My car suddenly broke down on the side of a busy highway halfway through my workday. When attempting to restart it, all warning lights came on on the dashboard and I could see white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe while the car shook. I had it towed to the nearest Hyundai dealership and they confirmed it was broken fuel injector(s). I do not have the broken piece to show as it is with the dealership. It has not been examined by police or insurance. No warning lights came on until after the car had suddenly slowed to a stop and I attempted to restart it.

- #11767493September 28, 2026ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:ALTERNATOR/GENERATOR/REGULATOR
The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving 50 MPH, there was a burning odor coming from the vents, with the battery warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the service center, where it was diagnosed with alternator failure. The contact was informed that the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that the alternator had been replaced three times with aftermarket parts and a fourth time with an OEM part. After inspecting the alternators, the contact noticed that the copper wires inside each alternator were black due to the failure. The contact was concerned that a previous recall associated with the failure did not properly fix the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure by telephone, and a case was opened. The contact also requested a buyback of the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.

- #11767565September 28, 2026SERVICE BRAKES
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced issues with the brakes on the driver's side. The vehicle was taken to both an independent mechanic and a dealer, where technicians from both locations diagnosed a brake system issue. Later, while driving at approximately 15 MPH, the contact noticed a yanking sensation before the vehicle began slowing down on its own. The contact drove the vehicle back to her residence, where she noticed a burning smell. Once stopped, she observed smoke and discovered that the brake caliper had caught on fire. The contact extinguished the fire herself using a garden hose, and the vehicle was subsequently towed to the dealer. The contact noted that weeks prior to this incident, the vehicle's brakes suddenly locked up on their own with no warning while driving at an undisclosed speed. The contact stated occasionally there was burning odor with smoke but could not tell where it was coming from. The dealer has confirmed that the ABS breaks need to be replaced. The contact stated the calipers were replaced twice before, now that the brakes had caught fire they recommend the ABS module to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000.

The "Consider Taking a Break" advisory comes on as far too often creating a dangerous distraction. As an example: when traveling on a straight road with the cruise control on and making no significant steering inputs other than that required to keep the vehicle going straight, the alert would come on about every 4 minutes. Sometimes it would repeat in as little as 1 minute. This went on for more than 40 miles on [XXX] between [XXX]. I was notified about a recall for the tow hitch wiring harness. I took it to the dealer to have it repaired. Instead of repairing it, they just removed the wiring harness from the vehicle. When I asked them when the actual repair would be completed they said they had no idea. The service manager at the Hyundai dealership told me that some of his customers were mad about not having a safe and working tow hitch package that they had paid for, after they removed the wiring harness, that they were taking their cars to U-Haul dealers to have tow hitch wiring harnesses installed. He also told me to call the Hyundai customer service hotline which I did. The hotline told me that they could not even tell me if they were even working on a permanent repair for my car. The recall for my car now states "COMPLETED", which is totally wrong. They simply removed the wiring harness, without doing any actual repairs, leaving the tow system completely inoperable and VERY unsafe to use. I am now left with a car that is now unsafe when towing a trailer due to it no longer having a wiring harness installed for it, so I now have no trailer lights.

