- #11581633April 7, 2024FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, ENGINE
For as long as I've had my car - 2017 till now - it's had what I term a "hiccup" after receiving gas. The engine would slightly shudder for the first 5-10 minutes after I filled the car with gas. This was not from overfilling the tank as I never max out the tank. I didn't think much about this until a few months ago. A few minutes after filling my car with gas, the engine shuddered severely and the RPM dropped to zero. This caused the engine to die and left me unable to exit from the turn lane. No warning lights appeared on my dash. I turned on the hazard lights and rolled down the window, but eventually all the lights inside the car died. I was stuck in a left turn lane, unable to move. I had to stick my hand out the window to direct other cars to drive around me. I requested a tow via my car insurance company and the drive arrived within ~15 minutes. The tow truck driver was able to restart my car and we towed it to the local Ford Service center. I explained the issue to the service department, but they were unable to replicate the issue and thus did not resolve it. Since then, the same issues has occurred every time I refill the gas tank. Regardless of how much gas is added or how full the tank was after receiving gas. After adding gas, I have begun immediately parking at the gas station to wait out the engine shudders. They do stop after ~10 minutes, but during that time they have caused the engine to die again. In the past weeks, I've also begun to observe a minor engine shudder even when stopped at a red light. I have never observed a warning light. Online research has shown a number of other people experiencing this issue. It seems the likely cause is a faulty fuel vapor purge valve. This valve may be allowing liquid fuel to flow to the engine, causing the engine to shudder and die. I will be taking my car to a different service center in hopes of the issues being resolved and not getting stranded again. The transmission shift level locks in Park. The vehicle is available for inspection. Safety was a concern as I was stopped in a school unloading zone/fire lane and was unable to place the shifter in drive. This caused the lane to be blocked. I googled the problem, and was able to remove a cover and access a manual release. I do not know if the problem was previously inspected, however, it is a common search item on Google/internet. There was no prior warning. The problem persists and I will have it checked.

I have a 2013 Ford Fiesta that I had financed through a 3rd party just right at a year . The ride was rough to begin with and I began experiencing problems such as a loud shrieking/grinding noise under the hood , which triggered the check engine light . Also pressing the gas and the car not accelerating properly which causes jerking , stalling , and etc. I had a mechanic look at it and did minor repairs but this problem is reoccurring. Recently , I was backing out of a parking spot and shifted the car into drive from being in reverse and pressed the gas and it didn't accelerate it just made a loud revving noise and jerked until I proceeded out the parking lot into traffic. The car continued to jerk really ridiculously, and I had to put on emergency lights and pull over into the nearest parking lot. I then had to call someone to trail me home. I recently had it towed to a local transmission shop after it jerked/stalled out really bad on me in heavy traffic again and didn't really want to accelerate to the proper speed. The mechanics at the Transmission shop ran a thorough diagnostic , and other tests and let me know that it's the Transmission Control Module that needs replaced and that it has to go to the dealership. Well I called a Ford Dealership , and the representative said it takes months to get in a new Transmission Control Module and also that even when replaced it really does not fix the problem as per many other similar situations the service representative has dealt with. I have been completely screwed all the way around with this car and I'm not even sure why there isn't a recall on these 2013 Fod Fiesta because they are really dangerous and it's so very inconvenient with all the troubles that come with it.

I’ve owned my 2015 Ford Fiesta for about 7 years now. Within the first year, I contacted the Ford dealership explaining noises when driving and my dual clutch shifting gears. I sent them video sound recordings. They said it was typical of this transmission. The car has never felt smooth but “ok enough,” until 18months ago when I reported gears slipping. No error codes were detected but parts of my clutch were replaced. Now, 16,000 miles later I brought my car into ford dealership saying I felt the gears slipping. They diagnosed a few other maintenance pieces like brakes and tires but said nothing was detected with the transmission and clutch. 3 weeks later, I was driving on a highway - lake shore drive in chicago, and my check engine light came on. My car would not change gears or accelerate past the 30mph I had been going. I felt like I was in neutral. I exited, fearing an accident. In stop and go traffic I used my hazard lights because I could not accelerate at each stop sign. I made it to a safe spot to pull over and then realized i could not reverse! I had my car towed to the ford dealer from 3 weeks prior. At this point they could read a few clutch error codes but cannot be certain of the actual cause. In order to do so, they need my consent of a possible $1500 service charge for investigating the issue. Ford costumer service line has said “oh wow, we’re glad your weren’t in an accident. I’m Sorry, your car does not meet criteria for any support from Ford.” Ford has knowingly kept these faulty transmissions on the road and now they are telling me that they will not help look into my vehicle’s transmission and safety issues. This seems unreasonable when the issue is clearly linked to the faulty dual clutch Powershift system. 1.5 million Ford Fiestas may still be registered and driven with Ford offering nothing other than “I’m really glad you dodged an accident and made it off the highway.”

Oil pickup is clogged in sump, preventing proper oiling of engine, in turn effecting air vacuum pump, in turn sporadically effecting brake effectiveness. Brake pedal is suddenly stiff and car does not slow down. Oil warning light on cluster illuminates, but not always.

This car literally almost got me killed when it suddenly began jerking like I was hitting the brakes while driving or like suddenly downshifting into first if it was a standard which it isn’t. All the dash lights flickered and the gages went up and down right before this happened. It jerks, stalls, lurches and I have literally just parked it and don’t drive it because my children were inside the car when it began doing this on the highway and stalled causing us to almost be hit by a semi when this happened. I had it towed home out of fear of attempting to drive it. You can’t even drive it a few blocks before it begins lurching and jerking. It feels like something to do with the transmission and the traction control light is now on as well.

It is widely known that this vehicle has irreparable transmission problems. My car shudders, loses power, has issues shifting, etc because of known issues. It feels dangerous to drive at times. The dealer no doubt willingly sold it to me used knowing about the problem. I feel taken advantage of as I had to purchase the car during Covid when inventory was low and prices were high. I owe over twice as much on car than it’s worth. No one in their right mind would buy it. I’m on medical leave without pay and in no position to trade it. I bought it after all the class action suits were settled. It doesn’t appear to fall under lemon law. I’m basically waiting for it to completely break down. Praying nobody is hurt when it happens. I’m writing because I’m aggravated and feel I have no recourse.

I was driving down a very busy highway about 60 mph when my oil light started flashing on my dash and my check engine light came on and when I tried to push my brake pedal to stop my car I couldn't push it in. My brakes were very hard, I had to pull my emergency brake to stop my car and coast into a gas station so I didn't hit anyone. I have done a lot of research online and this same issue is already under recall on 2 other Ford Models as well as a class action lawsuit against Ford because of this issue. My model however is not listed under the recall because it has a manual transmission and they said that those models are not affected but that's clearly not true.
