The contact owns a 2019 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 15 MPH into a parking lot on a hot day, a loud booming sound resembling a gunshot occurred upon depressing the brake pedal. No exterior damage was observed. Upon opening the trunk, the contact discovered plastic debris, screws, and springs from the trunk spring assembly. The dealer was contacted and advised that no recall coverage was available. The dealer stated that the failure might have been caused by hydraulic pressure. The required replacement parts were initially backordered but later became available. The contact found similar complaints regarding the issue and associated the failure with TSB Number: 22-013/A22-013. The manufacturer was notified by phone and filed a case; however, the manufacturer confirmed the repair was not covered under warranty or the TSB. The failure mileage was approximately 63,797.

While driving on a public roadway, the tempered rear windshield spontaneously shattered with a violent, extremely loud pop resembling a gunshot. There was no vehicle ahead of me, no overpass, and absolutely no external object or projectile impacted the glass. The glass immediately webbed entirely across the surface from edge to edge due to internal stress, but is currently being held in place by window tint film. This year and model (2006 Honda Civic 2-door coupe) has a historical NHTSA recall for rear glass adhesion failure (Recall 06V326000). This spontaneous failure created an immediate, severe distraction and vision hazard while operating the vehicle at speed.

I own a 2019 Honda Civic Hatchback LX that has experienced ongoing air conditioning system failures. Initially, the A/C would blow cold air at night or in cooler temperatures but struggled to provide adequate cooling during warmer weather. Over time, the problem became progressively worse until the A/C stopped producing cold air altogether. I brought my vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership, where the A/C system was inspected. The dealership identified issues involving components covered under Honda's extended A/C warranty and also diagnosed a leaking evaporator. Although Honda agreed to cover certain components under its warranty extension, the evaporator was excluded, leaving me with an estimated $3,000 repair expense. I also contacted Honda regarding goodwill assistance, but my request was denied. My concern is that multiple components within the same A/C system have experienced failures, and repairing the components covered under Honda's warranty does not fully resolve the problem when the evaporator is also leaking. After researching this issue, I found numerous reports from other Honda Civic owners experiencing similar A/C failures. Some owners have reported that even after having their A/C systems repaired, refrigerant leaks or other A/C failures return within approximately 3–4 years, resulting in repeated repairs and expenses. I am concerned that these repairs may only provide temporary relief rather than addressing the underlying causes of the failures. This creates a frustrating and potentially expensive cycle in which owners repeatedly repair or replace A/C components, only to experience similar problems again years later. I am particularly concerned that Honda has acknowledged problems with certain A/C components through warranty extensions while leaving the evaporator excluded, despite reports of similar failures. The loss of air conditioning significantly affects cabin cooling, especially during high temperatures. I am also concerned about th

While driving, the vehicle consistently exhibits a “wandering” or drifting sensation, especially at highway speeds. The steering wheel does not sit centered when driving straight, and small corrections are constantly required to keep the vehicle in its lane. This behavior has been present despite the tires being properly inflated and the vehicle having relatively low mileage. The wandering sensation makes the vehicle feel unstable and reduces driver confidence, particularly during longer trips or when sharing the road with other vehicles. The off‑center steering wheel suggests a possible issue with the steering system, steering angle sensor, alignment from the factory, or an electronic steering calibration problem. The issue has not been resolved and continues to occur. No warning lights or messages have appeared. The problem can be reproduced consistently during normal driving. UNKNOWN whether the manufacturer has formally inspected the steering components or electronic steering system.

After driving for 20 minutes or more and especially on hotter days my steering sticks. It is very noticeable when going in a straight line. It feels as if it gets stuck in a notch and I have to give it extra pressure to move the car which results in overcorrecting.

On September 27, 2026, at approximately 90,800 miles, the body control module (BCM) in my 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback failed. Symptoms included the alarm sounding on its own, warning lights illuminating on the dash, the vehicle turning its accessories on unprompted while parked (key fob was present), the battery draining, and the key fob intermittently not being recognized.

This car had a previous safety recall for steering components "sticking", creating an unsafe driving situation. The recall was performed, however the problem still persists and the steering is still unsafe, sticking, and jerks left to right. This possesses an actual risk of motor vehicular crash, injury, or death. Regardless of how careful of a driver you are, the steering will veer unexpectedly.

While using Adaptive Cruise Control set to the longest following distance on open roads with no vehicle ahead, the car suddenly applies the brakes as if detecting an obstacle. This also occurs when vehicles pass on two-lane roads. The braking is unexpected and creates a risk of being rear-ended. The issue happens repeatedly under normal driving conditions.

Upon starting the car, all of a sudden, the IMID display area screen went white. I turned off the car and I restarted it, and it turned white and then immediately went black. There were no warning lamps or messages prior to the incident. So now I do not get alerts for an open door or tire pressure or maintenance and other notifications. This is a concern, especially when have young children in the vehicle.

The air conditioning condenser failed prematurely due to a known manufacturing defect covered under Honda's 10-year warranty extension (TSB 19-091), but the dealership, Stokes Honda North and American Honda Motor Co.’s refused to honor the coverage. I reside in Charleston, South Carolina, where summer temperatures and humidity levels are extreme. Because of this defect, the vehicle's cabin becomes dangerously hot within minutes. I frequently transport my two young children in this vehicle, and the lack of functional climate control places them at an immediate risk for severe heat exhaustion, dehydration, and heat-related illness. Furthermore, the failure of the AC system means the vehicle can no longer properly dehumidify the cabin air. During sudden South Carolina rainstorms, the windshield and windows instantly fog over, rendering the defroster useless. This causes an immediate, severe loss of visibility while driving on high-speed roads, creating a catastrophic safety hazard for myself, my children, and other drivers.

