2019-2024 Jeep/Ram Headlamp Condensation TSB 23-004-24

Some owners of 2019-2024 Jeep and Ram vehicles may notice a light layer of condensation or fogging inside their exterior headlamp lenses. This condition, often referred to as Jeep Ram headlamp condensation, is addressed by Stellantis TSB 23-004-24 REV. A.

This bulletin, which supersedes the previous TSB 23-004-24 issued on January 17, 2024, provides guidance for technicians to evaluate and resolve headlamp condensation issues.

Symptoms

Owners may report that their vehicle's exterior headlamp assemblies are fogged with a light layer of condensation on the inside of the lenses. This Jeep Ram headlamp condensation can appear after the headlamps have been on and then rapidly cooled by cold water, such as rain or a car wash. It can also occur under specific atmospheric conditions, like a warm, humid day followed by a clear, cool night.

Diagnosis / Trigger Conditions

Technicians are advised to evaluate headlamps exhibiting condensation or fogging by following a specific procedure. First, all water must be dried from the outside surface of the headlamp lens. Then, the vehicle's outside lamps should be operated for 20 minutes by starting the engine, turning on the headlamps, and activating the hazard warning flashers.

This process helps determine if the condensation is normal or indicative of a sealing problem. Normal Jeep Ram headlamp condensation will usually clear as atmospheric conditions change, allowing the moisture to vaporize. Turning the headlamps on can accelerate this process.

Important Warnings

Stellantis provides clear guidance on when headlamp replacement is necessary:

• If the condensation or fogging begins to clear from the headlamp lens after 20 minutes with the lamps operating, this indicates that the lamp sealing has not been breached, and the headlamp does NOT need to be replaced.
• Conversely, if a headlamp exhibits internal moisture permanently, or if large amounts of water droplets are visible on most internal surfaces, it suggests a problem with the headlamp sealing. In such cases, a headlamp that exhibits internal moisture permanently should be replaced.

Fault Codes / OEM Fault Labels

When diagnosing headlamp issues, technicians are instructed to record specific failure codes based on the identified cause:

• Damage: If breakage on the headlamp housing (e.g., cracks, holes) allows moisture to enter, the Failure Code must be recorded as "11/BROKEN OR CRACKED".
• Missing or Damaged Sealing Components: If missing vent caps, access caps, or bulb sockets allow moisture to enter, or if these components are incorrectly installed, the Failure Code must be recorded as "1C / CONNECTOR LOOSE NOT ATTACHED".
• No Obvious Cause: If no obvious causes are observed but the headlamp still requires replacement due to persistent moisture, technicians should proceed using failure code 65 for leaks.

Repair Procedure Summary

The TSB outlines a diagnostic process to determine the root cause of Jeep Ram headlamp condensation. If the 20-minute lamp operation test clears the condensation, no repair is needed. However, if the condensation persists or if there are visible water droplets, a sealing issue is indicated.

For headlamps with sealing problems, technicians must identify the specific cause: damage to the housing, missing sealing components (vent caps, access caps, bulb sockets), or incorrectly installed sealing components. If these issues are found, the headlamp is replaced. If no obvious cause is found but the headlamp still exhibits permanent moisture, it should also be replaced using failure code 65.
