ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
I have been trying to get access to this recall and Volkswagen is not helping. The local dealer did not have the capability but also would not arrange for it's shipment to the closest facility with the ability. It is electric and there are inadequate chargers to take it long distances for this recall, plus it would interfere with taking care of my work and family. The facility in Chattanooga I have contacted multiple times but they never call me back to schedule the fix. I made an online appointment several hours away in Nashville since weeks have gone by without word from Chattanooga, but doubt the car will be able to make it that far if there are ANY traffic issues getting there.

WHEELS
The front right tires at around 5k miles both have significant deterioration like I've never seen. It is not simply worn, but rather chunks of tread are missing from the tires. I am concerned that the tires will fail and cause an accident for myself and anyone else on the street. The dealership simply says this is how it is with Electric Vehicles. I am told not to worry about it and they will last, but I will attach some photos of the front tire as well as the rear, which is normal. Supposedly, this is not an alignment issue and is just an issue with EVs in general because of their weight? It is causing great concern for traveling on the freeway at high speeds.

In April, 2023 I took my 2021 VW ID4 in for a recall service. At that time they discovered issues with the car’s high voltage battery. This has led to a continual vehicle warning that my electrical system is not functioning properly and needs service. I was also told that the estimated range of the car is undependable, making trips of any distance impossible. I have had two service repairs scheduled, both canceled. The dealer now tells me that whatever is necessary for the repair has been back ordered to December. This means that my car will not have been fully functioning for eight months.VW continues to build ID4s but cannot keep those already sold in good repair.

While driving my foot will regularly get lodged/wedged below a piece of plastic trim adjacent to the accelerator. This delays or sometimes prevents me from easily letting up on the accelerator. While it can be dislodged with a little effort it requires me to completely reorient my foot. This is especially noticeable during "one pedal driving" where your foot does not need to be moved to the brake to decelerate. It does cause a delay in deceleration if only momentarily but requires effort and is at the very least distracting. Or in the worst case scenario it could delay deceleration long enough to cause an incident. The plastic trim protrudes about 1/4". The trim sits over a "carpeted" liner. This liner has no solid backing and can be pushed in and away from the accelerator leaving an even larger "lip" to overcome. This may not happen with all drivers but certainly with drivers that have larger feet or hold their feet in certain positions. Normal "single pedal driving" requires only very small adjustments in foot position. I believe this should be looked into.

SW lockup, leading to malfunction of speedometer display (infrequent updates, roughly once per minute). Cleared by manual reset of central display system. Tuesday July 25. I-5 between Yreka CA to Ashland OR Starting about 3:50pm in Yreka, outside temp roughly 100 degrees Stopped to charge a Electrify America Station at Yreka Walmart, 30 minutes, starting at 16% change, ending at 68%. Initial rate of charge was 78KW. Came to a stop, Park button, stepped out of car. (AC shut down per standard as I stepped out of car. Attached HVDC charging, started to charge. Stepped back into car an attempted to turn on AC. Just started attempting to start car expecting that it would complain about charging in process. Dont recall the exact process, but did end up with AC active and Charging in process. Cancelled charging via button on charging station at 30 minutes (to avoid charging fees that started after 30 minutes) disconnected charging plug, got into car and activated high power drive system. center console showed showed main charging page. Dont recall seeing standard startup VW branding screen. Attempted to press ‘Climate’ button to turn AC back on, main screen, no response, screen stayed on ‘Charging’ screen. Press other buttons on center console, no response. Time on the display was stuck at 4:20pm. Put car into Reverse, drive (B) to get back onto freeway. Expected center console to deadman timeout, reset, it did not. did try about 5 second press and hold on the center console power button, guess I should have held longer. Drove for 15 miles to rest area along freeway. Center console stayed frozen, Steering wheel display did show speed and change of state of battery charge (charge/drain bars, battery current %, speedometer, etc) Center console stayed at 68% Speedometer locked up about 10 min later, cleared by manual reset 30 min later. into VW dealer/shop Sunnyvale CA 08-02-2023, NPF. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: DYNAMIC BRAKE SUPPORT/BRAKE ASSIST
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 S. The contact stated that while coming to a stop at 7MPH, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle accelerated. The contact then attempted to switch lanes but crashed into the vehicle in front at 20mph. The air bag did not deploy. There were no injuries reported. No police report was filed. The vehicle did not display any warning messages. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired as of yet. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200.

ID4 Pro Plus has a feature car surround area view—- this is essentially a camera system that provides multiple views while backing / driving forward that stopped functioning appropriately 19 days after purchased . VW Dealership in Greenville,SC reported software problem with update pending in May. Software Update in May did not resolve issue. Now, I’m told a hardware problem by same dealership with no part available in North America or Germany. No repair date provided. The issue is called error surround area view. Other ID4 Pro Plus are affected but this is not reported to consumer.0223

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING
I was slowly backing out of my garage. The car braked harshly and automatically. It was so hard, despite my slow speed, that I got whiplash in my neck. The automatic system probably falsely determined that I was about to hit something. The review view camera was clear. There were no obstacles. This is the fourth such incident, although I have never been injured until now. -Yes, the car is available for inspection. -I was injured: whiplash in my neck. -I have not yet reported the problem to anyone but NHTSA. -No, it hasn't been inspected. I haven't reported it to anyone else yet. -Before the event, the car was beeping warning me that I was close to hitting something. This is always the case as I back out of the garage.

I was driving down the interstate and the entirety of the electronic screens froze up. The data presented on the screens was frozen and all the touch buttons froze. With no access to any controls, in a downpour, I was unable to adjust the climate control, turn on the defrosters or have any idea how fast I was going. I proceeded to stop on the interstate, thinking I could shut the car off and restart it to reset the controls, but that did nothing except get me soaked and risk my life being stopped on the side of the highway. This car has a seat activated power on and off so it comes on when you sit down and shuts off when you get up (which is a stupid idea anyway) but upon exiting the car and even locking it with the FOB, the vehicle would not shut off or reset. Soaked, I got back in and continued down the highway with no defrosters or climate control and arrived at my meeting. I was unable to shut the car off so it ran through my lunch then I made the same journey back home, 100+ miles down the interstate with no speedometer, climate control or defrosters. Once I arrived home, I disconnected the battery which did reset the system and displays. I suppose I better carry tools with me to be able to disconnect the battery on the interstate, next time. This is disgusting to me, that VW would not provide some kind of reset option in a very dangerous situation like this. During my event, I called both their “roadside assistance” and customer service, WITH NO BLUE TOOTH, and neither of them were able to help me in any way, except tell me to pull over and have it towed.

AIR BAGS
In July 2023, the airbag light came on in the dash of the vehicle. Upon inspection by the VW dealer, Sheppard Motors, the dealership indicated that the airbag module failed. They said the repair part was back ordered and were not sure when it will be available. I asked them does this mean the airbag system will not work in an accident? They said yes. I suggested pulling an airbag module from one of the cars in their inventory and using it to repair the car. They said no. They left us drive the car away with the airbag light still on. I researched on the internet finding a airbag module for the car. I informed them of the research and website. They said they called the other VW dealer but the part was not available even though the part was showing as available on the website. I believe driving a vehicle without a functioning airbag system is very dangerous. I don't understand why the manufacture does not have parts available for a new car. I think the safety board needs to investigate this parts availability problem and airbag module failure. How can the vehicle have such a great safety rating if the airbag system does not work?
