Automatic emergency brake bleeps warning and brakes get locked while driving. This happens all the the without any objects nearby or vehicles close enough to initiate the emergency brake. Emergency brake engages and locks itself in normal driving conditions. This has happened multiple times, and put the driver in serious hazard in busy traffic.

I have a 2019 Honda Fit Sport. Within the last year, the instrument panel with all notifications regarding the vehicle, such as the fuel level, check engine light, low tire pressure light, low oil pressure, and any notifications regarding the braking systems, began flickering intermittantly. Now the instrument panel is completely blank. This has been confirmed by the Capital Honda in Lansing, Michigan when I took the vehicle in for service. This appears to be a common issue as I found numerous forums online that indicate that this is an issue with multiple years of the Honda Fit, but other Honda models as well. This is a safety issue because if any of these notifications should be on but cannot display because of a faulty instrument panel, I would never know. The car could run out of gas, the brakes could fail or the engine could fail and I would not know until it was too late.

While driving the emission system problem warning came up on my dash with the check engine light. After this happened it became incredibly hard to accelerate the engine. I was driving on the freeway and attempting to merge putting my life and my families at risk because the engine was trying to accelerate but sputtering and stopping for a moment instead. It hasn’t been inspected by police, but went to dealer and got code P219A and was told this was a faulty fuel injector. This was the first time this had happened and no other warning lights came on before the emission system problem that popped up on the dash.

The odometer is completely useless, unable to tell mileage, fuel level and such. Several reports online of the same issue with honda fits. I could run out of gas unexpectedly, I don't know when its time to change oil.

The rear door window motors both failed. At the time of this report they are available for inspection. The safety risk is that back seat passengers could become trapped in the event of a water entry which makes doors difficult or impossible to open. Because the rear windows are typically operated less than the front, the average user would not expect that they have failed (especially if the fronts are working) and the failure would likely go unnoticed, possibly until the emergency situation occurs. The vehicle has not been checked or inspected by any dealer, service center, manufacturer, police, insurance representative, or any person other than myself. However, I have checked the fuses and verified with a voltmeter that the switches have power and are operating correctly thus isolating the failure to the motors. There is no warning lamp or message indicating that the window motors are not functional and I did not experience any symptoms other than the window not moving when the switches were depressed. I noticed the left rear failure first in July 2023 and at that time the right rear was still functional. Approximately a month later the right rear failed. I only thought to make this report because when I searched the internet for troubleshooting and replacement parts I found quite a few other accounts of a variety of Honda models with rear window failure many of them were both, and several auto mechanics indicated that this issue was common. Unless the rear doors use different motors than the front doors, it is possible that the root cause is a wiring/electrical problem and electrical problems have a reputation of eventually causing other seemingly unrelated problems elsewhere in the system.

At 74k miles my check engine light came on randomly. Took the car to a mechanic, who turned the light off and advised me to tighten the gas cap. A few weeks later the check engine light came back on. Auto zone said a spark plug needed replacement. About a week later the check engine light, along with many other lights came on. After a lot of research I learned that there is a recurring issue with Hondas (plural) and their fueling system due to direct injection. Leading to misdiagnosis, replacing unnecessary parts, only to be left with a check engine light. Luckily, I received a letter from honda informing me of the warranty extension for certain Fits due to carbon buildup and misfires. I took my fit to the dealer and shared my concerns with the service advisor. I took it to the experts in hopes that if it was a misfire with a DTC of P0300-P0304, they would surely get it right the first time. A few hours later I was informed they found DTC P0420, meaning the catalytic converted needed to be changed. Ignition coils were also faulty, therefore affecting the catalytic converter. CC was covered under the emissions warranty but coils were not. They could not/would not replace the CC unless I agreed to replace the coils. Despite me sharing my concerns the advisor failed to mention the DTC for the coils, which turned out to be P0304. I replaced the coils and CC, paid $885. When I read the invoice and saw DTC P0304, I got upset and asked a different advisor why the carbon cleaning wasn’t performed instead of changing the coils. I was told there wasn’t enough carbon buildup to be the root of the problem and that the technician had years of experience and I could rest assured there was no other way. Fine. I take the car, less than 48 hours later, my check engine light comes on again. I take the car back. This time I am told the car is showing DTC P2198 and they recommend replacing the fuel injectors and fuel pipe! No DTC misfire, so unable to perform carbon cleanup.

- #11548868October 8, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) consistently provides a false positive when approaching a particular railroad crossing near my home. When about 20 yards away from the crossing (a single set of tracks) approaching at 30-35mph, the BRAKE warning flashes and beeps for a second or two, but it's not clear that any actual braking is applied. This does not happen if I slow to about 20mph or less before approaching the crossing. At this particular railroad crossing, the road is going downhill towards the tracks and the tracks cross the road at 90degrees. This happens day or night (there are street lights at this crossing). The forward collision warning distance is set to Normal. At other railroad crossings where the road is level or going uphill towards the tracks, I have not experienced this issue.

