2021-2024 Audi Camera Inoperative or Blurry TSB

Symptoms

Owners of affected 2021-2024 Audi vehicles may experience the following issues with their overhead view cameras:

• "One of the overhead view cameras is inoperative."
• "One of the overhead view cameras is fogged up."

Fault Codes / DTCs

When an overhead view camera issue occurs, one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) may be stored in the J1121 control module for driver assist systems (address word 00A5):

Additionally, DTC B200FFA (internal malfunction) with symptom code 282648 or 282649 may be present.

Important Warning

Audi explicitly states that replacing the control module for driver assistance systems (J1121) for the above-mentioned DTCs is not an effective solution and will not resolve the issue.

Diagnosis and Repair Procedure

This Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 2055188/5) outlines a multi-scenario diagnostic and repair process for the Audi e-tron camera inoperative problem and related issues:

Scenario 1: One DTC logged for a single overhead view camera

1. Perform a bus sleep cycle on the vehicle to reinitialize the control module and cameras.
2. If the DTC persists, inspect the wiring harness connecting the J1121 control module to the affected overhead view camera (R243, R244, R245, or R246). Check for loose or unplugged connectors, pushed-back pins, corrosion, or damage.
3. If no visual cause is found, technicians should swap the affected camera with a new one to rule out a faulty camera.
4. Alternatively, the video cable of another camera can be plugged into the port of the affected camera on the J1121 control module to check for a faulty video cable. The connector housing of the video cable must be removed for this step.

Scenario 2: Several DTCs stored for the overhead view cameras If multiple DTCs are logged, indicating a partial or complete failure of the Topview camera system, proceed with the diagnostic steps outlined in Scenario 1 to identify and repair the defect.

Scenario 3: Blurry camera picture If the overhead view camera picture is blurry, the adapter wiring harness to the camera and the fogged-up overhead view camera should be replaced.

Note: A bus sleep cycle is required between each step of the checks to reinitialize the control module and cameras.

• Connector housing for front area camera (Part Number: 4L0035576K)
