SummarySprinter 907 - Rear Axle Noise Diagnosis Best Practices Complaint Various noises from area of rear axle while driving Cause A: Howling Noises The high‑frequency howling noise is caused by the normal meshing behavior of the rear axle gear set, consisting of the pinion and crown gear. Two example noise recordings are provided in the attachment for reference. The volume and perception of this noise can vary depending on vehicle weight and load condition. Due to the current design of the Sprinter rear axle, it is not possible to completely isolate or decouple the the vibration generated by the normal meshing of the rear axle gears from the vehicle body. As a result, this noise may be transmitted into the vehicle interior. This noise is considered a normal characteristic of the rear axle design and vehicle operation. As it is not the result of a technical failure, component repairs or replacements will not lead to an improvement. There is no negative impact on the function, durability, service life, or operational safety of the rear axle. B: Other Noises: Noises that differ from the described howling characteristic (for example grinding, droning, or chattering noises) are not considered normal and may indicate a technical concern. Possible causes may include, but are not limited to: • Damaged bearings • Increased or abnormal gear wear • Excessive play within the differential Remedy Remedy for Cause A: Do not replace any components. This noise is considered a normal characteristic of the rear axle design and vehicle operation. Remedy for Cause B: If the noise does not match the described howling characteristic, the concern must be diagnosed and documented using the guidance below, with the results included in the warranty claim as applicable. Documentation of Concern: In many cases, the concern can be remedied using available replacement parts, and a complete rear axle assembly replacement is not necessary. However, due to parts availability, tool availability and workshop constraints, a complete assembly replacement may be performed in select cases to mitigate vehicle downtime. IMPORTANT: This is not intended to be the default repair approach. Component replacement must not be performed without diagnostic findings that clearly support a technical defect. Replacing rear axle components without confirmed abnormal findings may result in a debit of the warranty claim. This document does not guarantee warranty coverage and is designed to aid in diagnosis and subsequent resolution of the complaint. Create a file with all of your documents, findings, photos and sound files. 1. To ensure there is a clear understanding of the customer complaint, collect and document the following information: - When did the noise start? - Verify whether any previous repairs or work were performed prior to the onset of the noise. - Did the noise occur suddenly, or did it develop progressively over time? - Is the vehicle upfitted, modified, or retrofitted? (List all modifications) - Attach photos of any modifications or added equipment. - Under which conditions does the noise occur? (Provide all that apply) • Vehicle speed • Selected gear • Load condition • Outside ambient temperature and/or weather conditions • Engine and drivetrain temperature Diagnosis and Inspection: 2. Collect a video or sound file of the noise concern, ensure the video is available if requested. 3. Perform an NVH recording and store the .pp data file. The file must be available if requested during warranty review or parts inspection.

SummaryCheck engine light with fault code P3005CA in MRD1 (CDI) Complaint The check engine light is on, with a possiblility in a reduction of power and the presence of soot in the exhaust system. Fault code P3005CA: The diesel particulate filter efficiency is insufficient. Additional information: Additional fault codes may be present, related to the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) system or the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system. Cause This fault code sets due to the following factors: 1. Damage to the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) unit. 2. The N74 (Soot Particulate Sensor Control Unit) identifies soot or debris located downstream of the SCR Catalyst (underbody). Remedy Note: The guided tests for fault code P3005CA have been revised in the XENTRY unit. It is important to complete these guided tests thoroughly. TIPS cases are NO longer required unless there is an absence of soot at the outlet of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) unit. If there are any other fault codes present for component 'N74 (Soot Particulate Sensor Control Unit)', process these first. 1. Damage to the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) unit. • Complete the XENTRY guided tests: • Check the Exhaust system for leaks - Perform a visual inspection of the exhaust system from the Combustion Engine to Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Verify that there are no external damages and that all clamps and sensors are installed and leak-free. • Check component 'Exhaust pipe and Filter screen of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (low pressure)' for carbon fouling. If no soot is present at the Tailpipe outlet, recommended to separate the exhaust pipe downstream of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) at the outlet to inspect.