- #11548621October 6, 2023SEAT BELTS
The rear left seatbelt is frayed where it meets the interior wall of the car behind the rear passenger door. This seat has never been used by any passengers that I can recall and only happened to notice it while cleaning. It was inspected by a Honda dealer and was advised it was not covered under warranty as it was usual wear and tear despite it never being used. After looking online, others have experienced the same issue on the same side of the rear passenger seat with third generation (2015+) Honda Fit vehicles. Since it is not being used, it is available to be inspected prior to replacing the defective seat belt.

Main display that shows mileage, gas levels, maintenance needs, etc malfunctions - sometimes it goes wonky, sometimes it disappears altogether. It is obviously not safe to not see your maintenance lights or mileage to know when to predict the maintenance. The dealer I take the car to said unless they could replicate the issue, they couldn't do anything. The issue occurs intermittently, often in the middle of a drive, but not currently constant. There are many many other people tho on Honda forums who have this problem also, and theirs is constant, so it's just a matter of time for mine to be constant as well. The issue started earlier this year. There is no error code associated with it so there is no diagnosis for the dealer to give it.

- #11546328September 25, 2023LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES
The contact owns a 2011 Honda Fit. The contact stated that the rear passenger and driver's side doors failed to open. The occupants in the rear seats were unable to exit the vehicle. The occupants had to climb over the seat and exit through the front doors. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the door lock actuators needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Vehicle has 16,000 miles on the odometer. Fuel gauge on the right side of the panel often blanks out. Sometimes it comes back when tapped with a finger. Sometimes it flickers while driving. This appears to be a very common problem with this vehicle but has not yet been recalled.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Fit. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle hesitated and started to shake. The check engine warning light intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel injectors had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone where a diagnostic test was performed and produced DTC code: P0420 (Catalyst System Low Efficiency). Additionally, the contact stated that he independently replaced the spark plugs, ignition coils, and the injectors however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that his brother was an independent mechanic and was able to use a code reader and retrieved DTC code: P0420. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

THIS IS MY SECOND SUBMISSION!!!!!! PLEASE HELP!!!! 2018 Honda Fit Saleena - 1:39 pm EST Submitted for the formal complaint about the harassment and discrimination related to All honda dealerships, Kyle Mitchell and Shakaia (Rep from previous call). Case Management / and Supervisor is reviewing. If the manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, Please contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at: 1-888-327-4236 or TTY: 1-800-424-9153 or file an online complaint with NHTSA. My company vehicle has fluid leaking on the floor, the check engine light constantly coming on, the rear camera is intermittently inoperable and it smells like something has died in it (mold/mildew). Since I have owned the vehicle, I have reported these issues to Honda dealerships and they have claimed to fix the problems. I paid for an extended warranty and each time the dealership forced me to pay for repeat issues that repeatedly continued to happen. The battery died more than once right after I purchased it. The car had to be towed a few times because of the electrical battery issue. The fluid that was leaking on the floor caused my leg, lungs and mental health to suffer. I am currently under doctors care for the mechanical issues the car has caused. This is my company vehicle and it has been at Honda of Covington since April 2023. American Honda has refused to help me get to the bottom of why multiple dealerships have refused to fix the vehicle.

Over last 2-3 years (50-70k miles), intermittent but now more consistent and loud grinding sound that lasts <1 second after push to start. Only occurs typically on a cold start (after engine has been sitting >12 hours, typically in garaged/cooler ambient temperature). Otherwise no issues with performance, no error messages. This is a known issue with VTC actuator (Honda released TSB 16-088) for this. I was told by the dealer that this can lead to catastrophic failure with the engine as it relates to the timing belt and the drivetrain. I was quoted $2100 for this repair. If it is true that there is a known defect that can lead to catastrophic failure, this should be covered by an extended warranty or recall.

Like 4 others on NHTSA, I am reporting intermittent cold start rattle coming from the VTC actuator. I have tried the following: cleaning the intake valves, changing the oil every 3k miles, using a high quality oil filter with a silicone drain back valve, and using Top Tier fuel on every fuel up. 2015-2016 Honda Fits have a TSB regarding this issue, and my 2017 Honda Fit also has this issue. @HondaMotorCompany, please right this design defect by releasing a TSB. I recommend replacing the VTC Actuator (Part#:14310-5R1-013), CAM CHAIN (Part#:14401-5K9-004), CAM CHAIN TENSIONER ARM (Part#:14520-5R0-003) and CAM CHAIN TENSIONER (Part#:14510-5R1-003). Thank you. My check engine light came on, but shut off by the time I was able to see a repair shop. I needed a smog, but they decided to check my car first to see why the light came on and went away. It had to do with the fuel injector/catalytic converter. He wanted me to drive it a bit and come back to see if it would go away. It did not, even though my lights remained off and the car was operating fine. Had I not needed the smog check, I would have canceled the appointment and not known. After doing research, it is common for fuel injectors on my car to fail due to a faulty part. Honda issued an extended warranty, but even after calling for more information, they were unhelpful. I ended up paying $3,000 to resolve this. My car is a 2015 and just hit 85k miles. Honda should be informing owners of this issue.
