SERVICE BRAKES
WHEN DRIVING THE BMW X4 THE VEHICLE WOULD BREAK ON ITS OWN, CAUSING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WHEN DRIVING ON THE ROAD AND FREEWAY. THIS CAUSED ME TO GET OFF THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY WITH THE RISK OF BEING HIT FROM THE REAR. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR THEY SAID IT WAS THE CALIPERS AND BRAKE PADS THAT NEEDED REPLACED. WHEN THIS REPAIR TOOK PLACE, I TOOK THE VEHICLE HOME AND THE NEXT MORNING THE SAME THING HAPPENED WITHIN 1 MILE OF DIVING THE VEHICLE. THE CAR STARTED BRAKING ON ITS OWN. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THEY KEPT THE CAR AND WERE ABLE TO RECREATE THE ISSUE. THE ISSUE WAS THE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM FOR THE BRAKES ABS SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS REPAIR TOOK PLACE AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR 6 WEEKS. (THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE IN THE U.S. OR GERMANY AND IT TOOK 6 WEEKS TO GET THE PART.) TODAY I RECEIVED MY VEHICLE BACK AND IT DROVE WITH NO BRAKING ISSUES. THERE WERE NO WARNING LAMPS, MESSAGES OR OTHER SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE FAILURE IN DECEMBER 2023.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
The contact owns a 2015 BMW X4. The contact stated that while his wife was at a stop sign, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to approximately 90 mph and crashed into a garage door that was twenty feet away. There were no reported injuries, but the driver and rear-seat child occupant went to the hospital for medical assistance. The vehicle was towed to a collision center. There was no reported fire. The air bags did not deploy. The police were on the scene, but no report was provided. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified about the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105, 000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, LANE DEPARTURE: BLIND SPOT DETECTION, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
I own the car since brand new from dealership and never have incident. Couple weeks ago, started having issues with digital main instruments panel. Suddenly when I turn on the car in the morning the dash simply does not work. I got alert saying one the safety system is malfunctioning but not say what it was specifically. After 5 min the engine is on the main dash back to work normally, and all the alerts disappear. I have checked faulty codes and I see faulty code record to identify what would be. I would report as safety incident as the failure is Randon and sometimes happen when I park the car in the office or anytime and I have to drive with no panel instruments working back to home. I have taken the bar back to dealership for investigation and they want to charge me $180 USD just for diagnose as it's out of warranty. I also taken to independent shop but it's hard to diagnose as the vehicle is reporting no fault on their system. A car with low milage should not been happening such major failure and I'm frustrated with the risk of driving a car couple miles without knowing my speed or fuel level. Appreciate your support .

SERVICE BRAKES
After starting vehicle and putting it into drive, I received a Parking Brake Malfunction error message. The electronic parking brake was engaged and it could not be release allowing the vehicle to move. I attempted to reset the electronic parking brake following the dealerships recommendations. 1) remove and replace the fuses for the parking system (3 fuses) and 2) disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes and re-connecting the battery in order to reset the computer. Neither of these methods worked, and there is no way to manually release the parking brake. Ultimately, the vehicle was towed to the local BMW dealership for service. They have not been able to diagnose or fix the issue. thankfully, the malfunction happened while pulling out of the garage, and not at speed on the interstate. That could have been disastrous. This appears to be a serious engineering flaw in BMW vehicles equipped with electronic parking brake systems.

The contact owns a 2018 BMW X4. The contact stated that when she would stop the vehicle for a traffic signal, the vehicle would independently shift into park (P). The contact stated that the failure had started as an intermittent failure but had gradually become a recurring failure. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had been the cause of a recent crash at a traffic signal. The contact's vehicle had slipped into park (P) when the signal light changed to green her vehicle did not move forward and the vehicle behind her crashed into the rear bumper. The contact stated that there was minor damage to the other vehicle's front bumper and no damage to her vehicle, both vehicle's were able to drive away. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer after the first failures, where it was diagnosed and determined that the battery needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been repaired. The contact stated that she drove the vehicle back to the same dealer following the crash and the dealer diagnosed that the crank position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2020 BMW X4. The contact stated that while driving at 65 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. Upon restarting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly. The drivetrain malfunction warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the rear differential had disconnected from the drive shaft. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 58,000.

Stirring air bag did not deploy nor did the curtain airbag on driver side. Passenger injured with broken nose and face injury during collision.

