Symptoms

Owners of certain 2024 Hyundai Tucson (NX4) vehicles may notice a Hyundai Tucson coolant leak originating from the Integrated Thermal Management (ITM) Module Oil Cooler Fitting O-Ring. This leak indicates a potential issue with the O-ring's seal, leading to a loss of engine coolant.

Diagnosis

Hyundai TSB 24-01-010H details a specific inspection procedure to identify affected vehicles. Technicians will use a borescope to locate and inspect the LOT number on the side of the ITM Module. The presence of a Hyundai Tucson coolant leak is confirmed if the LOT number falls within a specific range. If the LOT number is one of the following, the O-Ring requires replacement:

  • 230911
  • 230912
  • 230913
  • 230914
  • 230915
  • 230916
  • 230917
  • 230918
  • 230919
  • 230920
  • 230921
  • 230922
  • 230923
  • 230924
  • 230925

For all other LOT numbers, replacement is not necessary, and the inspection is considered complete.

Repair Procedure Summary

If the inspection confirms the need for replacement, the repair involves several steps outlined in TSB 24-01-010H. The process begins with connecting a VCI-II tool to the vehicle's diagnostic link connector (DLC) and using a borescope to take pictures of the ITM LOT code. Technicians must ensure the tablet and borescope are sufficiently charged before starting.

Next, the engine cover is removed, and the ITM Module is carefully removed. The coolant is drained into a clean container for potential reuse. The old Oil Cooler Fitting and O-Ring are then removed. A new O-Ring is lubricated with coolant and installed onto the Oil Cooler Fitting, which is then reinstalled onto the ITM Module with a tightening torque of 3.0 lb-ft (24.0 lb-in or 4.0 N.m).

The ITM Module is reinstalled, ensuring that the Water Inlet O-Ring and ITM Rubber Gasket from the supplied kit are also replaced. The ITM Module is tightened to 8.0 lb-ft (95 lb-in or 10.8 N.m). After re-connecting ITM connectors, technicians must ensure no coolant or foreign objects remain. Finally, the engine coolant is refilled, and the engine is started to check for leaks. The coolant level is adjusted to the FULL line, and the ITM Coolant Filling Mode procedure must be followed to prevent air pockets and engine overheating.

Required Tools or Parts

To address the Hyundai Tucson coolant leak, the following parts and special tools are required:

  • ITM Oil Cooler O-Ring Kit: Part Number 25699-2S690QQH. This kit includes:
    • Oil Cooler Fitting Pipe O-Ring (Qty 1)
    • Water Inlet O-Ring (Qty 1)
    • ITM Rubber Gasket (Qty 1)
  • Pink Coolant: Part Number 00232-19098. Approximately ¼ gallon will be used.
  • GIT Borescope: Part Number G0DKDNN039. This is an essential tool for inspection.

Warranty claims for this service campaign use operation codes 30D142R4 for ITM LOT Inspection (0.3 M/H) and 30D142R5 for ITM LOT Inspection and Oil Cooler Fitting O-Ring Replacement (1.5 M/H).

Important Warnings

Hyundai emphasizes several critical points for this service campaign (TSB 24-01-010H):

  • Dealers must perform this service campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair.
  • Dealers should access the "Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open campaigns.
  • If a part is found to need replacement while performing this campaign and the affected part is still under warranty, a separate claim should be submitted. If out of warranty, a Prior Approval request for goodwill consideration is needed.
  • The incident parts are subject to callback through the normal Warranty Technical Center (WTC) parts return process. Claim is subject to debit if the part is not returned.
  • Do not touch any system buttons while performing the S/W Management function for ITM Coolant Filling Mode.
  • Be sure to follow the ITM Coolant Filling Mode procedure. Failure to do so may result in air pockets and overheating of the engine.

Owner Action

If you own a 2024 Hyundai Tucson (NX4) manufactured between September 19, 2023, and October 9, 2023, and suspect a Hyundai Tucson coolant leak, it is recommended to contact your authorized Hyundai dealer. They can check for open campaigns related to your vehicle's VIN and perform the necessary inspection and repair as outlined in TSB 24-01-010H.
