- #11545136September 18, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, POWER TRAIN
Car is losing go power when accelerating on to interstate. It’s like the transmission loses power, the d illuminates, and then it kicks in to drive. It puts us at risk for an accident and I had a semi almost hit me because of this. This has been reproduced at the mechanic shop as well. No warnings before this happens

I was driving while it was raining. The wipers stopped working. The driverside wiper jumped partially off the windshield. I had my mechanic inspect it. The fuses, relay, and wiper motor are operational. The bushing on the wiper transmission failed. I found the following recall. Special Coverage Adjustment N192266181 Wiper Transmission Arm Linkage Failure – USA Only Release Date: July 2022. However, my VIN does not have this as an applicable recall.

- #11544808September 15, 2023SERVICE BRAKES
Driving down the freeway and all of a sudden got a service break assist notification and without warning I was unable to stop the vehicle. I was able to coast my way off the freeway and upon my exit I tried to pull into an empty parking lot but there was a fire fence I ended up crashing into which is probably what brought the vehicle to a complete stop. This is very dangerous and I have read numerous complaints from other 2020 terrain owners who have experienced the same problem. Mechanic stated I need need vacuum pump for brake booster which of course my warranty doesn’t cover. Something seriously needs to be done about this. My accident could have been a lot worse

My vehicle put itself in park in the middle of an intersection while waiting to make a left turn in the middle of rush hour traffic. The car could not even be placed in neutral to be pushed out of the way of oncoming traffic. Narrowly avoided a collision.

GMC 2029 Terrain Our car broke down three times after a new engine was put in. After one week it had to be towed again to put in a third new engine. It has been fixed since Aug. 1st but GMC has yet to reunite us with the car 2000 miles away. We’ve made car and insurance payments for almost three months with no vehicle in our possession. It was under warranty. No loaner or rental car has been issued to us. Nobody calls us back. Terrible customer service by GMC.

2017 GMC Terrain motors consume oil at an excessive rate (1 quart per 1,000 miles). Getting an oil change every 5,000 miles, even consistently, puts the engine at risk for major internal failure and safety risks to the passengers. My engine in my 2017 GMC Terrain has a broken timing chain and internal damage due to the excessive oil consumption issue. The engine will have to be replaced. GM has known about this issue for years. GM is in several lawsuits for this issue, but GM has failed to recall the parts of the motor that are excessively consuming oil. They refuse to help cover repair costs even though the costs are due to their poorly designed motor.

- #11542866September 6, 2023FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING, SERVICE BRAKES
On 9/3/23 I was travelling down interstate 94 in Illinois when all of a sudden my check engine light came on. Not knowing what the issue was, but knowing that the car still seemed to be OK and I was only a few miles from home I decided to drive home and figure out the issue from there. At this point I had no idea that the brakes had completely locked up. Once I realized what was happening I did my best to slow the vehicle down by decelerating, frantically pumping on the locked up brakes, and then finally slowing enough to take an exit and roll in to a gas station. Frankly, it was the most terrifying moment of my life travelling 70 MPH without the ability to stop. Upon inspection, the independent service tech informed us that the vacuum pump had exploded (yes, exploded) and that he had never seen anything like it, especially in a car with less than 70,000 miles. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The vacuum pump failed and unfortunately it completely exploded so there were only a few pieces left inside of the engine. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My brakes locked up completely on the interstate, with my family in the car, and I was unable to stop. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The independent service center where I currently have the vehicle has confirmed, and spoken with GM. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, GMC refuses to do anything about it even though there is a prior recall for the same part on other GMC vehicles during the same time frame. I'm told it's the exact same part. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes, roughly 1 minute prior to the breaks locking up the "check engine" light came on.

- #11543018September 6, 2023FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE
The contact owns a 2021 GMC Terrain. The contact stated upon pressing the Push to Start button, the vehicle failed to start after several attempts, and the battery drained. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the vehicle restarted after a while. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred intermittently. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while at a complete stop at a traffic light. The contact also stated that the vehicle stalled while driving on two separate occasions. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. On one occasion, the vehicle restarted after several attempts and was driven to the dealer; however, on the other occasion, the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle but could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V013000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,000.

- #11542629September 5, 2023FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL
The contact owns a 2018 GMC Terrain. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle decelerated and failed to accelerate over 25 MPH while the accelerator pedal was depressed. The contact stated that a message was displayed on the instrument panel to “Continuously Drive Vehicle Above 30 MPH”. The contact stated that after the vehicle decelerated into engine power mode, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) failed and needed to be replaced. Additionally, the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice where it was diagnosed that the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) needed to be unclogged. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed to contact the warranty company, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,696.

My lift gate has been failing since i bought it used from a local dealership. It's closed down on my mom's leg when she was situating luggage that she'd put in. It has tried closing on myself as well each time i opened it(4×) & when I tried to stop it by pushing up on it, it only forces itself down not up. This is very dangerous & had an old recall from GM motors due to the struts in the lift gate was faulty & made by stabilize whom had numerous lawsuits from other manufacturers due to injuries & deaths. The dealership refuses to fix it for free even though they knew the issue with it cause it was brought to their attention by their detail guy whom had it close on him as well. This a is major issue that needs addressed asap. And not at the expense of the owners but the manufacturers & dealerships that knowingly sell these autos that can be dangerous.

Engine started sputtering, then vehicle was shifting hard and occasionally jerking forward while braking/at a complete stop. Check engine light came on. Found there was no oil left. Was less than 3000 miles since prior oil change. Dealer service sticker stated oil change was not due until 5000 miles (synthetic). Oil light never came on. After refilling oil, check engine light turned off and vehicle started operating normally. Discovered many others with problems with this vehicle consuming oil. Luckily, we caught it before engine failure, but obviously worried that this could happen at any time.
