The steering wheel acts as it is sticking in place when driving down the highway and requires a greater than typical force to free the wheel. This mostly causes the wheel to overcorrect and the vehicle to jolt across the lane and sometimes out of the lane. Minute changes in steering angle required to maintain lane position become virtually impossible resulting in erratic steering inputs. I am aware that this is a common issue across multiple years of Honda Civic. I was told that the dealer will diagnose this issue as a faulty steering rack with a repair cost of ~$4,000. No warning lamps illuminate indicating a problem with the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact called another local dealer, Larry Hopkins (1048 W El Camino Real, Sunnyvale, CA 94087); but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Steering wheel sticks when trying to slightly move it side to side, Honda dealership has told me 2 times that the steering rack and pinion recall does not apply to my vehicle. I work at a ford dealership and the foreman drove the car and agreed that there is something wrong with steering.

After the recent fuel pump recall repair, there has been a smell of gasoline for about a month, bad enough that it seems unsafe to keep the car in the garage. (There is no smell of gasoline inside the car.) Fuel mileage has consistently been about 2 mpg lower. The problem is especially bad after refueling, and gradually gets better as the tank empties. The problem returns with the next refueling. There seem to be many cars in the same situation. There is inadequate work dealing with this recall, and dealers are not fixing what they broke, despite the hazard.

Steering is uneven and unpredictable, sticky. I suspect this is from the gearbox issue identified by others. Steering wheel feels firm when turning slightly then quickly releases, causing the car to over steer. This is most noticeable when at highway speed, typically 70 mph on my work commute. This has been getting worse. First noticed at about 20,000 miles, around a year ago. Car now has 35,800 miles.

2022 Honda Civic has developed a condition where the steering wheel has begun to catch when making slight adjustments from the neutral position of the steering wheel. It is becoming more prominent over the last week and I am concerned that it will take increasing force to overcome and causing an overreaction on the road when it overcomes the area where it catches.

The power steering sticks when driving at highway speed in straight line. Any steering corrections are difficult and could cause over correction and loss of vehicle control.

CMBS automatically and unexpectedly deploys for no reason: there is no car or obstacle in front of the car. This has happened multiple times. I have taken the car to the dealer twice with this complaint and they were unable to duplicate the issue, so I was told they couldn't find anything wrong. I now disable the system each and every time I start the car because if I don't, I foresee a circumstance when freeway driving that I would be severely rear-ended, causing me major injury, or even death.

Car has been exhibiting sticky steering problem. Small adjustments require above average force to keep centered and the car ends up over compensating.

The steering is sticking when correcting in the lane. The car is at a dealership now getting checked out. It puts others and your self in danger due to over correcting causing you to swerve. It’s very scary. This is the second time this issue has happened. The first time it happened in December of 2023. It was repaired and retuned to me in January 2024. Everything was great until September 2024 that is when it started sticking again. It happens at hiway speeds in the beginning but after driving for about 30 mins it happens at 35 as well.

Once again while driving on the interstate at highway speed the car lost power and then died. At first it wouldn’t start and then finally did where it could be slowly driven to an exit for safety. I 100% think this vehicle needs included in the fuel pump recall! This is probably the 30th time it has done this. This is my 19 year old daughter’s car and it is very unsafe. We bought a Honda because we heard they are very good and safe and reliable cars. This hasn’t proven to be that! We can’t afford to just get another car or pay to have it fixed. I know there are many other Hondas with this recall in effect! Add this VIN number. I have reported this issue multiple times! Do better Honda and fix my daughters car before she gets in an accident that could injure or even kill her!

For a while now (months), we have noticed our 2016 Honda Civic has had a "sticky" (a click or jerk) feeling when handling the steering wheel, particularly while driving on the freeway, holding long turns, or when even reversing (from an angle) into a parking stall (for the parking, a click/pop is audibly heard). Basically, the steering wheel will suddenly shift/jerk slightly left/right, which causes you to no longer be steering in the exact line you were on. Driver has to then correct by making an opposing shift in the opposite direction to return to the exact line that was being driven. It is a bit of a nuisance, and produces anxiety on the driver's part, leaving one wondering if/when the shift/jerk will cause even larger of an issue, potentially posing risk of harm to the vehicle's and neighboring vehicles' riders via a collision. Our Honda service technician recently confirmed, after our recent big maintenance service, that this issue is present and has something to do with some steering mechanism (I don't recall the correct term of the equipment/device), and that an estimated repair cost would be $3,000-$4,000. For now, we have been advised to monitor, and that basically it is up to us to decide if/when we would like to spend $3,000-$4,000 to have this repaired at our own expense. We are not aware of how this issue arose (what the exact cause is), but is potentially due manufacturing. There are no dashboard warning lights that illuminate during the shifting/jerking of the steering. We just feel it, moreso if you are the one driving. This issue is experienced daily. Our primary concern is prevention of a collision. We do not want it to get to the point of having had a collision/emergency, then reactively reporting the issue to NHTSA. And we do not have funds to purchase a new vehicle. Can we possibly have more confidence in this vehicle being able to transport our family safely without fear of steering issues? Thank you for your support.

At highway speeds car steering gets stuck causing driver to correct steering, which causes car to bind. Extremely dangerous as in highway speeds can cause a hazard to driver as well as other drivers on the road.

I was driving at highway speeds, randomly all brake system warning lights come on. All ADAS systems are inop, EPB is inop, my brake pedal would get soft intermittently while braking. Multiple DTC’s were stored every visit. I was almost in multiple accidents because of this issue. It took over 6 visit to local Hondas dealer to get this issue fixed. All they would say “oh the codes don’t mean there is a problem” Honda is not warranting their cars. I contacted corporate and they did not care.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V858000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated the vehicle hesitated while starting. Additionally, while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle was hesitating. The failure was intermittent. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who inquired if the check engine warning light had illuminated. The contact informed the dealer that there were no warning lights illuminated during the failure. The dealer informed the contact that since there was no warning light illuminated, the vehicle would not be inspected under recall until November 2024. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 109,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
