Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2025 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles. The vehicles may fail to make sufficient pedestrian warning sounds when in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 141, "Minimum Sound Requirements for Hybrid and Electric Vehicles."
Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid and 2023-2025 Corolla Hybrid vehicles. A software error in the skid control electronic control unit (ECU) may result in a loss of power brake assist when turning a corner.

Component: Multimedia display and connected-services software. Since September 2024, a pop-up has appeared on the center screen about every 7-10 minutes while driving: “Enter 6-digit PIN,” with “Reset PIN?” and a grayed-out “Submit” button. I have never set or used a PIN. The vehicle is available for inspection. Safety risk: The pop-up takes over the screen and hides navigation while the vehicle is moving. It occurs with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which points to the vehicle’s software rather than the phone. To clear it, the driver must look away from the road, tap X, then tap the CarPlay icon to restore navigation. On a 30-minute drive, that is three interruptions and six screen taps. The prompt cannot be permanently dismissed, so the distraction repeats for as long as the vehicle is driven. This is a distracted driving hazard created by the vehicle’s own software. Cause: A Toyota dealer said the prompt is tied to a free connected-services trial that expired 3 months into ownership, which matches when it began. I never paid for or renewed a subscription. An expired trial should not generate a recurring prompt on a driver’s screen while the vehicle is in motion. Confirmed and inspected: A Toyota dealership confirmed this is a known issue. Three Toyota dealerships reviewed the vehicle between fall 2024 and 2025. One confirmed the software was current. None provided a fix. Toyota customer support could only help set a PIN, which does not stop the prompt. A workaround posted by other owners online stopped it for less than three months. I have an open case with Toyota corporate. Request: Other owners report the same problem online. I ask NHTSA to evaluate whether this affects other Toyota vehicles with the same multimedia system and whether a software remedy should be required.

Vehicle: 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid, 13565 miles, [XXX] Recall: Toyota 26TA08 / NHTSA 26V203 Component: Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) / pedestrian warning sound I am reporting a problem that I noticed following completion of Toyota safety recall 26TA08 on my 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid. The recall repair was performed by Toyota dealer , Larry Miller Toyota, Murray UT, XXX, and involved the software update for the vehicle's pedestrian warning sound when operating in reverse. Oil and filter also serviced. Two days after the recall repair the rear power hatch (which has never malfunctioned) would not open. The motor ran to unlock but did not raise the door. Opened the door manually and it worked fine closing. Tried again to open and just sound of door unlocking but did not raise door. The master power switch for the door was checked and was on. Resetting the default height for the door to open did not help. The 12 V battery was disconnected for 60 minutes. Reconnected the battery and powered up. The door now worked fine and of note the clock was reset to 12:00. So guessing the computer restarted. If the update is known to have created any other issues please let me know. Curious if the recall instructs the dealer to restart the computer?? I would like NHTSA to document this complaint and determine whether other owners have reported similar changes following the 26TA08 software update. The vehicle runs fine so I have not notified Toyota. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The AC condenser on my 2024 Toyota Corolla Cross suffered a premature failure due to a critical vehicle design flaw. The lower bumper grille features exceptionally wide gaps placed very low to the ground, leaving the delicate aluminum condenser completely unprotected from routine, foreseeable highway debris. Because the climate control system regulates internal dehumidification, this premature failure directly compromises the vehicle's windshield defrosting and defogging capabilities. During temperature changes and damp conditions, the vehicle is unable to adequately clear the inside glass, severely impairing driver visibility and creating an immediate operating hazard on the road.