SummaryThe check engine light is illuminated, or the AdBlue warning is active, with recorded faults related to AdBlue quality or concentration. Complaint Customer reports an illuminated check engine light and or an AdBlue system warning indicating AdBlue quality out of specification. The vehicle may enter reduced performance mode. One or more of the following fault codes related to the AdBlue tank may be stored: P206B31: Malfunction of the concentration sensor for AdBlue; the signal is absent. P203B31: Malfunction of the AdBlue fill level sensor; the signal is absent. P300494: The quality of the AdBlue is insufficient. Background AdBlue must meet ISO 22241 quality requirements. ISO 22241 urea content limits for AdBlue are 31.8 percent to 33.2 percent by mass. AdBlue begins to crystallize and freeze at approximately 12 degrees F. Freeze-thaw does not degrade the product when uncontaminated, and the bulk concentration returns to normal after complete thaw and mixing. Cause In cold soak conditions and during freeze thaw exposure, the tank contents may not be uniform at the time of sampling or system checks. During freezing and partial thaw, ice formation can temporarily create concentration gradients in the tank. As a result, urea percent readings can vary based on sample location and the state of thaw and mixing, which can produce apparent out of range readings even though the bulk fluid returns to normal after mixing. Remedy Testing Do not use a single urea percent reading taken from frozen, partially frozen, or not fully mixed AdBlue to make a repair or responsibility decision. Confirm full thaw and ensure tank contents are mixed before sampling. 1. Confirm full thaw - Confirm the AdBlue tank and associated components are fully thawed before sampling. - Do not sample slushy or partially frozen fluid. 2. Mix tank contents - Perform a road drive intended to mix the tank contents before sampling. - Idle time alone is not a reliable substitute for mixing. 3. Sample and measure - Take the sample and measure with the MB refractometer per the MB tool instructions. - Record the urea percent value. 4. Interpret the result against ISO 22241 limits - Within specification is 31.8 percent to 33.2 percent urea by mass. 5. Repeat if out of specification - If out of specification, repeat after an additional mixing drive to reduce sampling variation. - If still out of specification after full thaw, mixing, and repeat measurement, treat as a true out of specification result and proceed with further diagnosis per applicable MB guidance. Acceptance criteria AdBlue is within the ISO 22241 specification when the urea percent is between 31.8 percent and 33.2 percent by mass. Values outside this range are out of specification and require further diagnosis after completing the full thaw and mi-xing procedure above. Cross reference For vehicles with fault codes P206B31, P203B31, or P300494, refer to LI49.20-N-078838 for the detailed diagnostic and repair procedure. If a SCR or AdBlue warning reset is required after correction, refer to LI49.20-N-075995. Complete the diagnostic and corrective steps first. Perform the warning reset only after the underlying fault condition has been corrected. Warranty information and claim handling

SummaryCheck engine light or Adblue warning with fault codes P206B31, P203B31, or P300494 present in AdBlue (SCR) control unit (N118/5) Complaint The check engine light or AdBlue warning is activated, accompanied by one or more of the following fault codes related to the AdBlue tank: P206B31 Malfunction of the concentration sensor for AdBlue; the signal is absent. P203B31 Malfunction of the AdBlue fill level sensor; the signal is absent. P300494 The quality of the AdBlue is insufficient. Cause A. The software for the AdBlue (SCR) control unit (N118/5) is outdated. B. The AdBlue concentration is outside ISO 22241 limits (below 31.8 percent or above 33.2 percent). C. Frozen or partially frozen AdBlue can cause the AdBlue level and concentration functions to report inaccurate values. D. The AdBlue level and concentration sensing functions in the tank are damaged. E. Cold soak and freeze thaw exposure can temporarily create concentration gradients in the tank and lead to sampling dependent readings until fully thawed and mixed. Important Before evaluating any AdBlue concentration result, follow LI49.20-N-080376 to confirm full thaw, perform a mixing drive, and retest. Do not use a single urea percent reading taken from frozen, partially frozen, or not fully mixed AdBlue for a repair or responsibility decision. Remedy A. Software 1. Verify no newer software is available for the AdBlue (SCR) control unit (N118/5). 2. If a software update is available, program the control unit per XENTRY guidance. 3. Only after the system is in proper working condition, complete LI49.20-N-075995 for AdBlue warning reset. Note: If there is no updated software available, print the XENTRY screen indicating this and proceed to section B. B. AdBlue concentration 1. Confirm full thaw and mixing per LI49.20-N-080376, then verify AdBlue concentration. a. Check concentration using the MB refractometer per the MB tool instructions and applicable WIS guidance. b. Use freeze frame data when applicable. 2. If AdBlue concentration remains below 31.8 percent or above 33.2 percent after full thaw, mixing drive, and retest, AdBlue replacement is required. Warranty and responsibility decisions must follow LI49.20-N-080376 warranty handling guidance and standard war-ranty policy. 3. If AdBlue concentration is within specification, proceed to section C. C. Frozen AdBlue or SCR actual values indicate frozen AdBlue 1. Check if AdBlue is frozen. If frozen, allow the vehicle to sit in a warm environment overnight and recheck. 2. With the vehicle running and XENTRY connected, display the actual AdBlue level values. 3. Drain the AdBlue tank and verify the displayed fill level reflects the change. 4. Fill the AdBlue tank slowly. Do not overfill. Verify the fill level reflects the change. Note: For model years 23 to 25, Fill Level Sensor 1 functions as the empty sensor and accurately measures only the bottom portion of the tank. Once the level is above the measurement range, the displayed value may fluctuate. This is nor-mal. 5. Reset the AdBlue tank fill level via XENTRY. Print the XENTRY pages showing that the fill up completed success-fully. 6. Only after the system is in proper working condition, complete LI49.20-N-075995 for AdBlue warning reset and print the XENTRY pages confirming the reset completed successfully. Note: If XENTRY still indicates frozen AdBlue or the concentration remains inaccurate after drain and refill and the thaw, mix, retest requirements were completed, proceed to section D. D. Damaged AdBlue level and concentration sensing functions 1. Replace the AdBlue tank as required by applicable MB guidance. 2. With the vehicle running and XENTRY connected, display the actual AdBlue level values. 3. Fill the AdBlue tank slowly. Do not overfill. Verify the fill level reflects the change. 4. Reset the AdBlue tank fill level via XENTRY. 5. Only after the system is in proper working condition, complete LI49.20-N-075995 for AdBlue warning reset.

