When stopping at a traffic light, suddenly the engine shut off by itself and showed message saying: "Engine Stopped. Steering Power Low.". I had to switch to park and pushed the start button manually to restart the engine. This is a safety issue! Note, it happened twice after only purchasing the brand new car for 2 days. Both happened on rainy day with wiper on.

Twice, at a stop, the engine turned itself off. The car dash alerted the engine turned itself off and the warning alert sounded. The car/ignition key had to be turned off, then on to restart the vehicle. The first incident we had about 50-60 miles on the car. Today’s incident we had about 1080 miles on the vehicle. Stopped at red light in the rain, windshield wipers and auto stop/start feature was active. Engine shuts off as normal, but did not restart when removing pressure from brakes as it should. Dash beeped and flashed "power steering low" engine light and power steering light come on. Steering wheel was very stiff, but I was able to coast through the light to the side of the road. I put the car in park and attempted a restart. I believe it was the second attempt before the car would restart.

I was driving my brand new 2023 Corolla Cross FWD L Trim on a highway when I stopped at a red light. I have the Stop/System enabled on my car to get better gas mileage, but suddenly the steering wheel locked and the car would not start again when the light turned green. The "Check Engine" light came on and the dashboard told me to "Press Firmly on Brake to Restart Engine". I did this multiple times with no success. The dashboard also said that my "Steering Power was Low". I had to turn the car on and off again with my key in order to get it to work. Luckily, there was not much traffic when I was out, but this was an incredibly dangerous situation. It was also raining outside. I have only had my car for two weeks and it has 180 miles on it at this point. This is the first time it has happened for me, but I have seen a concerning number of people report the same problem for this car.

Hi there. Problems occurred in first month from my car purchase. problems are: 1. Engine shutting off while I am stopping at red light. happened two times. 2. blind spot monitor works intermittently. almost get in a deadly accident assuming they are working. 3. automatic breaks failed to work or not working as they are supposed to.

This car is experiencing the same issues of the engine shut off malfunction from the 2022 Corolla Cross model. I just got this car and it’s been happening where while i’m stopped at a intersection, the malfunction happens, tells me that something is wrong with the steering fluid, i have to put the car in park, turn off the entire car, turn it back on, and it works. This is has been a huge concern for us drivers and is extremely unsafe while driving. Many commented how it might be a bad battery cell from toyota, but this needs to get fixed ASAP!

VISIBILITY/WIPER
There is no rear windshield wiper blade. Visibility is basically zero out of the back window unless it is sunny. It is extremely dangerous never being able to see out your rear window. If any rain, sleet, snow, mud, dirt, deicer gets on my rear window it is impossible to see. There is no reason why a brand new 2023 crossover vehicle does not have a rear windshield wiper, it is incredibly dangerous and accidents will be caused due to this. This is a safety feature I didn't even realize I needed until after I bought the vehicle and went to clean off the back window and realized it was impossible to do while driving.

I was driving during the snow storm, my front sensor stopped working because it was covered in snow. That warning popped up on my dash screen and the warning light was on, after about half hour, the front collision warning light also turned on. I had not been able to stop to clean the sensor. I stopped about an hour after the original warning light came on, my start/ stop battery charge came on the dash, and then I got a dash warning that said "steering power low" and "engine stopped" and then "press brake peddle firmly to restart engine" I attempted to start it by pushing down on the brake, that did not work. I had to shift into park, turn the key off and turn the key back on for the engine to restart.

on 2/28/23, approximatley 7:00PM Pacific Time, I was stopped at a red light at the intersection of East Robles Ave and Santa Rosa Ave for. When the light turned green, i took my foot off the brake pedal, and the engine died, the steering wheel locked up. My check engine light came on along with the steering wheel dash icon. a message flashed on the dash - "Engine Stopped Steering Power Low" It took multiple attempts to restart the car. after the third attempt of putting the car into park, and pressing the power button, the car finally started and i a was able to drive home. At the time my car had appointmently 185 miles on it. It is currently back a the dealership (Freeman Toyota) in Santa Rosa, but they have had 0 luck recreating the issue. It seems like other 2023 Corolla Cross owners have had this issue... While at the red light the car cut completely off. The steering wheel locked and wouldn’t restart. The engine light came on and it said “power steering low”. I had just left the dealership. The car only had 21 miles on it. Traffic had to go around me and it was very scary being stuck not able to move.

This is a new Corolla cross 2023 FWD car just bought one month only. It keeps stalling out during stop at traffic light on the road, the dashboard showed “Ignition on”, “Steering power low”, “engine check signal”, warning beeps and then the car was locked. This happened 5 times within 2 weeks. This is a safety issue. First time (01/28/2023) getting towed car back to Toyota dealership, the technician quality checked and no code was found. They just changed the battery and gave back to me. However, 3 days later, vehicle’s engine was stopped and same situation happened again. Now the vehicle sent back to dealership again and wait for further investigation. This is a repeat problem!! Safety issue!!

