What's Being Addressed

Kia America, Inc. is initiating a Voluntary Emissions Service Campaign, identified as SC285, to address an issue with the VECI label on certain 2023 Kia Sportage vehicles. An incorrect VECI label was inadvertently installed during the production of these vehicles.

This campaign affects approximately 915 Kia Sportage vehicles manufactured between July 10, 2023, and July 19, 2023. These vehicles were produced at a Kia assembly plant located in the U.S.

The Remedy: New VECI Label Application

To resolve the incorrect Kia Sportage VECI label issue, Kia will be providing a new VECI label along with detailed instructions for its application. Owners will receive these materials with their notification letter.

Owners have the option to apply the new label themselves by following the provided instructions. Alternatively, if an owner prefers, they can contact a servicing Kia dealer to schedule an appointment for the label to be applied by a technician.

What Owners Should Know

Kia has confirmed that there are no restrictions on an owner's eligibility for this service campaign. All affected owners are encouraged to participate to ensure their vehicle's compliance.

Cost: Owners will NOT incur any cost for this service campaign. The replacement of the Kia Sportage VECI label will be performed free of charge.

Notification: Kia will notify owners of the affected vehicles by first-class mail, with notifications scheduled to be sent out on January 18, 2024.

Repair Time: If you choose to have a dealer apply the label, the time required for the repair can vary. This depends on the dealer's current work schedule, so scheduling an appointment in advance is recommended.