On XXX, while driving at freeway speed in [XXX] with my [XXX] son in the back seat, the engine of my 2020 Hyundai Tucson (2.4L Theta II GDI, approx. 99,108 miles) seized suddenly and without warning. I lost all motive power in moving traffic and coasted to the shoulder, where my son and I sat stranded for 30 minutes with smoke and a burning smell coming from the engine while waiting for a tow. No warning lamps or messages appeared before the failure. COMPONENT FAILED: Engine. Tustin Hyundai ([XXX]) diagnosed the failure on RO XXX: engine seized; connecting rod pierced through the bottom of the engine block due to internal catastrophic failure at the crankshaft/bearings; starter had a burnt smell. The dealer recommends full long block replacement. The vehicle remains at Tustin Hyundai and is available for inspection upon request. CONFIRMED BY: Hyundai dealership technician (diagnosis on RO XXX) and an insurance adjuster (National General/Allstate claim XXX, Estimate of Record on file). A goodwill request was submitted to Hyundai Motor America and denied. RELEVANT DEFECT HISTORY: This is the same connecting rod bearing failure mode for which Hyundai extended a Limited Lifetime Warranty on 2018-2019 Tucson vehicles with the same Theta II 2.4L GDI engine (TSB 22-EM-001H-1/TXXI). Hyundai Service Campaign 9C2 (Theta II ECU software update, issued XXX) was open and incomplete on my VIN at the time of failure and was performed only at the post-failure service visit. Oil consumption without external leaks, a documented characteristic of this engine defect, was present before the failure. SAFETY RISK: Sudden total loss of motive power at highway speed in traffic with a child aboard created a serious risk of collision, and the 30-minute roadside wait exposed us to passing traffic. - #11766810September 24, 2026VISIBILITY/WIPER
I heard a loud bang from overhead when driving on the road in August 2026. There was no visible impact from road debris or any other object. Upon stopping and inspecting the vehicle, I found multiple stress cracks throughout the panoramic glass roof panel (part number 81620-N9000). The cracks radiate across the panel with no identifiable impact point, chip, or starburst. SAFETY RISK: The panel is cracked overhead of the front occupants. The bang was loud and startling while the vehicle was in motion, which is a distraction risk. If the panel fails completely, glass could fall onto occupants or exit the vehicle and strike following traffic. DEALER CONFIRMATION: Yes. Two Hyundai dealerships have inspected the panel and confirmed the cracking. Both declined warranty coverage and directed me to file a comprehensive insurance claim. Neither provided a documented impact point or a written technical explanation for the denial. MANUFACTURER INSPECTION: No inspection by Hyundai Motor America. I opened a case with Hyundai Consumer Affairs (case #43163493 and requested a Field Service Engineer inspection. As of 9/24/2026, I have received no response. No police or insurance inspection has occurred. WARNING SIGNS: UNKNOWN. I observed no prior cracks, chips, noises, or warning messages before the bang. The vehicle is a 2025 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid Limited with approximately 19000 miles

I took my car in to Allen Samuals Hyundai dealership to have the 9C2 recall update completed on May 15th 2026. Ever since then my vehicle has had a rough hesitation or sputtering when driving. On May 18th Hyundai released a statement stating there was an issue with the update completed on the 9C2 campaign. However no resolution at the moment and to allow the car to warm up prior to driving it. I have only had my car for a little over 2 years and maintained everything a responsible car owner should. It only has 90k miles on it and had zero issues at all prior to the 9C2 campaign. I have spoke woth dealer and corporate numerous times nobody can give me a solution nor does it seem that anyone wants to. Since then the campaign has been closed and its almost as if it never existed. I do have an active case open with Hyundai 43228380 however they act as if they dont know anything about it. They are empathetic to the situation but can't really help or give a solution. All I want it my car that had zero issues prior to this update to run properly again. I dont even drive it much anymore for fear that it will mess my engine up.

- #11766358September 23, 2026VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
While driving on the highway, the vehicle experienced sudden and complete loss of acceleration. When attempting to depress the accelerator pedal, the engine failed to respond causing the vehicle to continuously decelerate in active, high-speed traffic. This has occurred on multiple occasions, creating a severe crash hazard as trailing vehicles are forced to react or brake suddenly to avoid a rear-end collision.

ENGINE and RECALL NOTIFICATION MALFUNCTION: My 2015 Hundai Tuscon exerperienced a catastrophic engine failure/seizure while driving. Hyundai is denying an engine replacement under their extended warranty under the KSDS software update (Campaign 966) because the software update wasn't completed. However, Hyundai failed to notify me of this requirement; I purchased the automobile in Jan 2024. The KSDS recall was sent out in 2021. I recently received an official physical mailer from Hyundai Motor America titled 'IMPORTANT VEHICLE SERVICE REQUIRED' for my VIN. On that official notice, there is a dedicated section explicitly titled 'OTHER RECALLS AND/OR IMPROVEMENT REPAIRS NEEDED (associated with my VIN).' Hyundai corporate left this b ox completely blank, officially misinforming me that no other active campaigns existed for my vehicle. This represents a critical malfunction in Hyundai's automated recall and campaign notification mailing systems, which actively misleads consumers and keeps them in the dark about mandatory preservation updates. Either Hyundai's automated notification systems completely failed to inform me of mandatory nature of Campaign 966 - which is directly proven by my official printed mailer leaving the open campaign box completely blank - or the service was performed during a prior dealership visit and failed to register in the corporate database due to an administrative tracking error. I am requesting an audit of the vehicle's engine control module ROM ID to confirm if the calibration updates is physically present on the vehicle computer

