EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The headlight projectors (not the bulbs) clouded and dimmed the lights over time, to the point where it became unsafe to drive at night, and I had to replace the headlight assemblies with new ones. Putting brighter bulbs in the headlight assemblies did not help. There is no warning indicator for this failure, and there is no exact date of the "incident." In fact, it occurred gradually over time, and at first I thought it was my eyes and night driving. My dealer, Criswell Acura of Annapolis MD during a phone call has acknowledged and confirmed this problem with several model year RDX's, and referred me to the national Acura customer service, who said there was nothing that they would do. I have seen in several online forums that this is a common problem among 2013-2016 RDX's.. I recently replaced the headlights with aftermarket replacements at a cost of about $1,000 installed, which was about half the price of OEM replacement parts, before installation. I kept the old, defective OEM headlights, and have them available for inspection.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING
Our 2015 Acura RDX started experiencing diminished lighting on low beam around 75000. We are currently at about 95000 and lighting is nearly nonexistent. In order to see the road at night, the lights must be on high beam. I discussed this issue with my local Acura service center and they advised that the only fix is to replace the entire headlamp at a cost of about $800 per light. Our car is available for inspection at any time. The photos show the Acura in my garage next to my Hyundai. The Acura is on the right and Hyundai on left. Both have lights on low beam. The second photo is just of the Acura.

The contact owns a 2019 Acura RDX. The contact stated that while his vehicle was parked inside his garage, the rear tailgate window shattered. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,936. The consumer stated car was parked in the driveway under he surveillance camera.

Rear windshield combusted without external impact while parked. There was sharp pieces of glass inside my vehicle. Acura is aware via a service bulletin. It was inspected at Acura service. There were no symptoms for prior warning.

It is extremely difficult to see at night without having to use my bright lights. The low beams are useless and poses as a hazard to the driver and the driver of the approaching vehicles. I have replaced my headlights and I have purchased fog lights as an attempt to fix the problem but it still did not fix the problem. These additional costs were well over $500. EXTERIOR LIGHTING
The low beam headlights on both sides are too dim to drive on at night. I’ve had blubs replaced to the highest quality bulbs, but the issue is with the reflective coating on the headlight assembly. This was confirmed by the dealership. If a saftey inspector ever saw my car at night they’d never pass it. I have been pulled over by a cop telling me my lights are not on, but they were ( he let me go, I do not have documentation). The dealer recommended complete replacement of both light assemblies. Dim lighting first appeared around 50k but has gotten progressively worse. The dealer report and quote attached was at 76k. Their determination and quote for new lights is on page 6. My concern is that even with full assemblies replacement, the replacements will result in bad light. Other posts only show where people have replaced the assemblies only to find the same bad lighting. I have no problem spending the money if I knew it would fix the issue. The assemblies themselves seem built or designed defective. I’m at a loss for what to do.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? My rear windshield shattered on its own. My car was parked at work, which is a secure compound that is monitored 24/7 by security guards and cameras. I filed an incident report with security and they reviewed camera footage and didn't find any suspicious activity. I later discovered the incident is a known issue with a 2019-2022 Acura RDX (see Acura's Service Bulletin 22-014 version 2). The security guards took photos of the damage and I eventually replaced the rear windshield the next morning due to safety concerns and heavy rain. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? A rear windshield shattering on its own is dangerous to be around because of the flying glass fragments, especially if it happens while driving. It also impairs visibility to the rear of the vehicle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, it has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. Only my employer's security guards inspected the vehicle and camera footage. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there were no warning signs at all. The rear windshield didn't have any cracks or anything. I've only had my car for a few months so there's no wear and tear.

From what I have learned, the halogen low beam bulbs deteriorated the reflectors to the point it was noticeable around 60,000 miles and lights are now too dim to drive the vehicle since about 80,000 miles. Full headlight housing replacement is required to remedy the problem. I was driving in the rain on a dark highway when I was unable to see the roadway and had to travel with my high beams with oncoming traffic. The dealership confirmed the degraded reflector problem. There were no warning lamps or messages related to the dim lights. It sounds like an identical problem to the Acura 2014-2015 RLX which was recalled.

Woke up on 2/11/2023 and my whole rear window was shattered into a million pieces. No signs of anything thrown at or hitting it. Filed insurance claim to replace window but still have glass stuck in between frame and plastic because they can not remove plastics. They are welded to the body of vehicle. No warning signs or alerts. Luckily I was parked in my driveway and not driving when this occured. Had I been driving I probably would have caused an accident.

Once again, 3 weeks after the first time it happened, my 2019 ACURA RDX lost ALL power and I had to drift to the side of the road. This occurred on the Baldwin Beach Express and luckily there is not a lot of traffic this time of year so I could get on the shoulder. Car would not restart, all lights around the speedometer had come on. I had to have it towed to the Acura dealership in Mobile where it was towed the first time when this happened. At that time the told me they could not duplicate the problem. Three weeks later it has happened again . The tow truck driver tried to start the car and said " you're not getting any fuel" and asked if the fuel pump had been checked. Supposedly it has been replaced when it was first recalled. Could it be another faulty fuel pump? My question....how dangerous would this be if this happened in the I-10 Mobile tunnel?????? The first time it happened I tried to call Acura but the complaint department is not open on Sundays. This time it happened on a Friday and I was able to file my complaint. Will I get a response to this event now that it has happened a second time?

low beams so bad you cant see 10 feet ahead; in fact, the low beams from a car behind me will brighten the road in front of me more so. i replaced both bulbs, twice. Acura says this is over $1000 to replace both light assemblies. Other cars cant see me and i cant see other cars, or pedestrians! Progessively works since 2018

When I am stopped the vehicle routinely lurches as I touch the gas. I’ve complained to the dealer about it and they can’t reproduce the problem. It does lurch for my husband also. It hasn’t caused any injuries or damage, so far.