SummaryIn our continuing efforts to assure the proper performance of our products and to ensure the satisfaction of our customers, the warranty for the low pressure EGR differential pressure sensor in the vehicles listed below has been extended from 5 years/100,000 miles to 15 years/150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Mercedes-Benz AG has determined that on Sprinter (907 platform) vehicles, under certain circumstances iodine corrosion might take place on the bonded connection of the low-pressure Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) differential pressure sensor, which could lead to an electrical fault. In the potentially affected vehicles iodine corrosion on the bonded connection of the low pressure EGR differential pressure sensor might be caused by the release of iodine from rubber parts if the vehicle is exposed to excessive temperatures from sun exposure or in the event of significant heat accumulation due to long idle phases. The released iodine might promote electro corrosion on the sensor’s bonding. As soon as the iodine corrosion has progressed to the point where there is no longer an electrical connection, this would be correctly recognized by the low pressure EGR differential pressure sensor diagnostics as a hardware failure, the corresponding error code would be stored and the Malfunction Indicator Light would illuminate (2-trip MIL). Furthermore, corresponding error replacement reactions (e.g. deactivation of EGR and DPF regeneration, blocking of OBD-relevant diagnostics, and activation of limp home mode) would be initiated. As a result of the error replacement reactions, exhaust emissions might be increased. Due to the illumination of the MIL as well as the activation of the replacement reactions (including limp home mode), it is anticipated that customers would visit a workshop promptly.

Cause Causes for FC P3007F1 or P300CA8: Faults are set if: • If there is a leakage upstream of the exhaust gas turbocharger (see "Dichtring_Sealant.jpg"). • If the housing intermediate flange at the high-pressure EGR valve (where the exhaust back pressure sensor connects) is carbonized or clogged, or if there is carbonization/incomplete sealing of the high-pressure or lowpressure EGR valves. (See “Gehaeusezwischenflansch_intermediate_flange.jpg” and verstopfter_Gehaeusezwischenflansch_clogged_Intermediate_Flange.jpg.”) • Note: Only relevant if the correction value in load range 1 is less than -8%. • If the intake manifold (charge air distribution line) or charge air cooler is carbonized (see "Saugrohr_intake_manifold.jpg"). • If engine timing is misadjusted. • There is a defective hot film mass air flow sensor or a hot film mass air flow sensor that is affected by incorrect airflow (this can be due to a clogged or deformed air filter). Refer to the attached file "Luftfilter_air_filter." Cause of fault code combination P300CA9 AND P3007F1: Faults are set if: • There is carbonization or incomplete closure of the high-pressure exhaust gas recirculation valve, especially in the housing intermediate flange at the EGR valve (linked to the exhaust back pressure sensor). Charleston Plant Identification – VIN 11th Digit “T”: For vehicles produced at the Charleston Plant (identified by “T” in the 11th digit of the VIN) with a production date on or after 12/20/2023: • If fault code P3007F1 or P300CA8 is set, an air leak is found, and the cause is identified as a loose or mis-installed Clean Air Line from the factory, open an Initial Field Quality (Info Only) case. • Include the current Quick Test and photos showing the Clean Air Line issue. For all other vehicles, continue diagnosis as per the standard instructions.

SummaryExhaust Gas Flap Noise Complaint Customers may report a high-pitched squealing or squeaking noise originating from the exhaust system, specifically near the exhaust gas flap. Cause The noise occurs during actuation of the exhaust gas flap. Internal movement within the flap mechanism, primarily the flap shaft and return spring, can generate friction-induced squeal. Remedy If a squealing noise is present at the exhaust gas flap, do not replace the entire exhaust gas flap assembly or exhaust system. Perform the following corrective action: 1. Confirm the noise originates from the exhaust gas flap actuator area. The squeal typically occurs when the actuator moves the flap during engine operation. 2. Solution: •Remove the Exhaust Gas Flap Controller (AR49.10-D-5507TSM - Remove/install exhaust gas flap controller). •Remove the original spring (Picture 1). •Install the new damping element in place of the spring (Picture 2 and Picture 3). -This damping element absorbs vibration and prevents squealing, eliminating the need for costly component replacements. •Reinstall the Exhaust Gas Flap Controller. •Perform initialization of Exhaust Gas Flap Controller (AD00.00-D-2000-06TS - Connect/disconnect diagnostic unit).