- #11765900September 21, 2026TIRES:TREAD/BELT, TIRES:SIDEWALL
All four factory-installed Nexen tires on my brand-new 2025 Hyundai Tucson are experiencing severe, premature dry-rotting, weather cracking, and deep splitting along both the sidewalls and within the tread grooves at just 16,000 miles. The DOT code is 2224, meaning the rubber is barely two years old. The vehicle's safety is severely compromised because widespread, deep dry rot on relatively new rubber creates an immediate risk of catastrophic tread separation or a blowout at highway speeds. This issue was brought to an authorized service provider, who documented the extensive cracking but rejected a standard treadwear claim because the tires still have deep tread depth remaining. Nexen Corporate (Claim #260805I13) subsequently denied a workmanship claim, falsely blaming "environmental exposure" despite the vehicle and tires being roughly one year old. The tires have not been inspected by police or insurance, but the components are fully available for inspection upon request. There were no warning lights or symptoms prior to visually identifying the severe cracking. (All tire sizes: 235-65-17)

- #11765922September 21, 2026POWER TRAIN
Component: Power Train / Automatic Transmission / ActuatorsDescription: My 2016 Hyundai Tucson (1.6L Turbo 7-speed DCT) suffered a catastrophic transmission assembly failure that caused a sudden and dangerous loss of forward motive power while driving. The vehicle completely refused to engage forward gears, creating an immediate traffic hazard.A certified Hyundai dealership diagnosed the vehicle and pulled fault codes P073F73, P073F77 (Unable to Engage Gear 1), and P092177 (Gear Shift Forward Actuator Circuit Performance). These codes explicitly confirm a total mechanical and electrical failure of the transmission shift actuators. This failure mirrors the exact safety risks and clutch-slippage/engagement defects outlined in federal Safety Recall Campaign 149 (NHTSA Campaign Number 16V574000). Hyundai Corporate refused to provide any goodwill coverage, citing that the vehicle is out of its standard warranty period. However, the failure of these actuators is a direct consequence of the known, recurring manufacturing defect that prompted the initial federal safety recall. The vehicle remains an unresolved safety hazard.

I am reporting a suspected safety defect involving my daughter's 2017 Hyundai Tucson, VIN [XXX], with approximately 77,940 miles. The vehicle experienced an engine failure beginning with the illumination of the oil-pressure warning light and Check Engine Light, followed by a pronounced engine knocking noise. The vehicle subsequently could not continue running. The vehicle was inspected by a Hyundai dealership, which diagnosed an engine failure. I am aware of Hyundai Safety Recall 209 / NHTSA Recall 21V-727 involving certain 2017 Hyundai Tucson vehicles equipped with the 2.0-liter Nu GDI engine. Hyundai's recall documentation identifies premature connecting-rod-bearing wear and specifically identifies abnormal engine knocking and illumination of the oil-pressure warning light as symptoms that can precede engine damage and stalling. My daughter's vehicle experienced these same symptoms. Hyundai has informed us that this particular VIN is not included in Recall 209 and Hyundai Motor America has denied our request for assistance. I am therefore asking NHTSA to review this complaint as a potential safety defect and determine whether there may be additional 2017 Tucson vehicles outside the current Recall 209 population experiencing the same or substantially similar engine failure. I am not claiming that the vehicle is definitively covered by Recall 209. Rather, I am asking NHTSA to investigate whether the exclusion of this vehicle is appropriate given the similarity between the actual failure symptoms and the defect identified in Recall 209. I can provide the dealership's diagnostic documentation, Hyundai Motor America's denial, photographs, maintenance records, and other supporting information upon request. Vehicle: 2017 Hyundai Tucson, VIN: [XXX], Mileage: Approximately 77,940 miles Failure: Engine knocking, oil-pressure warning light, Check Engine Light, engine failure/stalling Related Recall: Hyundai Recall 209 / NHTSA 21V-727.