SUSPENSION
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Suspension How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - Its giving head ache and body pain, driver & passengers are jumping / shaking / feeling very uncomfortable Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? - Dealer mentioned all good, it designed this way Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? - yes by BMW Service center Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - No The car's performance and handling is good, but the biggest concern is with suspension. Bad experience in the driver's seat and more bad in the passenger seat. I understand if the suspension is not performing in sport mode, but even in comfort mode the suspension is not even working 10%. Really frustrated and getting depressed. Why is it mentioned as comfort mode and not doing the intended job ? Why is the car being advertised and sold as it has Adaptive suspension ? really the car has suspension ? The car is wobbling / shaking and very rough even for very small bumps / uneven surfaces (the car is just falling into it). It gives a headache when driving on a speed breaker even at 5 MPH. I really feel like the car has no suspension. Mentioning and selling with comfort mode where it is not doing the intended job is definitely a defective and design flaw. I would not have purchased it if it does not has comfort mode. Its happening all the time and from 5 to 70 mile speed. Please help me on this.

I got 2018 bmw x4 and 7year/80000km warranty from the bmw store in vancouver on jun 25,2019.I used to drive to seattle to shopping and eating. I and my husband drived this car from vancouver to edmonton on jun 1,2022. On jun 4,the engine sign and change oil sign all light up . on jun 6 we drived to the bmw edmonton to maintanance.on jun 7 they told me this car eccentric shaft faulty,the car mechanic show us the eccentric shaft already broken ,if i direct drived back to vancouver the engine maybe suddenly shut down or slower down on the highwat.and I must repair car in edmonton and pay total repair fee later back to vancouver to claim the warranty ,i called the bmw store vancouver rep he said ok.that time this car is 64500 km. when I back to the bmw store vancouver to claim this case.they answer me this case is my fault ,i was not done the maintenance for a while, so on july 20 2022 i sued thr bmw store. A trail will be held on oct 12,2022. today i do this complaint i just want to know the reason for eccentric shaft faulty ,what cause this engine problem,it possible make engine suddenly shut down or slower down ,very dangerous ,sometimes somebody will not immediately to change oil. actually i did regular maintance on 45000km,51800km,59000km. just give me a email back before the trail day oct 12,2022 ,thanks a lot.

2022 BMW X4. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO DEFECTIVE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LUNGES, ROCKS, AND JERKS WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS ROAD TESTED THE LUNGES WERE AKNOWLEDGED, BUT THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS DESIGNED.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM, POWER TRAIN
Vehicle has stalled while in operation (at speed) 5 times since owning. All were very dangerous situations for my wife and surrounding drivers. All issues were apparently "fuel system" related. I purchased this vehicle on May 11, 2018 (POC) from Fields BMW South Orlando, FL. The car was most recently brought in for repair for a continued issue on May 3, 2021. Vehicle has never been in a wreck and has roughly 73K miles. •5/31/2018 – Issue with fuel system. Car started shaking and would not start. 2 weeks after purchase. •6/05/2018 – Issue with fuel system. Vehicle stalls while in operation. •8/21/2018 – Vehicle is losing acceleration while driving. Drive train malfunction light comes on. •3/5/2019 – Check engine light on. Faulty tank ventilation pressure switch. •6/23/2020 – Car stalls while driving (35 mph+) and strands me in the middle of an intersection. Car will not switch out of park. Police had to come to move the vehicle. Very dangerous situation. Wife is driving, 3 months pregnant at this time. •8/15/2020 – Car stalls while driving. Again, driving around 30+ mph. Wife had to quickly pull the car to the median. Dangerous situation. Car will not switch out of park. Wife is driving, 5 months pregnant. •5/3/2021 – Car stalls while driving. Luckily able to coast into a gas station under no power. Car will not switch out of park. Wife stranded with no AC with 3-month-old baby and 9 yr. old daughter. - 5/17/2021 - Transfer Case Needs Replacement Besides the fuel system issues, I believe there is a dangerous feature with this vehicle in that it cannot be switched out of park when it loses power. Being stuck in the middle of an intersection and unable to move a car into neutral (even with police officer) is extremely dangerous. Vehicle was inspected by a BMW TSE for transfer case issue. They say it needs to be replaced. This vehicle is a danger and should not be on the road.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 BMW X4. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOSS MOTIVE POWER. THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER A CURB CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE SUSPENSION. THE CONTACT HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP WHERE AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS A FAULTY TIMING CHAIN. THE SUSPENSION DAMAGE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE ENGINE WAS NOT REPAIRED. BMW OF OWINGS MILLS (9702 REISTERSTOWN RD, OWINGS MILLS, MD 21117, (410) 902-8700) WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE FOR THE ENGINE REPAIR/REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