This is the second time I am reporting this issues. This time I got a video of it. On Feb 2, I was, again, at a red light and a buzzing alarm started going off with the error showing as “Engine Stopped. Steering Power Low.” Then it would flicker to show “Engine Stopped. Press brake firmly to restart.” At the top it said “Ignition On”. When it does this I can’t drive the vehicle. I have to put it in park and then restart the vehicle from the start/stop button.

I have been experiencing an issue with the auto stop/start function that kicks in when you brake. It's inconsistent, but sometimes when I am at an intersection or waiting to turn out onto a road it malfunctions. Initially it works as intended and turns off my engine when I brake. Then if I remain stopped for a bit, instead of restarting the engine I hear an alarm sound and the dash screen says "Engine Stopped. Press Brake Firmly to Restart" and shows the Check Engine light and the Low Power Steering warning lights - then actually states "Engine Stopped" and "Steering Power Low". When I press the brake firmly - all the way to the floor in fact, nothing happens. I have to throw my car into park and restart it. This is worrisome when I am at a busy intersection or waiting to pull out onto a road. Nobody wants their car dying on them when they are trying to work with the flow of traffic. The issue seems to happen typically at times where I have not been driving very long and am doing in-town driving with stops. I caught it on video once and it was about 2.5 minutes into my drive. If I leave the auto stop/start on, it will continue to do this at stops - so it's not just once per drive. Furthermore, the feature is not one that you can have "off" by default. I cannot find any setting to have it not turn on when the car starts - I have to turn it off using the button near the gear shift. If I am driving for a long time, it will turn itself back on. It's unnerving to have a feature that is malfunctioning that you can't turn off completely, that turns itself back on. I drive my car daily and purchased on 12/31/2022, so the battery and systems should be functioning. I have experienced this on: 1/8/2023 1/13/2023 1/17/2023 (caught on video) Took to shop 1/14/23, they could not replicate. Took back 1/26/23 with video, they could not replicate. No solution found. I was stopped at a light and the check engine light came on, warning sounds and low steering power light flashed. Car would not move. I was able to put the car in park and turn off and back on and was able to proceed. Dealer found no error codes or defects when I took it to the dealership. They are keeping it for more diagnostics.

I was pulling up to a stoplight and the EPS electrical power steering light came on and warning of power loss to steering wheel, low engine power and auto start stop indicator light was also illuminated. I put the car in park turned the car off and back on and then the system reset and I was able to drive normally. This is a brand new car that I purchased Monday (2 days ago)

I think it’s the start/stop system or battery that gave me issue. I stopped at a red light and triggered auto-stop and waited for the red light for quite a while. Suddenly the car beeped and the screen popped with a message ‘Engine Stopped. Steering Power low. Press Brake firmly to Restart’. I panicked and tried as it suggested, but it didn’t work. Then I put the gear in Park and pressed the button to turn off the car, and then restarted as usual, it worked. This problem showed up for the first time 8 days after I bought it. Additional information includes that today was the first time I added gas since I bought it, and added to full fuel. The gas was from Shell. It was in the afternoon and sunny. It rained from 4pm when I used the car later and to 8pm when I used the car again. The issue occurred around 8pm. If the car suddenly dies when I drive on the highway, it’ll put my and people in car in danger for sure. I’m planning to get my battery checked tomorrow in O’Reilly and contact my dealership on Monday.

I was parked at a red light. After maybe 30 seconds of my foot on the break an error message came up saying "Ignition on: power steering low, press brake firmly to restart." The message was flashing and with all the commotion I didn't get to see what the rest of the message read. There was also a buzzer sound going off for the entire duration. The car engine was off, the steering locked, and pressing the break did nothing. I had to shift to P and then restart the car. [What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request?] Yes, my car will be available for inspection. [How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk?] The light turned green and I was in the middle lane. I had no way of pulling over. [Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center?] No, I will be taking it to the dealer ASAP. [Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others?] No. [Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear?] No, there were no messages or any indication that there was an issue.

I had stopped at a red like like normal and when I attempted to release the brake to move forward, the engine turned off and displayed a warning sign on the dashboard "engine steering low". I was driving on the furthest left lane of two and because there were other cars behind me I continued to attempt to restart the vehicle by shifting to park and then pressing the ignition auto start until finally on the third try the engine turned on and I could drive on. I pulled over a parking lot but I could not get the the problem to repeat itself. This car had the "Start & Stop system" activated when this issue occurred, and it happened at odometer mile 104. I had a different Toyota model with this feature and it was not once a problem.
