- #11478110August 8, 2022FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
After filling fuel tank to full, cranking the ignition, shifting into drive, and beginning propulsion, the engine will occasionally stall. This requires me to stop, shift into park, and restart and rev the engine to prevent it from happening again, which it sometimes does. This malfunction often takes place in high-traffic areas such as intersections or onramps to the freeway.

It started acting up Feb 1, 2020 not long after I bought it (Nov 8 2019). It would work, then it wouldn't. It is a hazard to drive because it stalls out or chugs along at a snail's pace until you can pull off the road to shut it down and restart it hoping it accelerates. It is still an issue (Aug 2022). I have not been able to drive it for 2 years even though I am still paying on it because it is just not safe for myself or others on the road. It is a hazard all the way around. I keep checking for recalls, but the sites say there are none. However, finally there may be a ray of hope in solving this awful mess. I just got an email last week from CarComplaints.com about this same issue. It listed the 2016 Jeep Patriot as having that issue and being recalled. The Manufactured dates listed there are May 9, 2016 to July 15, 2016. My door sticker says build date 7-16 MDH 071000 486AA. How do I get this looked at and fixed under the recall? I have NOT driven it since August 26, 2020. It is now Aug 7, 2022. I am still paying on this and can't drive it because it is unsafe to travel anywhere chugging along and being a hazard.

- #11476448July 29, 2022ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, ENGINE, FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
While driving in heavy traffic, there was a Red light and attempted to slow the vehicle. The engine started to jerk forward and the RPMs were increasing without my foot on the accelerator! My foot was on the brake! I was able to turn into a gas station to get to a safer place to park the vehicle. While attempting to park in a parking space the vehicle continued to accelerate by itself, again my foot was applied to the brake pedal. I was literally fighting to stop the vehicle and almost ran into the barrier where customers were walking. Once turning off the vehicle and restarting the engine, it was operating correctly while I’m reverse. I then shifted into drive, and the vehicle lunged forward and the engine accelerated by itself. It drove up to 45 miles per hour without my foot on the accelerator and foot resting on the brake pedal. A complete stop was a fight, as soon as there was any brake pedal release the engine lunged forward.

My subframe cracked in half which caused my tire to blow out on the highway. It almost caused me to crash into the gardrail and potentially other cars. My jeep has 110k miles on it and now it’s not safe to drive.

The passenger headrest with the active restraint system popped open yesterday 7/27/22. This vehicle has not been in any accidents or any reason for it to open. When investigating, the plastic piece that holds the latch was broken. The safety concern is if it happens on the driver side while the driver is actually driving the car, it can cause injury to the driver as well as potential for car accidents to happen.

- #11476365July 28, 2022SERVICE BRAKES
ON JUN 1 2022, MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON , THEN THE BRAKES CAME ON WITHOUT ME APPLYING THEM SEVERAL TIMES, I CALLED THE DEALER SAWYER MOTORS ,AND THE SERVICE MANAGER. SAID THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE WITH THIS MODEL TO OTHER CUSTOMERS. I AM A CERTIFIED MECHANIC ALSO SO I PULLED THE FUSES FOR THE ABS SYSTEM SO THE BRAKES WILL NOT COME ON WITHOUT ME APPLYING THEM . THAT STOPPED THE PROBLEM BUT NOW I HAVE NO CRUIZE CONTROL, SPEEDOMETER, OR BACK UP LIGHTS. I CHECKED THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL BEARING HUB AND THE SPEED SENSOR HAD COME OUT OF A WEAK POORLY DESIGNED THIN HOLDING CLAMP ON THE REAR WHEEL HUB. MOST CARS HAVE A MORE SECURE WAY OF HOLDING THIS SENSOR TO THE REAR HUB NOT A THIN SHEET METAL CLIP WHICH RUSTS Away and the sensor just falls out....! causing all these problems and the safety issue.. NOW THE WhOLE HUB HAS TO BE REPLACED AT SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS COST.

I took Jeep 2011with only 77,000 miles on it in for new brakes and was told that the REAR SUB FRAME and CROSS MEMBER BAR are completely RUSTED OUT and that it needs to be replaced. according to my own online research this seems to be a VERY COMMON PROBLEM with Jeeps. Perhaps this warrants a recall. Thank you.

While traveling at approximately 45 mph the engine light came on my jeep decreased on speed and it wouldn’t go any faster than 30 mph. The engine started shaking/jerking then the engine light flashed on and off very quickly. Was able to Pull to the side of the road car completely stalled out just as I put it in park. This incident also occurred 2 weeks after having the catalytic converter replaced due to emissions recall and it was jerking. I had to have emit towed

My rear subframe is completely rusted through. It is available for inspection. It has been confirmed by an independent service center. Warranties were issued to 2007 owners or 10 years old. 3 years ago I noticed a squeek in the trunk. Was told it was struts so I had them replaced. Now the vehicle knocks and squeaks so bad it has to sit until I can afford to replace subframe.

The subframe and rear cross members are extremely rusted and corroded, resulting in the vehicle being unsafe to drive. While there appears to be a ten year extended warranty covering the repair of this problem, apparently not every 2012 Jeep Patriot qualifies for extended warranty which only applies vehicles manufactured at only certain locations. According to FCA customer care the extended warranty does not attach my VIN number, although the rust and corrosion problem is identical to the damage repaired for other Jeep Patriots.
