Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot, and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. My 2023 Honda Odyssey (approximately 38,000 miles) has an intermittent no-crank/no-start condition. Pressing the push-button start produces no crank at all; the engine only starts on exactly the fourth press, consistently. The battery was tested and is good. The condition worsened noticeably after a high-pressure car wash, suggesting moisture intrusion. This matches Honda Technical Service Bulletin 23-023 ("Engine Does Not Crank"), which covers 2018–2023 Odysseys and attributes the defect to water entering the starter motor. The vehicle is about 2,000 miles past the 36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty. I am concerned the condition will degrade without warning and leave my family — including small children — stranded. The vehicle is scheduled for diagnosis at Tracy Honda in [XXX] on XXX. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Engine restart failure when I try to start driving after stop for the traffic light. Engine turned off automatically. Experienced 4-5 times.

My 2023 Honda Odyssey experienced a serious malfunction of the Auto Idle Stop system at approximately 32,987 miles. While stopped at a traffic light, the engine automatically shut off as designed but failed to restart when I attempted to move forward. This created a dangerous situation because my vehicle was unable to move when the traffic light changed, potentially putting me, my entire family at risk of a rear-end collision. The vehicle's battery had been replaced only a few months earlier, so this problem occurred despite having a relatively new battery. After researching the issue online, I found numerous reports of similar Auto Idle Stop failures involving Honda Odyssey vehicles. This appears to be a recurring safety concern rather than an isolated incident. To my knowledge, there is currently no applicable recall providing a free repair for my vehicle. I believe this is a significant safety defect that Honda should investigate and address at no cost to affected owners. A vehicle should not unexpectedly fail to restart in active traffic, regardless of its age or mileage. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and determine whether a safety recall is warranted.

My 2023 Honda Odyssey, VIN [XXX], has developed an unusually loud noise from the engine compartment when I press the accelerator. The vehicle was purchased in XXX and currently has approximately 78,800 miles. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and did not identify an internal engine problem. The mechanic suspects that the high-pressure fuel pump may be the source of the abnormal noise, but this has not yet been confirmed by a Honda dealership. I am concerned that the noise could indicate a developing fuel-system defect and would like this issue documented and reviewed for any potential safety implications. I request that NHTSA investigate whether similar reports involving the 2023 Honda Odyssey indicate a defect that may warrant a safety recall. I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2023 Honda Odyssey. The airbag/SRS warning light suddenly came on while the vehicle was being driven normally. The vehicle has never been involved in a collision or accident. I have a diagnostic trouble code related to the airbag system. I contacted Honda's Recall Department and provided them with the diagnostic trouble code. Honda told me that I must take the vehicle to a Honda dealer for diagnosis before they will determine whether the problem is related to a recall or safety defect. The dealer told me that I may have to pay approximately $210 for the diagnostic inspection. I am concerned because this involves the vehicle's airbag safety system. I believe this could potentially be a safety-related defect, and I would like NHTSA to document and review this complaint and determine whether there are similar complaints, investigations, recalls, or manufacturer communications involving this issue. Vehicle: 2023 Honda Odyssey Mileage: approximately 41,000 miles No collision or accident occurred before the warning appeared. I have the diagnostic trouble code available and can provide it if requested.