SERVICE BRAKES, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS
WHILE DRIVING, COLLISION DETECTION ACTIVATES FOR NO REASON. VERY RANDOM, SOMETIMES JUST WARNING LIGHTS AND SOUNDS, AND SOMETIMES SLAMMING ON BRAKES AT SPEED OVER 40 MPH. NO CARS COMING IN OTHER DIRECTION OR ANY OBSTACLES WHATSOEVER. WEATHER CLEAR. I ALMOST GOT REAR-ENDED ONCE. DID NOT ACTIVATE WHEN FOX RAN IN FRONT OF CAR. I CAN GO WEEKS WITHOUT THIS HAPPENING AND THEN IT COMES OUT OF THE BLUE. IT'S IN THE SHOP FOR THE THIRD TIME FOR THIS COMPLAINT AND SERVICE SAYS THEY HAVE NO "ERROR CODES" AND CAN'T RECREATE THE PROBLEM. BMWUSA TOLD SERVICE TO TRY TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM BY DRIVING IT OVERNIGHT. THERE'S A 50/50 CHANCE IT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THEY DRIVE IT, AND THERE STILL WON'T BE ERROR CODES! BMW WON'T AUTHORIZE ANY REPAIR UNTIL THEY GO THROUGH THESE STEPS. THIS HAS BEEN ON AND OFF FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS. DATE BELOW WAS MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE. OBVIOUSLY, OBTAINING ANY DOCUMENTATION OF PROOF IS IMPOSSIBLE UNLESS I HAVE A CAMERA CREW ON ME ALL THE TIME. IT'S TERRIFYING AND DANGEROUS!

SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
WHILE DRIVING OUT OF A PKG LOT AT LOW SPEED AND SNOW CONDITIONS, MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS TURNED ON, WHILE VEHICLE SLIDED TOWARD COLISION. THE CAR WENT TO PARK (BY ITSELF) WHILE MOVING FWD DIRECTION, THE REAR TIRES WERE SPINNING AND THE FRONT WERE LOCKED INTO PARK WITHOUT ANY TRACTION. WHILE THE CAR MOVED TOWARD COLLISION, PEOPLE HELPED TO PUSHED THE CAR AWAY FROM OTHER CARS, AS THE CAR MOVED TO "PARK". AFTER FEW SECONDS OF TRYING TO CONTROL THE CAR WITHOUT SUCESS, (THE CAR) IT WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED TO TRY TO RESET THE WARNINGS AND GET IT MOVING. CAR STILL WAS NOT RESPONDING 100% PROPERLY; GOT CAR TO REVERSE TO GET SOME STEERING AWAY FROM OTHER CARS AND PUT "AUTOSOCKS" ON FRONT WHEELS (NOT PER MFG'S MANUAL) TO GET TRACTION ON FRONT AXEL AND TRY TO GET THE FRONT WHEELS TO MOVE. ONCE THE FRONT AXEL GOT TRACTION, AND THE PANEL WAS RESET, THE SITUATION WAS UNDER CONTROL AND AVOIDED COLLISION. AFTER THIS, TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THAT THE BATTERY HAD AGED AND THAT THIS RESULTED IN A FAULT DYNAMIC SYSTEM CONTROL. THERE WAS NO BATTERY HEALTH WARNING THAT ADVISE TO LOOK AT THIS PRIOR ENGAGE ON TRAVELS, OR ANYTHING THAT MENTIONED THAT LOW BATTERY COULD AFFECT BRAKE SYSTEM. I CHANGED THE BATTERY AND I ASKED HOW TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENINING AGAIN, THERE WAS NO GOOD ANSWERS. BMW ONLY ADVICED TO REPLACED THE BATTERY AND TOLD ME THAT IT SHOULD BE FINE FOR FEW YEARS NOW, BUT THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW THE LIFE OF A BATTERY AND THIS PARTICULAR CASE DID NOT PROVIDED ME ANY BATTERY INDICATOR AS THE BATTERY WAS NOT FULLY DEAD. ACCORDING TO BMW, "IT PROVIDED ENOUGH CHARGE FOR THE BASIC FUNCTIONS BUT NOT FOR THE SAFETY FEATURES SUCH AS DSC". I WAS LUCKY BUT THIS IS NOT SAFE, I AM NOT THE FIRST ONE WITH THIS ISSUE, AND THIS DOES NOT HAVE A WAY TO MAINTAIN OR PREVENT SAFELY.

