out the throttle and return to me, if the lights come back on, to go back to the dealer and replace the part. After weeks at Quality Chevrolet, my jeep was returned to me, however 5 days later on 12/07/2020 the same sensors came on in the middle of a highway when I was going about 55 MPH and it was raining I had to find a way to get my vehicle to safety and this caused a lot of anxiety as my kids were in the Jeep this time. I did not get into an accident by a miracle but now I was stranded on the highway. Til this day, Quality Chevrolet nor the 3 other places I have been to have been able to properly diagnose this problem that continues to happen without warning. My jeep will not go over 20 MPH, RPM stays on 2 and all sensors are active.

The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed with a faulty catalytic convertor. The contact was informed that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. While slowly accelerating from a stop, my 2016 Jeep Patriot engine stalled in the middle of a busy intersection. I lost power steering and & brakes and was luckily able to muscle the car over to the side of road out of traffic. I waited several minutes and restarted the engine which then operated normally afterward. This engine stalling has occurred repeatedly & more frequently (6+ times in last 10 days) while accelerating from a stop which is very dangerous in cross-traffiic intersections and on freeways. Additionally now, the engine rpm’s intermittently surge notably up and down +/- 2,000 rpm while driving with steady un-changing pressure on gas pedal. I have seen no engine failure indicators. I have had this vehicle serviced at two different independent repair shops that couldn’t re-create the problem & guessed it was the throttle body and then cleaned/serviced it. The problem persists more frequently, and is the exact problem listed in the S89 ChryslerJeep recall. My vin is not referenced in the recall notice-even though it is from the same Jeep manufacture period. This recall should definitely apply to my vehicle. I drive 40 freeway miles daily to work and am concerned for my safety and others. My vehicle is available for inspection if needed and I am bringing it tomorrow to a Jeep dealer in hopes of having it repaired under the recall. As the original new owner, I strongly feel that Chrysler Jeep needs to apply this recall to my vehicle and support their owner’s safety.

Vehicle occasionally makes a clicking sound in the dash by steering column. Only lasts few seconds. Happens when you either use key fob to unlock door (not even in vehicle yet) or when you start vehicle. Vehicle is usually not running when this happens. Also, several times my headlights came on for no reason the past few weeks draining the battery. Keys were hanging up in house when it happened!

SEATS
Active head rest deployed while the car was sitting unattended and unoccupied in my work parking lot. Came out of work to drive home and found my driver's side head rest had deployed. No signs that the car was hit. No warning signs previous to this. Scary to think it could've happened while I was driving, especially after reading stories of people facing concussions. Taking it to a dealer tomorrow but otherwise no inspections yet.

Fueling vehicle takes upwards of 15-20 minutes. I am worried it may have something to do with recall 12V142000 along with recall 13V120000. Which are both hazardous to the driver and passenger being that one may cause an accident and the other may result in death of the occupants.

Car shuts off after fueling. Is a common problem with other Jeep owners found on Google. My mechanic actually found the articles. Apparently it is a Rollover valve issue. Like others have suggested, not to fill the fuel tank full unless you want to pay over $1000 for a new gas tank. I don't want to drive in fear this car is going to keep shutting off. Why hasn't this been fixed when so many others have had the same issue?

While driving the car, the motor just stops running unexpectedly, with no warning at all. While driving on the highway it stopped running and had to try to control the car without the power steering because the car had stopped and muscled the car as it coasted to the side of the road, while getting the car to the berm. A semi truck was behind us and came very close to hitting us. I had to put the car in park, turn the key to off position and then restart it to resume driving. This a road hazard and accident waiting to happen. This has happened about a dozen of times within the past month and seems to be doing it more often. Also, when driving, with my foot on the gas pedal, it seems as if someone hits the brake for a second and jerks the car and resumes as if nothing has happened. After we got it the car start I called the dealership and told them what had happened, we took it in the same day, and picked it up the next day. We were told that they could not replicate what we had reported. They could not find anything wrong with the vehicle.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK VALVE WOULD CLOSE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REFUELED. BEAVER COUNTY DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM (2761 CONSTITUTION BLVD, BEAVER FALLS, PA 15010) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK ROLLOVER VALVE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED A FUEL TANK REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V142000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199073 also another time TL* my 2012 JEEP PATRIOT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE STALLEd THE THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT RELATED THE FAILURE TONHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V120000 . CAR STALLS AT EVERY STOP. WHILE DRIVING HIGH WAY SPEEDS FOR A FEW MINUTES IT DROPS DOWN IN SPEED CAUSING YOU CLOSE CALL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE IT IS VERY SUDDEN. IF I DRIVE THE JEEP AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP REGARDLESS IF AT STOP SIGN RED LIGHT OR BEHIND TRAFFIC THE CAR WILL TURN OFF HAVING ME TO TURN THE KEY IN OFF POSITION AND PUT IT IN PARK TO START IT AGAIN. IF I AM ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING I CAN BE GOING 45 MPH AND ALL OF SUDDEN THE JEEP STARTS DECLINING IN ITS ACCELERATION AND WILL NOT GO ABOVE 10MPH. ALSO WHEN INITIALLY STARTING UP IF I HAVE TO BACK UP IT TURNS OFF WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF BACKING UP. THIS ISSUE IS BEEN KNOWN TO HAPPEN TO A FEW PEOPLE WHO I KNOW THAT OWN THE SAME EXACT JEEP OR THE 2012 MODEL. ALSO HAVE HAD IT CHECKED OUT AND ONLY THING THAT POPS UP IS A CODE FOR THE GAS CAP WHICH I HAVE REPLACED AND STILL POPS THE CODE FOR IT
