  This Preliminary Information communication provides steps the technician will uses to diagnose and repair vehicles that have low oil pressure after an oil change with the engine Regular Production Option Code L20, L77, L94, L96, L99, L9H, LC8, LC9, LH9, LMF, LMG, LY6, or LZ1. Vehicle may have Service Engine Soon lamp with Diagnostic Trouble Code P0521 or Low Oil Pressure message on the instrument panel. Dealer will need to determine if bulletin 10-06-01-008 was completed. If the bulletin was performed inspect the left rocker cover. Dealer will insure the left rocker can hold water without leaking. If leaks are found apply room temperature vulcanization silicone to the rocker cover if possible or replace the left rocker cover.

  This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about vehicles that have an inaccurate fuel gauge. Technician should drive the vehicle to duplicate the concern. The fuel gauge will have a tendency to falsely indicate a lower fuel level than what is actually present. The fuel gauge will take a few minutes to show the correct fuel level. On vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission no buffering takes place when the transmission is in park or neutral. This is a normal characteristic and no repairs are necessary. On vehicles equipped with a manual transmission the fuel gauge is buffered in all gears and neutral. There is a timer which starts to count up when the clutch is depressed. When this timer reaches its calibrated value the buffering stops. This is a normal characteristic and no repairs are necessary.

A DUAL-PULSE INJECTION STRATEGY IS UTILIZED DURING ENGINE COLD START TO REDUCE THE TIME REQUIRED TO BRING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER UP TO OPERATING TEMPERATURE. THIS SPLIT INJECTION STRATEGY LASTS FOR ABOUT 60 SECONDS ON COLD START. THIS PROCESS MAY CAUSE THE CUSTOMER TO SEE INCREASED BLACK SMOKE DURING COLD START AND SHOULD BE CONSIDERED NORMAL.

TECHNICIAN WILL TEST TO DETERMINE IF THE CRANK SHAFT END PLAY IS WITHIN SPECIFICATION 0.0015–0.0086 INCH. IF END PLAY IS FOUND TO BE OUT OF SPECIFICATION, REMOVE ENGINE AND INSPECT FOR POSSIBLE CRANKSHAFT THRUST BEARING AND/OR CRANKSHAFT FOR WEAR. INSPECT THRUST BEARING FOR WEAR ON ONE SIDE AND CRANKSHAFT ON THAT “MATING” SURFACE. IF THE THRUST BEARING HAS THREE VERTICAL CHANNELS WORN OFF REPLACE CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS, MAIN BEARINGS, THRUST BEARING AND CRANKSHAFT. IF WORKING ON A CORVETTE THE OIL TANK WITH LINES AND OIL COOLER ARE BOTH REQUIRED TO BE REPLACED IF EQUIPPED.

THE CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE MAY BE STICKING OR BINDING CAUSING THE VALVE TIMING TO BE RETARDED. DEALER WILL NEED TO CYCLE THE CAMSHAFT POSITION ACTUATOR SOLENOID VALVE BY ENERGIZING IT USING GLOBAL DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM 2.