THE CARS SCREENS DIM TO A POINT WHERE YOU CANT SEE THE SCREENS CLEARLY SPECIFICALLY DURING THE DAY WHEN YOU DRIVE THRU A AREA WITH TREES OR SHADE. THE CAR SCREENS DIM EVEN WHEN IN REVERSE AND YOU COULD POSSIBLY HIT A PERSON , ANIMAL, AND OR A CAR. THEN WHEN YOU GO IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT ITS BACK TO NORMAL. AT NIGHT ITS ALL DIMMED EVEN ON THE STRONGEST LIGHT SETTINGS WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING ON THE ROAD THE STREET LIGHTS AND STOP LIGHTS ARE BRIGHT NOWADAYS BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT YOUR EXTREMELY DIMMED SCREENS YOUR EYES CANT FOCUS AND IT CAUSES YOU TO LOSE CONTROL AND POSSIBLY CRASH AND HURT AND OR KILL A PERSON OR YOURSELF!! THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED ASAP! PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING ON BMW FORUMS AND BMW IS AWARE BUT DOES NOTHING!!!!!

ON MAY 03, 2019, I BOUGHT A 2019 BMW X4 M40I, AT BRAMAN MOTORCARS. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST BMW, WE HAVE 3 MORE BMWS AT HOME. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS BMW X4 VEHICLE HAS NOT PERFORMED WELL AS EXPECTED! ON MAY 27, 2020 I WAS DRIVING WHILE IT WAS RAINING WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED AND NEVER TURNED ON AGAIN, IT WAS COMPLETELY USELESS AND VERY DISSATISFYING. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED AND DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE I SENT THE CAR TO BRAMAN BMW SERVICE CENTER TO CHECK IT OUT AND REQUEST THE WARRANTY AND THEY SAID THAT THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER IT THE SOLUTION IS JUST TO PAY MORE THAN $30,000.00 IN REPAIR PLUS PARKING FEES. ALSO, MY INSURANCE CARRIER SAID MY POLICY DOES NOT COVER MECHANICAL ISSUES. ALSE SENT A LETTER ASKING FOR HELP TO BMW CEO AND THEY RESPONDED THAT THE WARRANTY DO NOT COVER " OUTSIDE INFLUENCES". SO THIS GRABAGES CAR CANT BE IN A RAIN. SO NOW I HAVE MORE THAN 1 AND HALF MONTHS WITHOUT THE CAR, ALSO CALLED BMW FINANCIAL SERVICES FOR HELP AND THE SOLUTION WAS THAT I CAN RETURN THE CAR SIGNING A VOLUNTARY REPO DAMAGING MY CREDIT HISTORY. ATTACHED TO THIS EMAIL YOU WILL FIND COPIES OF THE DENIAL OF THE WARRANTY AND THE ESTIMATE THAT BRAMAN BMW SENT ME, TO REPAIR THE CAR, WHICH BY THE WAY IS ABSURD! ON JUNE 21, 2020, ON A CITY STREET. MY WHITE BMW WAS TRAVELING WESTWARD AND A BLACK BMW WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND. THE BLACK BMW RAN ITS RED LIGHT TO MY GREEN LIGHT. WHEN WE COLLIDED IN THE INTERSECTION THE COMPLETE FRONT END OF MY WHITE BMW IMPACTED THE BLACK BMW DRIVER'S SIDE, FROM APPROXIMATELY FROM THE FRONT TIRE, TO JUST INTO ITS REAR DOOR. THAT IMPACT CAUSED THE BLACK BMW'S SIDE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY, AND EITHER AT THE SAME TIME OR UPON A SUBSEQUENT COLLISION WITH A BOLLARD, ITS FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED ALSO. TO MY SHOCK AND DISMAY, NON OF THE AIRBAGS IN MY WHITE BMW DEPLOYED,. ALL AIRBAGS ARE STILL IN THEIR RESPECTIVE STORAGE COMPARTMENTS. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE HIGHLIGHTED SEVERAL OTHER STANDARD SAFETY FEATURES OF THE CAR THAT DID NOT PERFORM ITS DESIGNATED FUNCTION EITHER. I WOULD LIKE YOU TO INVESTIGATE WHY THESE SYSTEMS FAILED ME.