I am filing this complaint regarding repeated problems with my Honda’s A/C system. The repair history includes a leaking evaporator, which I paid for out of pocket; a failed A/C compressor, replaced under warranty; an A/C compressor shaft seal, also replaced under warranty; another compressor issue; and now an expansion valve that I am being told I must pay to replace. My concern is that the vehicle has been inspected and repaired multiple times for the same A/C system. If the expansion valve is now causing or contributing to the problem, why was it not identified during the previous repairs? I have already paid for the evaporator repair and repeatedly returned the vehicle because the A/C continues to fail. I do not believe it is reasonable to continue charging me for one component after another when the underlying problem has not been properly resolved. I am requesting that Honda and/or the dealership cover the expansion valve repair, including parts and labor, and fully inspect the A/C system to ensure the root cause is corrected. I also request an explanation as to why the expansion valve was missed during the previous repairs and why I should now be financially responsible for another related A/C repair after multiple prior attempts to fix the system.

The front tires on this vehicle have suffered premature wear and are already 50% worn out at only 11,000 miles. Certified Tire Technicians at Town Fair Tire inspected the vehicle during my routine tire rotation. The technician confirmed this level of wear is highly abnormal for this mileage. There is a suspected steering alignment or front suspension defect from the factory causing the vehicle to drift and pull at highway speeds, creating a potential safety hazard and premature tire wear.

I am reporting a potentially serious steering safety problem with my 2018 Honda Civic, which currently has approximately 84,000 miles. While driving, the steering develops a sticking or notchy condition, particularly when making small steering corrections. The steering wheel resists movement and requires additional force to overcome the resistance. When sufficient force is applied, the steering can suddenly release and move. This makes smooth steering corrections difficult and creates a risk of overcorrection. I am particularly concerned about this behavior because it affects the driver's ability to make small, controlled steering corrections and therefore may affect safe control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Honda dealer for evaluation. Initially, in 2024 when the problem became noticeable the proposed repair to correct the steering problem was $ 3,827.36, as of today (10-04-2026) the problem became worse and the proposed repair has a total cost of approximately $5,391.10. I contacted American Honda regarding the problem. Honda agreed to provide partial goodwill assistance of approximately $2,003, leaving approximately $3,388 for me to pay. Incidentally, this is the amount that was supposed to pay in 2024. I accepted the partial assistance because I considered the steering condition a safety concern and did not want to delay the repair while continuing to dispute the cost. I am submitting this complaint because I believe NHTSA should have a record of this steering behavior on a 2018 Honda Civic and determine whether similar complaints exist involving this model and model year. The repair is currently being completed. I will retain the dealer's final repair order, diagnosis, parts information, and invoice in case additional information is required.

I am reporting a serious and recurring safety defect involving my 2025 Honda Civic Sport Touring Hybrid. This is the second occurrence of a serious vehicle malfunction, and the vehicle has experienced numerous other significant problems during my ownership. During the most recent incident, I was traveling approximately 45 MPH when the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power. I was unable to accelerate, the vehicle shut off while I was in the middle of the roadway, and the vehicle subsequently went into limp mode. At the same time, the vehicle displayed multiple warning lights and safety-system warnings, which I documented in a video. The ABS system is still not functioning, and the electronic parking brake is also not functioning. Other vehicle safety/driver-assistance features are also unavailable. Before and during this incident, the check-engine light was flashing. The vehicle was also shaking severely and making extremely abnormal engine noises. The check-engine light later became solid, but the vehicle continued to have serious problems. I had the vehicle scanned and received a diagnostic report showing confirmed and permanent diagnostic trouble codes P1659 and P2108. The diagnostic report recommends replacing power relay(s). P1659 concerns the Electronic Throttle Control System (ETCS) control relay, and P2108 concerns Throttle Actuator Control Module performance. I am extremely concerned because this is not simply a check-engine-light issue. The vehicle lost power and shut off while traveling approximately 45 MPH, leaving me unable to accelerate while in traffic. The vehicle then entered limp mode, while critical safety systems, including ABS and the electronic parking brake, remained unavailable. This is the second occurrence of a serious malfunction involving this vehicle. I have also experienced several other significant problems with this vehicle during my ownership, including a substantial water leak that allowed water to enter the vehicle and ca

Dear Secretary Duffy and NHTSA Leadership, I am writing to ask the Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to take a closer look at the increasing problem of excessive headlight glare on American roads and to consider updating federal headlight standards to better reflect modern lighting technology. I recently watched a video by Car Coach Reports highlighting this issue, and it immediately resonated with me because excessive headlight glare has become a serious problem in my own life since moving to [XXX]. Many people here drive newer vehicles equipped with extremely bright headlights, and the difference is especially noticeable when I am driving my 2014 Honda Civic. I am only [XXX] old, yet I have reached the point where I am genuinely apprehensive about driving after dark. If even one vehicle with these extremely bright headlights is approaching me—or driving behind me—the glare can make it very difficult for me to clearly see the road, surrounding traffic, pedestrians, or lane markings. When the light is coming from behind me, it can also reflect through my mirrors and interfere with my vision. A driver should not have to choose between looking directly at painful glare or temporarily losing the ability to clearly see what is happening around them. I worry about what this means not only for people like me, but especially for older drivers and others whose vision may be more sensitive to glare. I respectfully urge DOT and NHTSA to review whether current standards sufficiently protect drivers from excessive glare and, where appropriate, reduce allowable light levels or adopt other requirements that make nighttime driving safer for everyone. A test on the public in places like [XXX] (with early adopters of technology) may be a good next step. A survey of people in lower-riding cars (and cars in general) who fear driving at night due to excessive glare by default from newer model cars. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C.
