The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving 20 MPH, the vehicle came to an abrupt stop without warning. The contact waited for several minutes before resuming normal driving. The contact stated that the failure was caused by the rear brakes. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
Collision Avoidance comprised of Following Gap and Alarm / Auto Braking does not function. One dealer after two trips and unable to repair stated that GM is working on a new software update and until that is available repair is not possible. No date was provided by dealer or GM customer service as to when this update would be available. Second dealer stated that system was in fact not functioning, and asked me to return in a couple days, so he could research the issue, He knew nothing about a pending update. Both dealers stated that no alarms or codes were present in spite of failure.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the Forward Collision Avoidance, distance indicator, and the Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking failed to work as intended. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed; however, a software update was performed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where the system was updated. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V133000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was unknown.

Vehicle lurches forward extremely strong when almost stopped, shifting from 2nd to 1st. Common issue with all of these trucks with the 8L80 transmission. Also - this transmission slams into 2nd from 1st when first starting out under light acelleration or drifting down hill.

While driving on the highway, the sunroof of the truck shattered. There were no other vehicles nearby at this time. No one was hurt and nothing hit the vehicle to cause the sunroof to shatter. The vehicle was brought to the dealer for inspection/repair. This incident occurred on 3/4/2025. There was no rain or snow occurring at the time and temp outdoors was around 40 degrees. In addition to this incident, a piece of trim came loose on the vehicle that was repaired. No injuries resulted in this as it was noticed before it came off and hit anything going down the road at a higher speed.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
The pre-collision warning and the lane keep assist are disabled while driving frequently. It does this on its own. I have had into the shop one other time for the same thing. It’s happening more frequently now. Current mileage is 25,153. Also the personal settings on the dashboard reset on its own every five or so key cycles. Obviously there’s some kind of software problem.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while washing the vehicle, it was discovered that the exterior roof panel was bent and caved inward. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who informed the contact that the vehicle was manufactured without the roof braces which were needed to strengthen the roof. The braces were ordered by the dealer. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,000.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while at a car wash, there was an abnormal sound coming from the roof. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that there was a dent in the roof panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and repaired under Customer Service Program: 23-NA-209. After the repair, the vehicle was taken to the car wash and the same failure occurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed a second time and the contact was informed that the repair could not be performed because the part was not available, and to report the failure to the NHTSA Hotline. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 1,800.

Vehicle whole system was non existent. No interior lighting, no door chime when opened, no response. Mechanic took a look and found alternator not good. It’s not charging the battery and advised me to tow it to warranty repair shop. Advised me if I were driving and vehicle died I would not have power or control of vehicle and cause serious injury or death. Lucky I was parked at home and attempted to start vehicle to leave home. No repairs done yet, vehicle is still at home waiting for an appointment.

STEERING
After driving vehicle and parking vehicle turn key off key will not turn all the way off to pull key out of ignition switch. The vehicle had 35,750 miles when brought to dealership I had told them this has happened multiple times I had to restart vehicle move vehicle shift vehicle manually or drive around block park again and then key would turn all the way off and come out, When I was contacted from the GMC dealership they said they could not duplicate the problem but I have paperwork from them and the mileage during drop off which was 35,750 miles and pickup at 35,751 miles I also told them to drive the truck it is not going to happen sitting in the dealership parking lot but they only went 1 mile, The warranty for this problem will be up at 36,000 miles. I drove the vehicle 8 miles from the dealership to my house no problems drove another drove another 6 miles to the car wash and went through the car wash went to park to vacuum and wipe exterior the key would not turn all the way off stuck in the accessory position had to back up and move vehicle to another spot park and then the key turned all the way off so I could get key out

SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
Since I purchased the vehicle it’s had the issue of it braking on its own. I brought this up to GMC many times. At the beginning they had me try to duplicate it with them, which I thought would be unsafe. They only acknowledged the problem and attempted repairs after I contacted GMC directly. The issue with the crash alerts while driving always stayed, even though there was nothing in front of me. Just recently it started braking on its own again in traffic. This has caused bodily and property damage, luckily nothing grave. I do not feel safe in the vehicle and gave gmc many attempts at fixing such a serious issue. I want them to tow replace the vehicle and provide a loaner. Please contact me if you need more details. SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL
On [XXX] I took a trip with family through Ohio from Pennsylvania. While truck was in adaptive cruise control on highway, phantom braking occurred where truck slowed down from 70mph to about 60mph 5 times. No objects or vehicles in front of truck or around truck during the braking. The weather was mostly clear overcast at times with no rain or snow. Concerned if vehicles were behind me during the breaking causing an accident. It was abrupt completely out of the blue when it happened. Took truck into service on 1/8/25 for oil change and braking issue, dealership states there’s no service bulletin for issue. I have not used adaptive cruise control since. I am experiencing two safety issues with my Canyon 1) Forward collision alert system is triggered unnecessarily (e.g., when there isn't a car in front of me, when the car in front is far away and not posing a risk). I took it to GMC a few months back since there was a previous recall for this system and they said they stated it was fixed. It is not fixed. I turned off the automatic braking tied to the forward collision alert because it has previously braked automatically in a dangerous manner. 2) Digital gauge cluster / speedometer is black / blank upon startup about 5% of the time. Since there is no analog speedometer, this means I am driving without knowing my speed. This is very dangerous. I have tried disconnecting my battery and resetting the electronic system but this issue still persists sometimes.

While driving through a car wash air blow dryer, the roof was popping in and out resulting in a dent of the sheet metal. The roof area appears to be very weak structurally. The roof can be pushed in by hand. This could be dangerous in a rollover situation.

Battery dies during vehicle update spontanteniouly. After jumoing vehicle to start it all systems will not return to normal causing brakes not to function normally. I jumped my vehicle after one system update and brakes failed to engage almost causing an acident. these vehicles should not be on the road due to the software safety flaws. GMC is aware of this and still have no fix for the problem. There are numerous accounts of this happening to this vehicle on forums and solcial media.

Our 2023 Canyon AT4 we bought on [XXX] had the same problem as this current VIN number of the 2023 Canyon ( Covert GMC in Bee Caves tx bought back the first 2023 Canyon due to this same exact transmission problem. The vehicle I’m complaining about that was replaced by Covert GMC in Bee Caves Texas on [XXX] still has a unsafe issue with the transmission. I’m [XXX] and I am [XXX]. Almost every time I pull into a [XXX] parking spot, from right or left approach, this vehicle lunges as I get close to the sign post. it occurs at red lights occasionally. This current replacement vehicle has been in for warranty several time .. only to the Same excuse that they can’t duplicate. Common denials Don not fix the safety issue with this truck. At first start the first gear slips this has been going on for 2 years. Is been serviced 3 times and no one seems to know what the problem is. The services tech did discover the issue but couldn't figure out what the problem is. I only have 19,000 mile and its on warranty I'm hoping this matter can be resolved.
