Problem 1: I made a right turn at a red light. As I turned my power steering light turned on and my steering wheel locked up and I lost control of the vehicle. After stopping and turning off the vehicle, I restarted it. At this point I was able to regain control of the car. A few days later the same thing happened again as I made a right turn from a parking lot into the flow of traffic. One again I stopped the engine and restarted the car, then I regained control of the car. Problem 2 (May be related): My passenger side headlight was replaced a year ago. Recently the light went out again. I took the car in to a mechanic to repair it. It was repaired so I thought. Two days later the light went out again. The mechanic believes their may be an electrical issue. Problem 3 (May be related): My driver side brake light was replaced about a year ago as well. It has now gone out again. I have had my vehicle serviced twice by a Hyundai dealership at least twice since the first incident.

Antifreeze is coming out of the exhaust. Heater is only blowing cold air. Repair shop said it is a common problem with the Hyundai hybrids. Was told I had to take it back to the dealership. The y repair shop said this is very common and is wondering why a recall has not been issued by the NTHSB. Dealership has been unresponsive.

The car has been having problems with oil consumption. The problem became known in 2022, but the dealer/service department (Frank Hyundai, National City, CA 91950) did not take care of the issue and did not care about safety. The dealer told me, "Your car is OK." On 7/3/2023, the engine light came on. A second round of oil consumption tests began along with a 90,000-mile service, including replacements of filter assy and gasket, four new tires and front and rear brakes, spark plugs, suspension/steering repair, shaft assy, engine repair, cooling system service, and fuel induction service. Shortly after, the car slows down even when my foot is on the accelerator. It feels as though the vehicle will stop. I can see the rpm gauge erratically going up and down. The car lurches or jerks. I reported the jerky problem to the dealer at the second 1000-mi oil consumption test, but the dealer did not make any diagnostic tests or repairs because, per the dealer, "it did not jerk while we test-drove it." The problem continues.

In winter of 2018, my husband and I purchased a certified pre-owned 2017 Hyundai Sonata, and from the moment we drove it off the lot, it had an oil consumption problem. Then, in 2023, the spark plugs began failing. Each time this happens, the whole car shakes and stops running. We found out that Hyundai and Kia engines from 2009-2022 have major problems and that there are many class-action lawsuits against the manufacturer. We contacted both the dealer and Hyundai corporate to find out how we could fix the engine. We have small children and just wanted to repair our family car. The dealer refuses to fix it. They told us that it's Hyundai's problem. Hyundai acknowledged that we are eligible for a new engine but that until a certain rod fails and the whole engine implodes, they can't do anything about it. We have this in an email from corporate. We recently welcomed a new baby and had to buy another car because we felt this Sonata was not a safe choice to drive our children around. The solution to this problem should not be driving around in an unsafe car until it completely stops working. I'm hoping that the NHTSA can help me by sending out an inspector who can attest that this is a safety issue.

STEERING
The power steering has failed to work on multiple occasions and I’m worried that it may happen during a tight manuver and possibly cause a wreck. This is very dangerous. When this power steering stops working it is way harder to turn than a car with no power at all.

My 2011 Hyundai sonata Engine failed in April 2023. Was towed and the engine was replaced due to the recall. Got car back November 4th 2023. Fuel gauge never went out and after driving about 3 miles the engine light came on. Dec 13th was driving on highway and felt like the car was going to fall apart. Able to get off highway only for the car to die. Every light including some I have never seen came on. Was stuck on the side of the road with my ESA dog in 28°. Temp. For over an hour with no power and hazards starting to dim. I'm disabled and had no help. Local PD towed vehicle and drove me home. Car sat at tow yard collecting fees as I was waiting for the dealership to call me back. Finally got help with paying the tow yard company only to be stuck once again for over an hour in the cold and then denied a tow to the dealership since they decided to cancel my appointment by text while I was on with Hyundai roadside assistance. They denied any help. Luckily the tow yard felt bad and made a call for me and a friend came and paid the 160.00 tow truck to get the car back to my house. They have now not returned my calls and the case manager has not responded as well. This is unacceptable. I don't have any money and I have no idea how they can get away with treating a disabled person in the winter days before Christmas by letting me be stranded twice on the side of the road with an engine that has less than 10 miles on it.

The contact stated that while operating the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to immediately stop, causing the stopping distance to be extended. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V651000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

We were heading to Lakewood NJ from Bucks County (North of Philly) . Car trouble w/ hybrid system on Rt 1, just past I-95. Got off @ Fairless Hills & took back roads. We could only go 20-30 mph. IDK how many times I pulled over. Several lights on, including "Check hybrid system. Turn Engine off", engine light, low tire pressure, battery & 3 other unidentifiable lights. I turned around to try to make it home, as 2 years ago, I had a similar issue, which turned out to be the hybrid water pump failed. We finally stopped near a park & called AAA & towed to dealer. Prior to driving, we had no fluid on our driveway. My last synthetic oil change was April 19, 2023 @ 49,097mile. I now have about 57,000 miles. Today, dealer said no oil in the car & oil pan was all wet. They claim the oil filer was loose. Why would it take 8 months to loosen to lose oil? After adding oil & taking for test drive, they said the engine seized & would need to be replaced. Not under warranty. Add to complaint - the remaining dashboard lights where checked and non of them was for the oil pressure. If I lost enough oil for the engine to seize I would expect a low oil pressure light to come. The dealer informed me on Dec 26, 2023 that when doing the diagnostic, the oil pressure light came on for them. The photos attached to the case does not show the oil pressure light on.

I noticed a clicking noise when pressing and releasing the brake pedal that had not been there before. I started hearing that sound 3-5 days ago. After driving to pick up food I noticed smoke coming from the engine area then the car burst into flames. The fire depress called a they put out the fire.

My engine is burning through oil and also smoking while driving and has a burn smell coming through air vent. I scheduled to have it repaired and have a screenshot of the recall but when I took it to get repaired they stated there are no recalls on my vehicle and I would have to pay. I then called Hyundai customer service and was told they see the recall in one system but not the other and that they will give me a call back. I then never received a call back so I called again and was told that they cannot fix the engine recall and that I would need to get a diagnostic and pay for it myself.

My dash board has deep cracks that go all the way through dash board. A lady I work with has exact make and model as me and has same issue. Open research this seems to be a wide spread problem with these specific models and can cause electrical and air bag issues.
